People say PRS is the midpoint between a Gibson and a Fender, but a Gretsch is the real midpoint of thick but sparkly sound. I own 4 lefty Gretsch- a brown Country Gent 2, a racing green Jet, an Oxblood Bo Diddley all from Japan and a Korean Blue G4020T. They are really fun guitars, especially in a world where lefty choice is limited.

I play a Duesenberg Starplayer TV. It’s also a perfect midpoint between a Strat and a Les Paul. It has a really awesome pickup configuration of a Humbucker bridge and a P90 at the neck. I’ve had this guitar for about a year and a half, and absolutely LOVE it!!!

I was a Gretsch nut from 2002, until 2017. Country Clubs were my thing. I love hollowbodies, and don't let people set you wrong, you can rock VERY HEAVY on a FilterTron or Dynasonic loaded Gretsch - you just need to know how to set up your amp (oh yeah, and quit trying to make it sound like a Gibson or a Fender).
Why did I quit playing Gretsches? - the thin necks! I play classical style, which means my thumb stays behind the neck (courtesy of a guitar playing suggesting from my uncle - Guitar Generation #2 who was made by grandpa [Guitar Generation #1 in the family], to take classical guitar lessons). While playing in classical style gives me an extended hand span on the neck (great for some chords, and lead guitar passages - as for being able to hang/hook my thumb over the neck for blooze bends, I've never been much of bender playing-wise), it makes thin necks uncomfortable. Unfortunately, Gretsches with chunkier necks (or at least a Medium C - .850" thick or more at the 1st Fret), are very few and far between. So after about 10 years of fighting thin necked Gretsches, I said good-bye to them.
I'd love to have another Gretsch hollowbody (and what would make things even better - for it to NOT HAVE A BIGSBY [I hardly ever use wiggle sticks, and Bigsbys are a pain to re-string]), but every time I try out Gretsches at my favorite local guitar shop (which happens to be a Gretsch dealer), they all have the same old thin U-shape necks. As it is, I can't afford a ProLine Gretsch nowadays. To make matters worse, the same guitar shop I just mentioned, recently got in a used 2005 Gretsch Country Club. Like an idiot, I played it, and as I thought, being a relatively early Fender era Gretsch, the neck is just chunky enough to keep my fretting hand happy. Oh, and to pour gas on the fire, I played the 2005 Country Club through a Mesa Boogie Mark V - great clean tones, and tones of glorious dirt tones! At $3000 used, I can forget about buying it. Oh well.

Amen to the Hallelujah!!!! I own three!!!
I grew up in the same neighborhood as Brian Setzer, we're the same age, and he's been doing his rockabilly thing since way back, and an inspiration and an absolute master as a player. ( You cant hide sloppy on a Gretsch!!)
When Gilmour sold off 120 guitars, and interviewer asked him, " Is there a guitar you wont sell? "
    David's response was, "....My 1958 Duojet. "
There are videos of David playing that Gretsch from the 80's all the way into the 2000's.
I've been a Gretsch player since the 70's. I own 3 Gretsch's right now. . 2 Anniversaries ( 6118T-LTV-125 in Jaguar Tan and 6118T-LTV-120 in Bamboo Yellow ) and 1 Duojet. (G6128T The Duojet is one of my all time favorite Guitars.)

I have one metallic purple. Love it. I gig with it all the time. I especially love it for rhythm work in a 2 guitar situation. So far the only upgrades I’ve done is replace the tuners with Graph Tech locking tuners. A must. They drop right in. I replaced the spring with a Squishy spring and I put a roller bridge in. Stays in tune pretty good. I’ll add some warble to the chords and rarely have to retune much in between songs.

I own two Gretsches and a G&L. My first Gretsch is a 5230FT, Electromatic Jet. I did some modding to it (changed the values of the pots and tone cap; replaced the bridge with a roller, added locking tuners, then did some cosmetic stuff. She’s my favourite guitar to this date, even after having (more or less) completely rebuilt my G&L, whose previous owner and rewired it into (basically), just a regular HSS Strat. But nothing touches the tone on my Jet.
My other Gretsch is a 2655-P90, which plays beautifully, though I’m not crazy about these particular P90s. Don’t get me wrong: they’re awesome for rhythm playing; however, they don’t have quite the sustain I’d prefer for playing lead, even when run into a compressor and boost pedal. Unfortunately, if I wanted to replace them-even with standard P90s-I think I’d have to further rout out the pickup cavities. However, I love my Jet so much that the deficiencies in my 2655 almost don’t matter. I can’t rave enough about Filter’Tron pickups. Even the bog-standard ‘blacktop’ Filter’Trons sound dead gorgeous. So many people, when they buy a Gretsch like mine, their first move is to upgrade the pickups. I feel absolutely zero desire to do so. I like them just as they are. I found that the tone I wanted didn’t require touching the pickups, but instead swapping out the pots. IiRC, I swapped out the 250k volume pots for 500ks,and I swapped out the 500K master volume for a 1M. I also cut a little of the brightness of the pickups by switching from a .047uf tone cap to a .033uf. Now she’s a little more gutsy and middy. If I need more brightness, that’s why I own a G&L.

That is a phenomenal guitar. The scale length is the same as my Les Paul. Pretty sweet...

That's one amazing looking guitar. And it sounds really good too, at least to my ears.

The Gretsch Duo Jet has been my go to for years now. For me the sweet spot has always been middle position (both pickups) balanced with the volume controls. Unless you wanna go full bridge, rip the rest of the guts out, and rock until damnation of course. 😉👍

Yes!!!!!! Just got one of their solid bodys and it's easily my favorite guitar. Better tones than I've gotten from anything else. Love it definitely has a different sound

Have a 5220 Electromatic Jet in Jade Grey. Absolutely fantastic. Dollar for dollar, one of the best values out there. Sounds and plays beautifully.

When I was young, having a Gretsch one day was my ambition. Now I am old and can afford one, I no longer need one. However, I do have an oddball LP copy with slightly disguised Filtertron copies, so the classic Gretsch sound is on my palette

I've heard so many opinions about newer Gretschs build quality and never found one in a local store so I've been hesitant to order one online but I love the look and sound. If Robert says it's okay I've got to give it a go.

My Gretsch Junior Jet is one of my favorite guitars to play. It has a p90 in the neck position.

I had to sell my heavy guitars because I became disabled with a bad back. I still play out but a nice six pounder would be beautiful.. That guitar sounds killer and you’re playing has gone up several notches.
