Matt's work is underrated. His pictures still hold that heavy nostalgic photojournalistic look without being pretentious. Love how humble he is, real OG
Matt's astonishing photography has become an essential documentation of New York over the last 30+ years. It's so great to hear him talk about his work and his insights are fascinating.
The part where Matt said "all you really hope for is to be in the conversation" (10:23). That part hit home for me AND I think Matt should be in those conversations. Please don't sleep on the Harlem work you captured in the 80's I would love to see them.
@@lost422ever He just means artists want to be a name that comes up when people talk about a specific thing they're trying to be a part of - they don't want to be left out of a movement they're working within.
When you think these videos can't get any better... Matt going through his own book and talking about the photos has to be one of the most special moments in the series. At least it felt like that to me. Amazing work Paulie
Nothing better than Matt’s story … from cab-ing the streets of NYC to documenting NYC. Power to the old school NYC photographers & thanks Matt for all the magical images you created and shared! ✌️ from a fellow older (64 years) street photographer. THANKS Paulie 📸
I love the balance between talking to older folks and the energy of younger folks. Getting back into it and transitioning from feeling young to feeling old, it's nice to be reminded of that hunger for a good roll or hunting for a good shot. But I like the feeling some of the older photographers give where they've really stewed in this a bit.
Watching your walkie talkies especially with legends like Matt, Reuben, and Melissa has given me so much inspiration. As a young photographer it's the first time I've truly listened to the philosophy of photography, the importance of looking inwards to capture what's outward. Never stop making these videos.
to have a body of work brimming with life like matt’s is something to aspire to. thank you paulie for continuing to document other photographers and keeping true to the medium
This walkie talkie hit man. His stories and recounting of the photos were amazing. Not to mention the photos themselves. Matt has definitely cracked my personal top 5.
One of the highlights of my time at Pop Photo was the day Matt walked into our office with his portfolio of street photos, mostly from his cab. It blew us away. Matt's work continues to impress!
These walkie talkies are such a valuable resource for anyone pursuing photography. Very grateful that you are continuing to make these while sharing your own work as well. Cheers!
Brilliant conversation with such an amazing and experienced guy. Refreshing to see someone shooting with something other than a Leica, proves that if you know what you are doing, you can shoot with anything
Your work is absolutely mesmerizing! The way you capture real-life moments is so powerful and emotional. That photo of a mother and child with Tower 2 on fire in the background is incredibly moving. It's a reminder of the strength and resilience of humanity. And your photo of street fights captures the raw intensity of urban life. Thank you for sharing these breathtaking moments with us. Your work deserves to be celebrated.
Matt Weber will probably never get the recognition be deserves as a photographer but just hearing him him talk, and you can tell he adores and understands photography in a way very few people ever reach.
I really enjoyed Matt's candid and unburdened photographic style. His photos evoke nostalgia and honesty, and don't come across as over stylized. The honesty captured in those moments is very impactful. Thank you for this episode!
I'm not in the USA but I'm delighted to be following Matt on IG and more than happy to leave (yet another) comment praising this inspirational series 🔥🔥🔥
The best SP series in the interwebs! Probably the only one of its kind, so because of it we get to know more photographers worthy of getting highlighted.
Always get really happy when a walkie talkie is released. I tend to enjoy the older population of photographers the most who have really seen the streets change.
I also have be shooting (on and off) since the mid 80’s but in the last five years when I discovered street photography, it hooked me! The streets are now my therapy.
Man...another great video, really love this series for uncovering and introducing me to photographers who I unfortunately hadn't heard of yet. Matt's work is incredible!
I grew up in NyC in the 80’s and it was a dangerous but magical place. It had character and wasn’t as generic as it is today. I appreciate photographers like Matt who captured an era that will never be replicated again. I definitely would love to get to know his work even more now after seeing this. Great work once again Paulie! Thanks for making the greats of street photography more accessible to everyone.
I loved this walkie talkie because of how real Matt is about photography and the ups and downs. Not to mention his photos are great too. The Marine in front of the shop vs the woman in the park on 9/11 I think really show his ability and skill to both see as well as witness.
Incredible photos! I can't wait to look back at 30 years of my photography, I've definitely seen growth, but to see someone doing it since the 60s is nuts. The dude has so many historical moments from the 80s on
Wow! You don't get to hear from many people who have been photographing for so long, really cool to see his perspective on things. His philosophy definitely helps to take a lot of pressure off going out every day
I just wanted to say Thank You. As a beginner i watch your videos and learn so much that it would take me decades to do without them. Keep doing your thing, you inspire others and thats a powerful thing.
