I know Conan isn't, strictly speaking, horror, but there are many Conan stories by Howard that are either centered around or have a prominent element of horror. Add to the fact that general consensus (as well as the authors) places it in the same world as Lovecraft's stories, much like Smith's Hyperborean Cycle, and I feel that there is a good argument for Ian Gordon narrating Conan stories with his **divine narrative voice**
I'd love to tackle some Conan, but it has been done to death, which usually causes us trouble here on YT. Perhaps there'll be other solutions down the line...
Oof! That's a bummer of a job. I did it for 9 1/2 years and wasn't happy the whole time. I will say that I wish I had this channel to help me through a lot of dull days. Thankfully I had the full set of the lord of the rings books on cd. I mustve listened to it at least 25 times from start to finish. Anyway, best of luck. If I can offer any advice, don't stay If you feel like your spark is fading out.
Yikes. I’ve been encouraged to take classes to do some sort of computer data entry stuff. It sounds like the last thing I would ever want do day to day.
“ Amorphous shadows seemed to lurk in the darker recesses of the weed-choked hollow and to flit as in some blasphemous ceremonial procession past the portals of the mouldering tombs in the hillside…..” Keep up the good work and, as always, stay safe!
I’m so depressed. My window just fell out of the frame while I was cleaning it and I can’t ask landlord to fix it because he’s an insufferable, lying jerk, who’s always trying to swindle me out of money. I’m going to be eaten alive by mosquitoes tonight. Maybe this will calm me down. Thank you 😔
Great story and narration! I love it! It is an excellent adventure story, filled with sci-fi and esoteric lore! Written in the same style as "The Fire of Asshurbanipal." Love me some Howard! He really liked to use the last name "Brill". I always wondered if he eventually would have weaved a family story together if he lived long enough. Keep it up! This was a real treat and made me chuckle. Thanks!
Ive got my dinner ready and a story on deck. Well i think this night is just about where i wanted it to be. Now, if i only had that billion dollars i wished for... Psshh...what a rip off. But i still got a good story anyway. Thank you again, Mr. Gordon. I think you give yourself too little credit in your older readings but i cant say you've gotten any less capable with time. Well done...even the ones that are gnarly around the edges still keep me coming back.
He wrote so much in a short period of time. I mean he must have been at his typewriter most days. That might explain any perceived dip in quality from time to time.
@@HorrorBabble I need to do some more reading on Howard. I wonder if he produced a constant stream of stories and then returned and really fleshed out the ones that he enjoyed or if he just stuck on a story until he was satisfied with it. Regardless, the man was a river of ideas. Thanks for your readings Ian! I used to read all of the time but with the way I work now I'm constantly waiting for the next H-Babble drop to listen to on my drives.
I thought "Ghengis" was pronounced something like "Dshengis". In German we spell him "Dschingis" and then there is that Kyrgyz author called Chinghiz Aitmatov, so I assume "Chinghiz" is the Kyrgyz version of the Mongolian name.
I'd love to record some Conan, but it has been done to death, which usually results in trouble for us here on YT. There may be other solutions down the line.

i LOVE CONAN, and I would pay to hear Mr. Gordon narrate some of his adventures...pay my way that is...WITH STEEL!
@@HorrorBabble -> If you do some Conan, please consider "Red Nails'".
I second this so much 😂
Red nails is great, beyond the black river is great too (TPD)
I love this damn channel
Me too.
I'm glad it exists.
Same!
Right there with ya, pal!
It's pretty great eh?

Your channel has helped me work through the monotony of data entry in a work from home arrangement. Thank you!

