I find your approach to film refreshing for youtube, most essayists praise the same movies over and over without real concern for cinema as art. Requiem for a dream and schindler's list are perfect examples of what I don't like about the popular "film cannon". The style and content of this video reminds me of the cinema cartography, but I think you explain things in a way that's more down to earth. I like it. Also, do you know the blog about film "Dennis Grunes"? Terrific film criticism.
@@EmanuelCastroChannel Thanks so much! Cinema Cartography has been a big inspiration for this channel, so that's a huge compliment 😁 I haven't heard of Dennis Grunes or his blog; do you have a link?
this is a really good vid that i can tell you put a lot of time and effort into. i unfortunately have no knowledge on cinematography/directors/the art of film making and thus fall victim to the schemes of modern cinema, bathing me with an overabundance of violent happy fun times. despite that, i would like to think that i will now remember the name robert bresson (for at least a month) thanks to you The Cinema Revivalist aka kristianator687
really great essay! good stuff.
Great comparison drawn to Haneke! He is truly Bressonian in many aspects, maybe best shown in Funny Games. Keep up the good work!

Suuuch good takes in this. Especially 9:03 and on. Great video
12:00 not to mention, Bresson's own direct depiction of violence in Lancelot du Lac rivals many slashers

I must ask, does this video spoil any of his films? I've only seen Mouchette (1967) so far
@@AbrasiousProductions a little bit, yes
@@thecinemarevivalist SHIT! I'll come back to this video after I've finished his entire filmography, thanks for letting me know👍
