This is a fantastic tip, and probably one of the best wildlife art tips on RUclips. Thank you for sharing your insight Chuck! I can't wait to apply this to my work!
Absolutely beautiful work Chuck!!! I am an acrylic painter and you can achieve the same effect with Acrylic Glazing Medium. Again, Love your painting style and all of your videos.
How really beautiful. What a talent you have. I really love that wonderful glow that you achieved on your deer and grasses. Thank you for these tips. Will definitely try them.
thank you thank you!! i have been struggling with this--oil paint as a highlight enhancement--and see that i was using improper placement. now i have got it!! :)
Thanks for sharing these tips, you can see how much of a difference it makes to a painting. I am just getting in to oil painting and really enjoying the tips you share. thank you from Wales, UK.
Thank you SO, so much for those tips! Just today I was wondering how I could get a nice glowy effect. Much appreciated. I’m so glad I stumbled upon you/ your videos. You are an excellent artist. 👏
I am curious why you choose to use a black paint instead of Paynes Gray to darken your colors. My experience is that Paynes Gray darkens your colors without muddying them. Just curious. Love your work!
Love the question, thanks Tom. I've tried all methods of darkening my colors and it really comes down to what seems to be the easiest for me to get the best results. Of course that's different for everyone.. But I tend to work in a weird way of using black and then scumming or glazing lighter colors without black over the top to cloud out or remove the muddy look if there is one. I think the most important thing to have is self awareness for how you operate, and then figuring out the best way to make that work for you. So if paynes gray works the best for you, then without a doubt you should stick to that. For me, I just found a way that works best for my process and so I go all in on learning how to use that to the best of my abilities because I recognize that's where my strength lies.
Great video. Could you give a suggestion or do a video on how to make things look wet. I am painting the head of a seal coming out of the water and I want the head to look wet. Thanks for your reply. Cheers!
Hey bro I really inspired by your artwork and I want you to show me how to really improve on my highlight in my artwork and how to make my work look super realistic
Chuck Black hi Chuck..beautiful work, enjoy all you vids..have been watching you from your very First video. Your very motivating with the time and passion that you take on each piece. May I suggest having a look at Rosemary & Co for the liner brush..or riggers...excellent brushes last long and not expensive...fast delivery..great customer service...
Blick brand liner, I'm not sold on them yet though. My favorite liner was discontinued so I'm trying all sorts to find a new one that I really like. Haven't found it quite yet, but the blick is nice
hi sir. once youve added oils over acrylics how long do you have to wait for it to dry and do you put oil paintings behind glass in a frame. sorry but do you varnish once the painting is dry. thank you.
Thanks Paul, No I do not hang any originals behind glass unless they are on paper. The alkyd medium I use dries the paint in about 1-3 days on average. I do not prefer varnish so I use a layer of alkyd medium to paint over the top with a thin layer when finished. You could certainly use varnish and sometimes I do, but often I don't. It comes down to personal preference
Sorry about this "overcomenting", but since you handle highlights in such an amazing way I was wondering... Have you ever seen the work of Daniel Gerhartz? His way of representing light is really astonishing, and he is able to create almost an aura, or a halo effect in his paintings, since the light source is almost always somewhat behind the main subject. I've tried this myself and had so success, at least not with oils... but since I've only painted Alla Prima so far (l'm not an experienced artist, just an art student), maybe this requires other layers, I don't know. But hey, If you'd ever find yourself looking for and idea for your next video/lesson, pleeease, think about us, poor bastards, who love this freaking halo effect but cannot even begin to grasp the technique? 😊
HI! ONCE AGAIN EXCELLENT DEMONSTRATION, AT THE MOMENT I AM WORKING AN (NO NAME) ANIMAL, HE! HE! HE! THAT NEEDS THAT GLOW I WILL TRY IT..... THANKS A LOT ...
i love the way you highlight things. just be careful how much of that oil based painting you do. that is what killed Bob Ross and also causes auto-immune disorders as it builds up in our systems and stays with us for life. stick to latex based paints as much as possible.
Best video I've seen on glazing.

Wow!! That really draws the eye to your focal point the way you punched it up like that. Just a subtle punch at that.
Wow....excellent tips, what a difference it made to your painting!!!
I really enjoyed your explanation of adding a glow!
So higher saturation next to highlights, glow, and whiter highlights making higher contrast... All excellent tips, thank you sir :)

Fantastic!! :)
Excellent
Beautiful can I get the tutorial of this painting from very beginning
I do not have the beginning of this painting unfortunately. Thank you for asking I'll do more like it in the future
How do you decide what paints to use to paint your pictures? I always freak out when it comes to that part. I have no confidence!!
Does this technique work without medium? Let's say, if i use just simple oil to increase transparency will it work?

Amazing highlights do you use alkyd medium for acrylic painting all the time or only for the high light only
Whenever I use oils I use the alkyd :)
If you please can you give us the name of your fine liner brush which you used for painting the tiny branches ??
Blick brand liner, I'm not sold on them yet though. My favorite liner was discontinued so I'm trying all sorts to find a new one that I really like. Haven't found it quite yet, but the blick is nice
