Here's what I would suggest to newer riders...
    First Upgrades:
    1. Dropper Post
    2. MTB Pedals
    3. Tubeless
    Riding:
    1. Do not chase anyone - Up or Down the hill
    2. Do not attack or chase up the climb. Just get there when you get there even if you have to walk up it.
    3. Use both brakes. Yes, you use the front too!
    Bonus. Lower your tire pressure.

  • @wryanturner

"Works like an office chair" is a perfect way to explain how droppers work. I've seen first-timers get confused by their droppers a lot. Very good tip.

    Here are my beginner tips.
Look where you want to go not at what you want to avoid. Look at the exact spot where you want your front tire to go. Your bike goes where you look.
Use the front brake. 70% of your braking comes from the front wheel. You will never adequately control a bike using only the rear brake.
If you spin, you win. Downshift, downshift, and downshift early. Wait to upshift and keep spinning after you crest a hill until your breath returns.
Beginning riders should start on rides that are short, flat, and smooth until they build strength, confidence, and skill. Starting on rides that are too long, steep, or rough destroys a beginners desire to ride.

I’m a 12 year old who’s starting to mountain bike and this vid helped me a lot. Another thing I learnt new is to get in the habit of one finger braking, as I always break with my two fingers but now I got comfortable with one. And the another tip I got was to lean back when going downhill. Thx for the tips!

One tip looking back that I wish I didn´t do as much is exactly the get back tip. I race Enduro and sometimes DH and what I found that really held me back is exactly the getting back. Instead of getting over the back of the bike try to stay forward and low over the front with your hips a bit higher. It helps to get pressure on your front tire. When getting back you have less pressure on your front wheel and sometimes like me in the beginning might even pull on it. Yes getting back feels safe and comfortable but in the long run it´ll just hold you back as you won´t be able to have as much front wheel grip

Thanks! I'm always stoked when anyone can connect with my content! All the "women's" tags make it easier for women searching for content created by other women to find my stuff. A lot of the women who follow me have found my content that way. Based on some of the interactions I have with the ladies out there, I will continue to make my videos searchable on women's topics but all are certainly welcome. Thanks again!

@@dustybettymtb You may have missed my point! You address the audience as “guys” in your verbal language and maybe consider a non gender specific language or use “gals or ladies” if that is the intended audience. I have been asked to alter my language away from the slang of things such as “ hey guys let’s get going” when there are people that don’t identify as he/him.

Thank you so much for this video. I got into biking through RUclips, bought a bike but haven't used it yet due to a hard winter in Canada. It was so relieving to hear that standover height isn't the end of the world. I have incredibly short legs and no bike I tried allowed me to stand flat-footed comfortably. The bike I purchased is wonderful, but I was nervous that I was going to be screwed over because of my height. Knowing I just have to adjust how I stand is such a relief. (And a good money-saver) Thank you so much!

  • @thomasmedeiros5722
    @thomasmedeiros5722 2 года назад +1

Great tips . It does seem that many new mountain bike riders may not have much bike riding experience. It really helps if they have been riding hybrid bike on the bike path. At least they have experience shifting , using hand brakes, mounting and did mounting properly as you demonstrated. I got into mountain biking from riding and racing road bikes which helps with cross over skills. My experience skiing in trees and moguls helped in learning to select a line. My advice to new riders is to look where you want to go not at what you want to avoid. Momentum is your best friend to keep from tipping over.

I found out real quick on my own seeing other riders doing this, Not being in the proper gear for taking off in traffic. Shift ahead of stopping to the proper gear for take off so you're not struggling in the harder gear. Same for coming up on a hill, shifting up with lots of pressure on your cranks makes your bike real unhappy.. Great tips! thanks for posting.. "There's a party in..." Oh ya you already know haha
