I think it was me cos it has been so long because how much I love both Utena and Hailey Kyioko and this video is the perfect fit I imagined. I can't go without pointing out this one bad mistake in the Portuguese subtitles, "I'm real and don't feel like boys" was translated wrongly to "Eu sou real e não gosto de garotos" ("I'm real and don't like boys") instead of translated to "Eu sou real e não me sinto como garotos" (I'm real and don't feel like boys), but i can't fix it.
The last two minutes are my absolute favourite, especially the part when Utena is beginning to stand up and she's remembering all of the memories she shares with Anthy. It's perfect!
I'll be honest, at first I didn't think it would work, mainly because 'Girls like girls' is a pretty simple song about being sapphic and Utena is so much more than that. But then I watched it and oh god. You did it. You actually managed to fit those different complex topics from the anime in this video and it works! It's so well edited too, everything is perfectly in place and in synch with the music. My fav moments: 0:57 - 1:01 : shows similarities between how Akio and Utena treat Anthy, removing her agency and not considering her feelings 1:41 - 2:00 : shows how Anthy and Utena's love transcends everything in spite of whatever Akio tries to tell them 2:55 - 3:10 : even after the pain they've caused each other, Utena still cares about Anthy and finds the strength to keep going in her memories of the times they have spent together... She doesn't do it to prove her nobleness, or for admiration, or princehood. She does it simply because she loves Anthy. 3:26 : I think it speaks for itself :')

Of course that's a major facet of the show, but when people boil it down to that, not only are they missing IMO the core concepts of the series (facing and accepting reality as a part of growing up; the importance of letting go and moving on; the need to question authority and not take things at face value) they're also even overlooking the complexity of the Anthy/Utena relationship. I think the unhealthiness of their relationship is what makes their later breakthroughs so hard-hitting and emotional. At the same time, they still manage to grow real friendship through their time together, until Utena finally opens her eyes to all of the real Anthy. WHEW I will make myself stop here, didn't mean to write a wall of text! But of course there's a limit to how much of this you can reliably convey in a < 4 min music video to Girls Like Girls, so it makes me overjoyed to know someone picked up everything I was doing my best to put down in there ;__; Pretty sure this is the first comment that mentioned all that!! I would love a remake of the series, with an actual kissing scene between Anthy and Utena. Although the film is like a love letter to Anthy/Utena lovers. They gave us what we wanted.
@@hat7475 but! Their romantic development was so well written by Kunihiko Ikuhara. He did his best to make it romantic, no kiss necessary. And he succeeded. Anthy/Utena are one of the BEST romanticly written pairings I've ever seen unfold in anime EVER! He made hand holding mean so much. Lol

I'm still stuck on episode 14 or something because I lost motivation but am motivated to watch during this quarantine and I'm very excited to even watch the movie if I ever end the series earlier :D
@@hat7475 it gets very intimate between Anthy/Utena actually but also very dark. After episode 22 if gets intense. It's definitely worth the watch. You also get to see Anthy fall for Utena. So that's a plus.
It's not explicitly romantic in the show (although most people I know interpret it as romantic, and I believe the director has said it was intended as being romantic); it's more explicit (multiple kisses) in the movie.

Lots of Utena amvs use the ground punch, but rarely do they pack quite as much 'oomph' as this one.
