When you said “fall through the cracks” I totally felt that. I was a kid that fell through the cracks because I was a child with undiagnosed dyslexia. School was extremely hard and I grew up in a house hold that thought I was either “being lazy” or “stupid” or “not trying”. My oldest son does have bad comprehension issues and when he was in public school he was that kid that was “falling through the cracks”. No matter what my concerns were the schools just kept pushing him through to the next grade even though he wasn’t understanding what he was reading or doing. I’m so blessed I get to homeschool my children now. He does have to read lower level readers for him to understand what’s happening in the story and to be able to retell it back to me, but I am focusing on the growth in his confidence in understanding the story than how fast he can read or what reading level he should be in (like what public school focuses on). Great information in this video! Thank you ❤
So grateful to have found your channel today, it was so encouraging! Thank you! I just put together the clues half way through last year that our son is dyslexic and we think our daughter is as well, though less severe than his. Waiting to get in for an official evaluation, but based on online assessments and a review with our pediatrician, she agrees with our theory/presumed diagnosis. I have changed to Orton-Gillingham for his reading and it has made a world of difference. We are on level 2 now and now he wants to try to read signs and anything he can get his hands on. I am so blessed to have the opportunity to meet him where he is and customize our days so that he can learn and love to learn. I occasionally think "oh no, he's falling behind", so videos like this are immensely helpful, thank you again!
Thank you for sharing. My youngest (8) has learning differences and our reading journey has been a challenge. We’ve used All About Reading, Alpha Phonics and many other programs. We’re finding success with Sonlight’s phonics (Level 1 and 2), with Explode the Code. We also love Prenda’s Treasure Hunt Reading (free!). We also love Math U See. We’ve tried many programs for both my mathy-y child and my less math-y and it’s a great fit for both; I love that because it’s mastery you can spend as little or as much time as needed on a lesson/concept. The built in systematic review is also helpful. We will add the Kumon type sheets for fact practice -great idea.
Thank you for sharing !!! My son has SPD and math used to be so stressful. We fell behind because he couldn't complete lessons or the curriculum moved too fast. Thankfully, we tried Math Lessons by Masterbooks. He completed level 2 and is now on level 3. I find it interesting that they introduce multiplication and division together. We are also using Musical Multiplication and the practice book from Masterbooks
So glad things are working out. I have two children who "learn different". This fall I was introduced to Dianne Craft Right Brain Training curriculum and it has been such a blessing in our home. Just for instance you shared about your son's struggle with multiplication facts. Dianne Craft suggests showing the whole flash card (with the answer) to your child so he can get a picture of it. I applied that and now my child can recall facts quickly, now. Along with improvement in spelling and handwriting. It was worth the money and the almost six months it has taken to implement the program.
Ty for sharing! We are currently getting the kids evaluated at the public school to see if they have any other learning differences. Thank you for sharing your story, and to give this mom some more hope 🎉
I truly appreciate you posting this valuable video. It had so many great ideas to incorporate with my youngest son who's in 4th grade but I wasn't wure what level he was really on for learning specifically math. So I can personalize the material for him so we're not bith stressed out and failing.---With Math u see do I need to buy the manipulatives?

Yes, homeschooling is a blessing!
This is so great. 13 yo with dyslexia here. It’s super helpful to hear from a family with similar things going on.

Glad you’re finding success with Sonlight. That’s why I appreciate being able to homeschool. We can find what works best for our children! 😊

That is awesome to hear! I will have to try that with our flash cards. Thanks 😊

I did buy the set for Math U See but we rarely use it. I think it’s a case by case basis if it works for the child. 😊
I see your other channel is gone. I hope all is well with you and your family!
We are doing great. I just felt it was time to shut it down. Thank you for reaching out.
Glad to hear you are ok. I look forward to more HS videos. Love your content!
