I've listened to a ton of podcast driving to and from work everyday. After listening to so many I found myself wondering how you were developing. Great to hear you speak on your own behalf rather than being the conductor of the show. Zach does and awesome job though and I loved the flip flop having you on the other side of conversation. On my way to start part 2. As well thanks for creating all of this. It doesn't teach me how to trade but the wisdom and hindsight from others is invaluable.
Appreciate the point about podcasting, listening to these on RUclips while I work is nice but other medium like Soundcloud are great to have when away from the desk.
Aaron, you said you wanted more screen time and experience to become a profitable trader, doesn't making the switch to automation before you've actually learnt the market and become consistently profitable with your strategies of choice defeat the purpose? How can you automate what you don't know? And if they are purely mechanical strategies (such as when x ema crosses x ema you buy) then how does that help you as a trader? I believe purely mechanical strategies are good for teaching you things like emotionless execution etc but as far as skill, you need discretion. An automated trading system can't observe the market and add the layer of mental analysis that a human can.
I am also a web developer for many years and a little bit a graphics as well. After listening to you maybe I will visit learning python as well. Learning to build my own system would be pretty fascinating I think. I need to learn the market and trading better first. I'm deffinently inspired though so thank you. Not sure I would be what you call a "Quant" but having another weapon in my arsenal would be cool. I don't think I could ever put my full faith in "automation" per say even I built it. Hell, especially if I built it. lol.
Great Job!! Your podcasts are an inspiration to the modern day trader. Keep up the good work.. But I would like to know, How do u find the people that u are interviewing?
I'm Jewish and I'm telling you sometimes Zach's yiddishkite comes out and puts a smile on my face. It's nice to hear an actual chat instead of an interview. Having one of these every once in a while will add variety to the podcast and make it more relatable/light-hearted.
+Tammy Bryan, some charting software is better suited depending on what markets and products you trade. But you could take a look at technicianapp.com/ or get a demo account with thinkorswim.com/.
hm, they are just like everyone else.? That's very much a generalization. How can they just be like everyone when people have different education levels, belief systems and intelligence. Some just have an interest in this stuff, others don't.
Thanks Aaron and Zack for the wonderful podcast. loved the way you described the trader journey, and there is no distention, it is continued development.
If you want to find out if you have an edge use a binomial calculator. For example, you can take 20 trades, and say you have 14 winners (1:1 profit/stop ratio), if your system DIDN'T have an edge, the chance of having 14+ winners is 5.76%. So it looks likely that you do have an edge. Continue trading until 100 trades; assuming you have the same win/loss ratio (70 wins 30 losses), the odds of achieving that or better with NO edge is 0.003925%. So essential, congratulations, you have an edge!

A discretion system can be turn into an automated one.

Who is this guy you are talking about? Gand or Gant?
+Daniel Rizza - Hey Daniel, I made reference to William Gann (W D Gann).
hm, they are just like everyone else.? That's very much a generalization. How can they just be like everyone when people have different education levels, belief systems and intelligence. Some just have an interest in this stuff, others don't.
