Hamza's teachings and music are a gift to humanity, opening the door to ancient times, yet….timeless.

Saw him in the early '60's in upstate New York, when he first arrived in the US after being displaced from his home by construction of the Aswan Dam. Very impressive and helped open my appreciation for African cultures.

Hamza would play the oud for my 9 a.m. Arabic class at the University of Texas in 1975. I'm certain that he had been playing all night ... he was mesmerizing.

In 1981 he and his group played for an amazingly full room in a Gallery in Tribeca. We sat on the floor knees to knees with very little room front or back. He played for hours without pause and the silence when he placed his Oud down was profound.

The Nubians are still searching for a strong and healthy society after about a hundred years of their displacement from the country of ancient Nubia to the Nuba of displacement as they call it until now
They still dream of their homes, their palms, their Nile, their desert, and the soil of their country

    About the 4 elements:
These are the foundation of our faith as Nubians back at the pyramid age and beyond! these 4 elements, thousand upon thousands of years later, were the subject matter of the so called "Greek Philosophy" before Socrates known as "physiologoi" who corrupted the hell out of the whole spiritual meaning of these elements of our Nubian/Sudanese faith which is known today as "Sophysim"!
Yes this is where the term "Philosophy" came from!!
Sophysim (written as Sufism) is the fabric of the Sudanese Character, despite our current enslaved psychic and mindset , due to centuries upon centuries of Slavery, by Arabs and Europeans or our conquerors!
