Which again, possibly plays into the mentality of generations, where today's hot thing is about intimidation and fear, but back then it wasn't originally intended to do that and it wasn't anything special or meant to strike emotional distress. Though war and children's toys are two totally different things, I believe it's the same concept.

To be honest, I don't get why people bash on it. Sure, if the music was something from a horror movie, then it would be creepy. But keep in mind this was made in *1933*, making stop motion was pretty hard back then.
the only thing creepy about this is the fact that it's low quality because it's old. if someone recreated this exactly the way it is in 2017 with exact stop motion animation, just in color and with more clear visuals and audio, it would be viewed as very charming and cute, like the intended purpose of this short. i honestly think this animation is lovely and very impressive for its time.
