Good reaction, thanks and welcome back!
"Metali" (metari) = "metal" + "Matsuri" (traditional Japanese festival). So it's a "matsuri" influenced song and it's all about hyping the crowd and inviting them to dance an sing along.
Very groovy and funky musically and I love Su-metal's clean yet aggressive vocals here. Really cool collaboration with Tom Morello.
And very happy for Momoko on her first song and music video as an official member and that kabuki (traditional Japanese theater) style interlude she does.

    _Wasshoi wasshoi!_
    _Wasshoi wasshoi!_
Hey guys, it's been a while, you didn't show up with more BM songs from the new album or in general, hope to see you around with more.
You weren't the first one with the West Side connection lol
We got another banger for Japanese festival or any festival around, they performed this recently at Houston starting The Babyklok Tour in the US as well in all the cities they've been around, hopefully they will do the same at Aftershock or Louder Than Life and get the crowd going nuts with this, unfortunately Blue Ridge Rock Festival was cancelled.
It's their first song released with this new BM reborn and formation.
The live debut was at Apocrypha - Another One exclusive show right before the track released, it was fun and totally unexpected, everyone was having a blast and even started with a Kami Band solo after a while without it.
The song title is Metali!! (metal + matsuri, which is a Japanese festival) and you can hear it in the spoken section when one of them (MomoMetal) is doing the Kabuki moves style.
Just so you know "wasshoi" is another shout used in Japanese festival when men are carrying the shrine, similar to sore and soya you can hear in Megitsune and Karate. The traditional Japanese instrument you can hear in the beginning is a shamizen, also used in Megitsune.
I can totally see why they pick Tom Morello on this, the groove, the catchiness, the super energetic jump and those typical 90's vibes at funk or alternative metal live concerts.
    Next suggestion:
    - Iine! official MV (is iine with the capital i and not Line)
Btw there's something wrong in your BM playlist last entry.👀
Thanks for sharing this and see you next time.🦊🤘🎸

Not Westside (you are not the first to think that ... all of them were American too🤔😁) - "Wasshoi! Wasshoi! Wasshoi! Wasshoi!“ Great reaction. The live performances of this have been completely wild and the crowds are going nuts! 🤘🤪🤘
This one is entirely Japanese - I don't remember if you've seen these, but if you want to hear them doing something Middle-Eastern (psy-trance metal) 'METALIZM' is the song - and if you want to hear them doing something Indian/Bollywood style you should listen to 'Shanti Shanti Shanti'.
This is Momometal's first official music video since she was revealed as the official new member in April and she even got her own solo part with the spoken kabuki theatre section.
The song title translates as 'Metali' (or 'Metari') which is a fusion of the words metal and matsuri (festival). The song is about a Metal Village holding a metal festival, so they have included all the matsuri shouts everybody would be calling out as encouragement to the people carrying heavy floats etc like "Sore, Sore", "Dokoisho" and "Wasshoi!".
They are inviting us all to dance - I am reliably informed there is something in the lyrics (Su sings it and it is in Momometal's kabuki section) about we are all idiots or fools - the idiots who watch and the idiots who dance ... so as we're all here and we're all idiots why just watch, we may as well all dance.
With regard to Tom Morello's contribution, this is what he said:
"I am a big fan of BABYMETAL, a band that is both power rocking and constantly surprising with dizzying musical twists and turns. I’ve been trying to work with them for some time and when they sent me the demo of METALI!! I knew I could rock that shit like crazy!"

This music and dance is used in traditional Japanese festivals, so to speak. Festivals with this atmosphere are held in tens of thousands of places throughout Japan. Especially this time of year, you can hear "wasshoi" and see festivals wherever you go in Japan.
In the middle of the song, MOMOMETAL spreads her hands and shouts "Metari!!", which is an imitation of Kabuki. Kabuki is a traditional dance and is like a Japanese opera.

Anyone who says it's more mature has never heard Megitsune or has no idea what are they talking about 😅
Metali while being a banger is less mature than Yava, Kagerou or Headbanger, anyone who says otherwise haven't heard Suzuka and the Kami Band performing Rondo Of Nightmare LOL

As many people are commenting: BabyMetal are back. For me, they have never been away but have explored many different styles. Although these may not all be to my taste, if they just released album after album with songs the same formula as Metali, the name of this song, it would soon get old.
Momoko Metal or just Momo Metal, does the speaking part in Metali. She is roughly saying: "A fool dances but someone watching them is also a fool. Be the fool and dance!"
As an Englishman, the only way I would drink any 'beer' from America, is if someone paid me to do so. After consuming even a half pint, I would take the money, drink some salt water and vomit the whole lot up!

Nice reaction! Hmmm I have to say tho, I just feel like maybe you guys could react more to the "old stuff" (because it's actually not gone since it's their signature genre: Kawaii Metal, I even disagree with some "fans" in this regard of "changing" to a mature sound signature because they did a lot of serious stuff in the past as well), before jumping into their most recent albums.
But a reversed pattern is interesting from Metal Galaxy and The Other One. Not saying you guys should do that but I just feel maybe you guys are too much ahead for someone that just started into BABYMETAL. I would suggest you guys to react to songs like Akatsuki Unfinished ver., Ijime,Dame,Zettai live at Sonisphere 2014, Rondo of Nightmare, Sis. Anger that could be considered their heaviest song etc there is a lot of heavy themes not only musically but lyrically as well that's why I always recommend lives with subtitles so you guys can just deactivate it if that feels distracting, but they worked on really heavy stuff considering their age. Just wanted to let you guys know, Kitsune up 🦊🤘🏼

