Girl, you don't need an excuse to switch households. I swear, I switch households EVERY time I play, I just have a hard time keeping my play style varied up otherwise. A change of setting does wonders against falling into a rut or getting infected by sameness.
This is what I've been doing as well! I was inspired to change things up by watching this channel. I started with two sims and I followed all five of their children in different saves and have picked an heir/heiress of one of their children. It really does help the game not be so stale.
You should do the park in the middle next! I always thought it had so much potential but it just doesn't have enough things for sims to do, y'kno? Like maybe place mats for the students to sit and all, that'd be adorable
I know sims 4 isn’t really your thing but I’d kill to watch you build and make sims in the game! It was nice hearing you talk about your future plans :) and congrats on moving soon!

The thing about the empty spaces bothers me as well, but I think they said that they do it for people with PCs that can't perform so much