That is a great descriptive paragraph
The greatest generation of sword & sorcery, thank you.
The first generation usually is.😉👍🏻
I started listening to this story last night and immediately fell asleep lol. Now for attempt #2. Love you, Ian!
Your voice reminds me of the lazy sunday radio programs here in the phillipines it take me back when life was not complicated
Looking forward to this later .thank u horrerbabble. ❤
Only noon where i live, but it's a holiday, so i couldn't wait til dusk lol
There is something captivating about the narrators voice that is awesome
Warren was spotted in Vienna, selling hand-made facsimiles of medieval manuscripts to the tourists for incredible sums of money.
No wonder he ended up dead.
who's Warren?
It can't be !! You Fool , Warren is dead !
Magnificent as always thanks Ian!🙂👍
HorrorBabble and an R.E Howard story I've not heard before?!
Perfection 💜
I listened to this while scrubbing toilets at my workplace and it really made the tedium of cleaning up after others much more bearable. 😂
Love REH. I also instantly pictured Brendan Fraser from the Mummy as the protagonist. This was pure Pulp (I mean that as a compliment).
I found this channel through cthulu readings a year ago. Have been listening since to so much more and awesome tales. Thank you for your channel
Fantastic choice
Man, Here's hoping things get better for Warren in 2025
Another excellent posting of a REH I had never heard of much less read. Enjoyable, thanks for posting!

Damn... I've been there. Good luck with getting it sorted.
This sounds like a job for cardboard and duct tape! I hope you found a way to ward out the mosquitoes!
Writer's like Lovecraft and Howard Died way too Young,,So very Sad 🥺🥺
This channel calms my soul.
I'm always excited to see a new HorrorBabble video drop, and double so when it's REH!😎🔥👏

Howard, is that the Same author who created Conan the Cimmerian?
Yep, same author! 😀 [Insert meaningful factoid here]
Yes.
And the movie Solomon Caine.
Almost single-handedly created the entire 'Sword & Sorcery' genre as we know it today, in fact!
Kull.
Well done Mr Gordon and Horror Babble! Very good. Thank you. Excellent as always. Until next time.

@HorrorBabble Thanks for response 👍 Well , those that love ❤️ and Nurture YOU!💙✨️
Excellent narration as always Mr. Gordon!
Also FIRST
Thanks!
Thank you -- much appreciated!
I auto like anything by R.E. Howard.
This story felt a lot like heart of darkness with some Sci fi elements. Once again, the narration was great
Heart of Darkness... meets Fu Manchu.
Spiders. Why'd it have to be spiders?
Giving away the ending?
Why does he have to give away the ending?
Guess I don't need to listen to this one.
👍
Cause there fing creepy brother
Spoilers. Why'd it have to be spoilers?
Another great one from the master. Rest In Power Two Gun Bob.
Thanks for doing another howard story. Makes me wanna adventure in the Gobi desert.
Thanks, what an insane story!
"for what is a man?"
A miserable little pile of secrets? Oh wait...
You did a great American accent! Beautifully narrated!
Very good, thanks!😎
Great story!
This feels like a movie they’d air on TCM
That was fun! Thanks Ian
So Good! ❤
Lets gooooOOOOOOoooo!
Your American accent is getting very good, Ian! 👍

I tend to agree.
Wonder if the 30 year passing of Howard until this was published is meaningful. I don't know copywrite law, however.
Nonetheless, Bravo Ian!!! 💀
Damn that music intro gets me soooo hyped every time.
Now we are getting a Robert E. Howard flamethrower from the Bard of Horror!
Thanks again, DotD.
Nice! Great ending for the good guys 🥳
always the best 🪶
Love the channel.
OMG
the mix list is on loop all
I just saw Warren the other day. He seemed fine to me.
When do we get Conan readings?!
They don't make Mad Scientists the way they used to....
How true.
Awesome Ian! This one was a little different than Howard's usual style IMO. Still good, but just off somehow as if maybe he were being hasty.

Someday Warren will make it. I'm rooting for you Warren.
Anyone else unable to set HorrorBabble notifications anymore? It says it's "for kids" wth?
That's odd...! Nothing on the channel is marked 'for kids'. I'm not sure what's happening there.

There is no extended Warren, you fool! Warren is dead.
As an Asian, this story is so racist I find it hilariously funny lol
It's not funny; but you have to get past it and if you can do that then the stories and the writing are memorably good.
Yeah. I'm not Asian and I rolled my eyes at all the racist elements.

It is funny. Guy has a good nature and can laugh at the ridiculous racism but be grown up enough to look past it and enjoy the story.
