  • Many people choose wood posts for their fences and gate openings, but T-Posts can be a great alternative to wood posts. You can make your T-Post fence even more versatile with hardware kits from Wedge-Loc. In this video we demonstrate how to hang a tube gate on T-Posts using basic tools and the Wedge-Loc Gate Kit. Follow along step-by-step as we show you how to get the most out of your T-Posts!

    You say in the video that a Wedge-Loc diagonal brace is needed, but the brace serves no purpose when bracing a gate hinge post. You can see the post moving easily toward the gate (sag) in your video at about 4:51. As you say in your response to af7559, diagonal bracing wire will help, as it always does with any gate hinge post. I plan to use Wedge-Loc corner braces with a longer gate, with bracing wire aligned with the diagonal bracing T-post, pulling the posts together against the brace. (Fingers crossed.) If you have an opportunity to provide feedback to Wedge-Loc, you might want to request a means of securing the brace T-post to the 60deg socket, and locking the 60deg socket to the collar. With those features, no bracing wire would be needed.

      Came here to say the same thing. The corner braces work well because the tension of the fence pulls them together.
      There is nothing on this gate pulling the brace together and thus nothing holding the t post in place or adding any strength.
      What is the solution then?

      @@rosemcommm I used bracing wire as I propose above, and it worked very well. Two strands from top of hinge post to bottom of brace post, twisted until taught. I also added a separate diagonal brace post from from the top of the brace post to a large rock on the ground between the hinge and brace posts, and it's rock solid. 10' gate, multiple posts braced with Wedge-Loc, and barbed wire turns cattle and seems very rigid.

    Hi! This wedge lock system works very well! I have used them on 3 of my 4ft gates. Im getting a couple of 6 foot gates and one gate will be on a corner. Is there any kind of tension system that would work for the gate not to sag? I have googled and searched but cant find anything. Thanks!

      You could clip insulators on the hanging post and the vertical brace post to allow you to run a brace wire, similar to how you would run diagonal brace wires on a wood post H brace. You could also use an earth anchor system to solidify the hanging post so it doesn't sag or lean with the weight of the gate. Both of these options would unify and solidify your Wedge-Loc braces and make them stronger for preventing leaning or sagging.

    I like the gate brackets! Another question, what are you using for the 3 horizontal rails & associated brackets on the fence itself? I like that look and might fit a use case I have.

      The insulators you choose would depend on what style of fence you are using. We have a wide variety of T-Post insulators. kencove.com/fence/t-post-insulators_listing.php

    Great video! I purchased the hinge set and it works great! Now if I just knew what kind of latch to use for the other side. I can’t find anything that works and is simple to latch and in latch. I tried a regular chain link fork latch but it’s too wide for the post and isn’t a tight latch. I would really appreciate some advice. Thanks in advance!

      We are glad that hinge set is working out well for you! Several of the latch options could be made to work with T-post, they just have to be attached by another means than wood screws. Check out the Universal Gate Latch and the Kiwi Jr Sure-Latch. If you're willing to be creative in how you attach them to the T-posts, they should work for you!

    I like this mount kit for a gate. I noticed on the web site that this bracket is on back order. Do you have an estimate on when they will be available?

      These should be back in stock early April. If you place a backorder, they will ship as soon as they arrive.

    What radius can the fence swing? Pretty important detail that is left out of the wedge loc gate hinge instructionals.
    Can the hinge allow the gate to completely rotate back in line with fence and fasten the gate to the fence to keep it open?

    • @KencoveFarmFence
      @KencoveFarmFence  11 месяцев назад

      The gate will swing on at least a 180 degree range. The brackets mount on the T-post studs, so the determining factor becomes which way you face the T-post upon installing.

      @@KencoveFarmFence Not to pester but if you ever get the time, I for one would benefit from a video detailing those details.
      Thanks for the reply and I'm still on my search for a latch that will connect to a t-post and a tube gate.
      Latch attached to t-post and not a wooden post. And then latches to a tube gate to keep closed....I've looked in your site and can't find anything yet.
      Nice site btw...want to buy two 8 ft gates that will be separate gates, but don't like the idea of using a chain to keep closed.

       @KencoveFarmFence I'm looking at doing exactly this. Can you elaborate a bit on "getting creative?" Options I've come up with include attaching with TPost clips, finding some way to drill into the TPost and screw directly in, or maybe use some u-bolts. Would love any thoughts.
      And I agree that this would make a great video. There's some search volume on it, and I literally cannot find a single article or video on how to do it.

    • @KencoveFarmFence
      @KencoveFarmFence  9 месяцев назад +1

      @@JimmyDunn801 You could use Wedge Loc 2x4/2x6 holders (item code WH2H - kencove.com/fence/detail.php?code=HW2H) or the Wedge Loc Plywood holder (item code HWPH - kencove.com/fence/detail.php?code=HWPH) to install a piece of wood for drilling out a latch hole. Or drill a big enough hole into the bracket itself to be the receiver. You could also use the same Wedge Loc hardware kits to mount the Kiwi Jr. Sure Latch (item code GLJR - kencove.com/fence/detail.php?code=GLJR) on a T-post. Hope that helps!

    Hi, would this work for larger gate like 10'

    • @KencoveFarmFence
      @KencoveFarmFence  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hello, We would not recommend hanging a 10' gate on a t-post. Gates of that length put a lot of stress on their anchor post, which we would recommend using a wood post.
