THANK YOU FUCKING GOD. I was honestly throwing up in my mouth this morning. Like I know there’s a LOT of people in the world like this (especially in Hollywood good god) but I truly thought this was another attempt to glorify being snobby materialistic pieces of shit. This is the kind of stuff I see constantly online and on tv now so tbh I really really believed this was completely legit. (Except for when the dude was like “Liiiitty” I was like come on no) I had to come on here and be like WHAT IN THE FUCK? Her career must be sliding lmfaoooo...Literally first time I've seen her play a black person on screen. She's always racially ambiguous. Like you dont know if she's black and it's never brought up in the story so no one says a thing.
I think the "Black AF" is probably a comment on colorism. I think in the Black-ish pilot episode Dre claims Bow is not "really black", and she responds, "Okay, if I'm not "really black", then, can someone tell my hair and my ass?" It's also depicted in certain scenes where Bow doesn't know where she stands, like with Junior dating a white woman, with a FB to the OJ verdict. Also, I think Anthony Anderson has jokingly called Tracee Ellis Ross a "hybrid". Rashida Jones and her sister, Kidada, have also given interviews on their Blackness. I think Kidada said something like it's always been easier for Rashida, because she doesn't look "as Black", and Rashida responded, not in the eyes of the Black community. Or, I don't know, when Pres. Obama was running the first time, and among the birtherism, there was the accusation that he wasn't "Black enough", because he was biracial, and raised by white parents. However, after he's elected, and re-elected, he becomes this cultural figurehead. Also, the mere contrast of the show's title, Black-ish, vs. this mockumentary title Black AF. I don't know. It all seems like a commentary on what is considered "Black enough". It is a never-ending conversation.
Thank you!! They got Rashida Jones in this thinking that they’re doing something. But the reality is, nobody would ever think she was half black. She passes as white majorly. Let’s get a new actress on this show
I wanted so badly to like this, but I can’t. The only difference between this and blackish is that it’s more “mainstream”, it’s like they’re saying wearing purple hair, gold chains, and buying materialistic items makes you “black asf” ... hopefully the narrative will change somehow through the show and it’s a reason for them portraying it this way for now. Bc right now it just seems disrespectful.
All you people commenting here about how great this is and how much you want to see it, you do realize that this is yet another remake of "The Beverly Hillbillies" whose major comedic premise resides in it's ability to effectively re-enforce every racist Black stereotype it can. But, naw, it's all good 'cause they talk cool and do cool Black stuff and it's got a rappin soundtrack -- and we all know that it ain't really Black unless it's got a hip-hop soundtrack. In 2020? Really?
@@BOTLHE95 Think of every disgusting Black stereotype from the 20th Century: Al Jolson in blackface, Stephin Fetchitt, Butterfly "I don't know notin' 'bout birthin' no babies" McQueen's turn in "Gone With The Wind", Amos n' Andy, and so on... Yes, it's one thing if it's an adult show or movie, but it's in a family format, so I worry most young people look at this and take away shallow or negative messages. Some may get the highbrow humor. Utimately, the show seems reductive.
Here's the one thing I haven't seen said but may have already come out: What if she didn't choose to be cast as the ambitious character all the time? Because she doesn't look "black" even if they sent her to a casting early in her career they probably marked her as not black enough. Even now if she showed up to a casting not many/any movies would try to put her in a black/mixed roll because people would have the same reaction everyone is having now.

So black-ish but much wealthier. Okay so is this refreshing? Enlightening? Aspiring? Relatable? Part of it seems to caricature "street"/projects living black experience, with tilting the children's water gun. It's difficult tight rope to walk succeeding in telling the black experience. I guess now more than ever rich black voices need to be heard? What is it trying to say? I think because the style is scripted reality TV there's something jarring about this niche... No I'm sorry, I know why I'm disappointed. I have watched news cycles of black men being wrongfully arrested and killed week by week for YEARS and young men shooting up in schools and church for YEARS. Theres something TONE DEAF about putting something like this out. Why when we try to talk, express seriously about these unjust it's not mainstream and respected more... I mean, you know what Id love, the very wealthy black people represented in this kind of show to address not putting more money in supporting the fellow impoverished part of the community, the problems that's been faced... Seems like Spike Lee era of putting something raw and gritty out is over. The ONLY take away from the trailer to me is that scene with them having dinner with friends and their friends saying their daughter purple hair is cute and Rashida firing back about how poor their friends are... disgusting, so belittling poor folks is okay? That's the type of people you want us to sympathize with? This is the comedy? Just disgusting.
Mia Li The rich black family is obviously the butt of the joke. It’s making fun of the black people who got so wealthy they don’t have any perspective. The kid said it: “You’re the whitest person I know”. It’s celebrities like Kanye or Will Smith who get so rich and successful, they lose touch with the culture they come from. Why is this bothering you?
OMG, thank you Mia Li. I just can't believe that we are 20 years into the 21st Century, and Hollywood can still remake what is basically Amos n' Andy with a hip hop soundtrack and call it "Progressive" -- and everybody is like, "This is so cool!". It is disgusting.
@@slidealama I genuinely just felt exasperated, like I really didn't get the point. Upon reading your feedback that the family IS the joke, I can appreciate that perspective.
@@SwingingInTheHood Thank you, for another generation maybe this could be a "new" funny, but I'm afraid not everyone will get the highbrow. A lot of young people can take something very negative from it because of the family format.
Odin Devine One acts black by putting on this facade. Acting “ghetto.” Not all black people act like this. You have a point a person can’t act a race, but the way people carry themself as if they are “black.” Like for example some people think listening to rap music, eating Cheetos, and doing their hair a certain way gives them leeway to say the n word. Everyone acts like a person can’t act black. But we all know the intention. When I listen to country music and drink Starbucks I get told I am acting white. I live in the Alabama trust me people can act a certain way.
I see in the comments that people are angry about someone that is mixed, representing black culture. Mixed people with black in them are black. We see the world through black eyes. And the worlds eyes when we do something wrong will see us as black. Like Rashida said the black community always makes us feel like we're not black enough. And don't get me started on white folks and the you're not black black. Or the you're whiter than me. Black people come in all different shades. Lets not have hatred in our own race. Outside of that, this show looks stupid I would never watch this shit.( sorry for the hate)

I am into this
this looks amazing
Me: Who here can list the Fab 5?
Everyone on RUclips: 🤷♂️
This look so good!
Even Netflix hopped on the “black” train. The main character aren’t even black asf. They keep picking people that don’t even act black. I hate this
How does one act black
Anthony Reese mixed people aren’t black. They’re mixed. People need to stop making that a bad thing. Nothing is wrong with being mixed.
Which comments are yall referring to. There isn't one comment bashing mixed people. Smh victim much?
Z Z I didn’t see any. lol
She's white though
Stereotypes AF.
T S everyone has a personality but is not a stereotype.