legitimately, these videos are what pushed me to finally buy a camera and start taking photos of my town. it's nothing top of the line, and the lenses aren't anything special, but any time i go through the sd card at the end of the month and find like, one good picture, i feel glad i did it. thank you for making these, and thank you to matt for sharing his years of experience
Mahalo for these videos, Paulie! Being from Hawaii, it gets a little difficult at times to have this mindset that Matt talks about where you never know what will happen, but having a camera and being ready to snap if something does happen, makes all the difference and you can capture something that may never happen again. It’s easy to make the excuse that I’ve lived here my whole life so I’ve seen everything, and not just wait for an opportunity to be in NY to get out on the streets. Matt’s diverse body of work that spans decades is truly inspiring. Thanks again for these videos man! They’ve truly been giving the photography community some gems!! Aloha 🤙🏽📸
Listening to these veteran photographers is always interesting. They've seen the craft go in all sorts of directions, and their work/mission has remained the same.
Amazing story! I love the fact that Matt has been documenting the city for so many years in spite of the brief layoff. He's preserved so much history in his pictures.
Walkie Talkie simply does not miss. That's the truly amazing thing about photography, or art in general. So many different people and perspectives, almost everyone is refreshing in their own way. Thanks again Paulie!
It's tough to tell that you are shooting history when it's contemporary at the time you shoot it. Matt's body of work documents NYC in such a wonderful way. If only we could all be so fortunate to capture a place and time and also the feeling and zeitgeist at that time.
This is one of my favorite Walkie Talkies so far. Always exciting to find new art and artists on this channel and Matt’s work is amazing. Keep up the great work!
Hey there. I discovered ur channel a couple months ago and am still working my way throughout your catalogue. I want to tell you that I think this Walkie-talkie with Matt was by far the best of all the videos I have viewed on ur channel. Your audience was lucky in that, with Matt you found a subject-matter expert who was willing to share his craft with others. Thank you both.
Your walkie talkies are one of the greatest sources of inspiration for photography. Especially to a newcomer to street photography like me. Matt’s work is fantastic. Thanks for bringing him to my attention like so many other great photographers!
These walkie talkie videos always give me such a great perspective on street photography that I wouldn't have seen otherwise. I try to stay away from the options of general social media photographers so these always give me great insight and I love knowing I'm actually taking in something knowledgeable
I'm absolutely loving the perspective from older street photographers. Especially since they seem to have such different stories of how they got into photography. ❤
What a cool cat man. I really liked the wisdom he spread in this video, photos were phenomenal, your videos always inspire me to create art, not photos, art.
This series has provided a wealth of insight into this niche of photography that we all love, but above all, I appreciate how it's shaping up to be a valuable document of the people involved, and the relationship they have with their craft, which can be complicated. The photographers-who they are as people, and what they are drawn to shoot-can not be differentiated, and these videos come to a head when there's a clear confluence there. Matt's an exemplary street photographer, and a quintessential New Yorker-and those things go hand in hand.
Got to know Matts's work through the late Dave Beckerman, another wonderful street photographer. I Love Matt's work of chronicling NYC over the years, and I hope he continues to grow his audience.
Following the impulse to take the photo... that's the most important piece of advice in here. Getting lost in shooting and ceasing any thoughts to judge photos you haven't even taken yet is so important. Without fail, my favorite shots end up being the ones I barely even remember taking. So important to be present and not overthinking.
love your work, Matt. but more importantly, your perspective on photography and the pursuit of it. thanks Pauline for highlighting photographers from all ages, ethnicities, and styles.
always love these and finding new photographers with some crazy and iconic photos, happy to add Matt to the long list of people Paulie has shown me!
This is the winning comment for the book.
Hey Ernest, congrats, you won! What's your Instagram handle?
Matt's work is underrated. His pictures still hold that heavy nostalgic photojournalistic look without being pretentious. Love how humble he is, real OG
Honestly I’m upset I’m just now learning about him. I’m a professional photographer and I think this guys work might be my favorite
Matt undersells himself, a true legend of the street. The 911 photo is probably one of the most memorable shots of the past 30 years.
Matt's astonishing photography has become an essential documentation of New York over the last 30+ years. It's so great to hear him talk about his work and his insights are fascinating.
Without a doubt the most impactful video you have made.
The part where Matt said "all you really hope for is to be in the conversation" (10:23). That part hit home for me AND I think Matt should be in those conversations. Please don't sleep on the Harlem work you captured in the 80's I would love to see them.
Maybe I'm being dumb, but what does he mean by that? Cheers

