I've found Sabaton to educate me more than the actual school system, they get me much more interested in historical events than a textbook ever has.
While doing it in style.
@@KikiCatMeow if only they were actually at a decent historic level. a lot of their stuff is OK historically but some of it is just plain half-knowledge. for instance their stance on Rommel. a lot of laymen these days glorify rommel and claim he wasnt a nazi and that he commited no war crimes and so on. historically, he used to be the head of hitlers personal protection corps before he even spent time on the world war 2 front. you dont get to that position if your ideology is in any way unclear to the leadership. also, he attacked before his tanks fully arrived in africa, got beaten and basically left africa himself before the actual loss of his main troops. he fled and let his men die, just to get a better personal record. not exactly a hero, huh?
and the german wehrmacht did take part in the holocaust. the "clean Wehrmacht" is nothing more than a myth.

to pro and cons of rotating. today we know of a phenomenon called "combat fatigue" that limits the usefullness of a soldier. Normal troops can have between 50 - 100 days of fighting before burning out which makes them almost useless to the army. After this they are so stressed out they usually suffer severe PTSD and other issues, disobey orders, get very cocky and bring everyone into danger. Elite troops can go up to 200 days before being useless. Now i want to state that is TOTAL number of active combat days, not in one go. No soldier should see actual combat for more than 100 days in his entire career (with some exceptions)
if you are under constant threat like verdun you burn out even quicker without pause, so the rotation system wasnt a bad idea.
Intelligence wise i dont see a big issue there as it was trench warfare and the basics could be covered in a briefing, its not like intelligence changed much during the fighting.
Du äcklar mig hur kan du säga så till soldater som slogs för sitt land och wad de trodde på
I know that you're talking about actual history, but this information caused me to think about the stories from the Halo franchise. There were many active combatants that saw not just 100 days of combat but years of combat. The Human-Covenant War lasted I think something like 25 years with untold trillions of people being exterminated by Covenant forces. I can't imagine what that would do to the human psyche if we were ever faced with a conflict on that scale in real life.
And this battle depicted in the song lasted 303days

They will praise you for all the good you do, but if you make one mistake, all that good washes away and you're forever known for that one mistake.
No that’s just your politicians
People who do not know the history think that France did not fight (or very little) in WW2, which is very very far from reality if we are interested in what really happened.
People prefer to get information through Hollywood movies films rather than history books, it's really sad.
The problem was largely that the highly trained British Expeditionary Force were being compared to French _conscripts,_ many of whom had barely any training. And worse, there were loads of Communists in the French forces who sabotaged military equipment (the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact was still in force during the Battle of France).
VIVE LA REVOLUTION! FRANCE IS BY FAR ONE OF THE BRAVEST COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD. THEY WERE NOT COWARDS! THEY WENT DOWN FIGHTING IN WW2, AND EVEN THERE WERE RESISTANCES EVERYWHERE. DON'T UNDERESTIMATE THE FRENCH.
React to Sabaton History, "No bullets fly", amazing story
I think the song that made the Swedish band Sabaton internationally famous was Carolus REX about the Swedish king Charles XII.
Sorry, but that's just wrong. They had their breakthrough with The Art of War and likely even earlier. Sabaton was well known before Carolus Rex. It's probably just the first record you've listened to.
@@NorthgateLP It was the first record I saw widely spread. But I know they have been around for a long while, but like year ago everyone and their mother made a reaction video to Carolus Rex.
Well that has more to do that reaction videos weren't really a thing before. They just popped up in the last 5-6 years and the internet in general got a huge boost by the popularity of facebook. Sabaton themselve were already very successfull before.
In sweden it spells like Karl XII to be more exact
I think they said there biggest song was To Hell and Back.
My father was a psychologist in a longterm care facility. One of the patients was a young man in WW1, blinded and scarred by mustard or chlorine gas. To this man, every day was the same day some 60 years earlier. He lived every day back in the trenches.

Saw one of my sons former teachers (hes 10) and he told her about all these videos and she's already impressed about how he's expanded his knowledge about the battles and the world was at that time. Hes developed quite a love of WW II aircraft and ships since then and it helps him to relax.

Already saw it mentioned several times here, but I have to throw my voice behind it all the same. "Price of a Mile". It has very powerful lyrics, and all in all is one of my favorite songs of theirs. Can't recommend it enough.
Sabaton had actually helped me on a history project that I had to do about the Ghost Division of WW2.
Ah yes more people are discovering this amazing band and it makes me happy 🤘🏻 love this band
I wonder if "You cannot pass" from LotR is in anyway inspired by "They shall not pass". JRR Tolkien fought in WWI.
It's highly likely as Tolkien fought in France in 1916.
Yes LotR was almost a mimic and reference to ww1 with the orcs as illigal immigrant symbol
Ma. Gina Aniñon do you have any sources on this orcs being symbolism for illegal immigrants bc all I can find from a quick google search is mentioning a spoof on senator bilbo made in 2002
Yeah i think the iconic phrase "you shall not pass" came from ww1, but if i remember correctly Tolkien fought in the battle of somme, wich the allied force won because german resources were being divided between somme and verdun, so its quite possible he heard in a report or something of the kind seeing that verdun had a subtle influence in the somme battle
Yes, it was. Tolkien specifically said so.
A great song to react to would be "The Last Battle".
Apart from it being a good song musically, the event it is about is a really fascinating and quite unique case where German Wehrmacht defectors, freed war prisoners, Austrian restistence members and American army troops fought against SS troops at castle Iter in Austria near the end of the Second World War. It's one of those stories about people preserving their humanity in a midst of madness that gives you back a bit of hope and faith in our race.
As for the band's aims... I havn't read or watched interviews, but judging by what events they choose for their songs, it seems to be a combination of celebrating praisworthy acts of heroism and keeping memory alive on events that should never be forgotten so that we'll never repeat the horrors of the past, like this song about Verdun.
Norbert Sattler There was actually an SS defector in that battle too... Yes, a fucking _SS_ defector.
By the way, the guy who was explaining the history behind the song was the host of what is pretty much the biggest ww1 documentary ever made. You can find it on the channel "The Great War" here on RUclips and basically it covered ww1 in real time, making videos about what happened each week exactly 100 years after those events happened. After they finished that, they started making fewer videos (I think they only make about 1 video every month) about what happened after the truce of November 1918, you should check it out if you want to know ww1 inside and out
they now have a new channel for ww2 weeklys.

You should absolutely check out The Great War channel, especially for World War 1 - they've covered it week by week exactly 100 years on (so 2014 to 2018 you would get one episode a week that would correspond to the equivalent week a hundred years ago). This is a dream made true! Loved your other videos, but I really wanted you to cover Sabaton. Of course, make sure to cover their other videos, and also the Great War channel.
You can find the pronunciation for ‘sabaton’ on most decent online dictionaries. The IPA spelling is roughly /ˈsæbəˌtɒn/ -it's a piece at the foot section of a suit of armour. It comes from the Provençal dialect of the Occitan language (in or around the 1300s), but having been incorporated into English for such a long time reflects that phonetically. For some reason, some erroneously over-correct the word with an attempt at a French-influenced pronunciation.