Hell yea! Fun metal festival song getting everyone to dance and sing and enjoy themselves. You should absolutely check out live fan cams of this song being performed at their shows on the Babyklok US tour, they add in band solos + a pretty sick growl (Momo). Kabuki theater spoken parts done by Momoko (Momometal), who was officially made the 3rd member in April.
Wasshoi! Wasshoi! = encouraging shout, kinda like "Come on! Let's go!"
Also, good on you for trying local brews, and yea, not a fan of Pumpkin beers haha (but always open to try)

Gentlemen....SUMETAL AND BABYMETAL are going into the rock and roll hall of fame...mark my words....this band created the kawaii genre and held down better part of 2010 to 2020 by themselves keeping metalcore and power metal relevant in mainstream with main stream appeal.....these girls are no different than Nirvana and Pearl Jam And soundgarden starting grunge changing the course of rock music forever....these girls changed the course of death core and powermetal into the mainstream consciousness forever

    Nice reaction!!🏮
It was the same with megitsune, when a song has a lot of Japanese culture in it, it is difficult to explain. Read only if you are interested, as the content may be a little removed from the song itself.(I'm sure you have an idea of what you're getting at, but I'll write it down in a nutshell.)
It is quite impossible to translate the lyrics into English, so only the background and words are explained.
METALI is a word that adds METAL and 祭り(Matsuri=festival). And this song is a representation of a Japanese 夏祭り(Natsu Matsuri=summer festival). For us Japanese, these sound and lyrics get excited about a Matsuri. Matsuri is the heart of the Japanese people. It is said that there are a total of 300,000 festivals in Japan, both large and small. Matsuri means a ritual for worshiping Gods or Buddha, or an event held in gratitude towards nature. 神輿(Mikoshi=portable shrine) is a carriage for Gods. In the festival, Japanese people get around the Mikoshi and carry it on their shoulders in order to worship Gods. While carrying the Mikoshi, the carriers will yell "Wasshoi, Wasshoi" or "Soiya, Soiya" or "Sore, Sore".(However, the calls vary considerably from region to region.)
神輿(Mikoshi=portable shrine) and お囃子(Ohayashi=festival music) of Matsuri have a history of more than 1,000 years and are etched in the DNA of the Japanese people.
The Japanese instrument used in the song is 三味線(shamisen), a three-line string instrument. The shamisen's strings are played with a fan-shaped バチ(bachi=plectrum). The shamisen has been used in Japan since the 15th or 16th century. It appears to have originally come from China.
The funny-looking masks with their mouths agape are ひょっとこ(hyottoko). It has existed for roughly 500-600 years.
The masks were originally used in 神楽(kagura). Kagura is a dance dedicated to the gods. In the film Your Name, Mitsuki danced dressed as a 巫女(Miko=shrine maiden), which is also a type of Kagura.
The counterpart to the Hyottoko is a female mask called おかめ(Okame) or おたふく(Otafuku). Okame and Hyottoko masks are sold at Japanese 夏祭り(Natsu Matsuri=summer festivals). Masks have long been a familiar part of everyday life in Japan, and these are sometimes used in anime.
The Japanese consider foxes and cats to have strong spiritual powers and fear them. At the same time, foxes are enshrined in shrines as messengers of the gods.
The fan-shaped object held in the hand is called 扇子(Sensu). It is a tool to cool yourself by sending wind to you and can be folded into a stick shape.
Text on the Sensu is in 赤子金属, 赤子(akago) is baby, 金属(kinzoku) is metal.
ぴーひゃら(Pehyara) in the lyrics is the sound of a 篠笛(Shino bue=transverse flute) used at Matsuri.
どっこいしょ(Dokkoisho) is the voice used when lifting heavy objects. The choreography when saying "Dokkoisho" is the pose of carrying a heavy object(Mikoshi(portable shrine) at Matsuri(festival)) on the shoulder.
The choreography when saying わっしょい(Wasshoi) is a pose for carrying a Mikoshi(portable shrine).
It is called 合いの手(Ainote) or 掛け声(kakegoe), a call to be inserted between songs. 合いの手(Ainote) or 掛け声(kakegoe) can be Wasshoi, Dokkoisho, Sore, Soresore, Ha, Ho, Yo, Yoisho, etc. There is nothing set in stone, and during the live performance, it is OK as long as you shout words similar to those uttered by MOA&MOMO in the atmosphere.
This time, SU has adopted the Japanese 民謡(Minyou) and 演歌(Enka) singing style.
The lyrics "Odorin chai" and "Utain chai" are in the dialect of SU-METAL's birthplace, Hiroshima. In standard language, the words are "Odori nasai" and "Utai nasai", meaning "you should dance" and "you should sing".
MOMOMETAL speaks in the middle, that is 歌舞伎(kabuki) speaking. MOMOMETAL's odd pose is the Kabuki climactic pose.
The lines said by MOMOMETAL come from the 阿波おどり(Awa Odori), a traditional Japanese dance. Originally by.
    踊る 阿呆に(Odoru Ahoo ni)、見る 阿呆(Miru Ahoo)、同じ阿呆なら(Onaji Ahonara)踊らにゃ 損損(Odoranya son son)!
(The dancers are fools, the watchers are fools. Both are fools alike so, why not dance?)
    ※踊る(odoru=dance),阿呆(ahoo=fool),見る(miru=view)
If you are interested in Mikoshi, musical performances, etc., please search youtube for these characters and watch the videos. When the Japanese see this, our blood starts to boil.