THANKS Paulie 📸
Matt's book, 'Street Trip' is one of my all time favourite photography books, so to see him on here has been brilliant. Thank you.

I can't express how much these videos inspire me to get out and take more photos. Incredible work
The time and attention to the craft over time is an inspiration
Matt’s photos show history. Hopefully he’s able to do a photo book or something. All these photos in this video are great.
This guy has something very down to earth about him, yet so profound. Amazing photographer, too. Thanks for sharing.
As someone relatively new to street photography and learning about all the nyc photographers out there these videos have been my absolute favorites.
Matt is the real deal, one of the best photogs working the streets here.
to have a body of work brimming with life like matt’s is something to aspire to. thank you paulie for continuing to document other photographers and keeping true to the medium
This walkie talkie hit man. His stories and recounting of the photos were amazing. Not to mention the photos themselves. Matt has definitely cracked my personal top 5.
Matt has the most honest and pragmatic approach to street photography I’ve ever heard. Thanks Paulie for including him in your series.
One of my favorite street photographers. Thanks for this Paulie.
How devoted Mat is after all these years is inspirational
I enjoyed this, Matt is great.

Paulie is in the conversation for sure. These videos will be an archive for years, and generations of photographers to come.

A living legend. Loved his book with my boy Clay
I also have be shooting (on and off) since the mid 80’s but in the last five years when I discovered street photography, it hooked me! The streets are now my therapy.
THIS is why I'm a street photographer! Excellent upload from a humble guy!… That World Trade Centre shot! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWEEEE! 💗
Man...another great video, really love this series for uncovering and introducing me to photographers who I unfortunately hadn't heard of yet. Matt's work is incredible!
"Trying to make a photo that makes me feel good." - damn I really relate to that. Thank you for another incredible Walkie Talkie!
yeah, I like this guy. Series is very interesting as well, great idea.
This interview speaks to me on so many levels. The work is astonishing and his philosophy inspiring. Thank you for doing this interview!

the walkie talkies been on fire. what great captures from Matt.

Excellent episode. Matt Weber truly is a gifted photographer.
Best episode I've seen by far. You can see and feel that he's experienced and knows what a good photograph is, no fake shit, no BS.
The admiration i have for Matt is incredible. I've been following him for years and that book seems amazing!
This is my first time be introduced to Matt and his work. His motivation even at his age is crazy inspiring. Thanks as usual Paulie.
Matt is an inspiration. Keep walking, keep looking, keep photographing I like his simple approach.
Matt’s images are amazing! Everything I love about street photography!
Great to hear a real NYC guy on his method and long career. Another terrific feature Paulie.
This was one of the best walkie talkies i've seen yet wow
incredible body of work by matt. glad to have discovered him through you!

Such an incredible walkie talkie, Matt’s work speaks volumes and it’s a joy to get to know him a bit

Great Episode, that photo in his books of the lady in the park with her kid and stroller and building burning is amazing!
Can’t believe this is the first time I’m seeing Matt’s work. He’s incredible. Great video
So much wisdom in this one. Thank you both!

Haha he has clearly been waiting for a platform to speak. Hes a legend. And speaking truths here. great video
Your photos are right there with the classics. They are singularly yours. Excellent video that allowed you to be open to the viewers.
Enjoying Matts photography and commitment, a real inspiration.
Loved this interview
