  • For over 150 years a small factory in the Belgium countryside has been producing the finest artists linen in the world. Claessens has innovated, modernized and honed their craft over three generations but never lost the personal touch that results in a product worthy of a masterpiece.
In this episode we visit Claessens Artist Canvas to see how raw linen is meticulously prepared for the next great masterpiece of painting.

I also like the revelation that jobs you study at university for and jobs you start with an apprenticeship are equally valuable parts of the process. The people who mix the colors or carve the frames should be no less admired and valued than the people studying art collections or organizing an art exhibition. The people driving a harvesting machine are no less needed than the auctionators or art historians. It is all a community effort with the potential to find a wonderful fitting place for everyone. I wish we would see society like this more often. Although I am currently finishing my PhD, I definitely admire some of the cleaning RUclipsrs more than certain rich or famous public figures - including some professors.

@user-iy9wk6vy7zblame the quality of education on the system, the lackadaisical parents, and the teachers who are barely getting support, not the kids. Kids don’t have a choice in their quality of care.

Julian, Well said! I am Dutch and lived for years in Belgium. In Europe the tradition of at least three years of apprenticeships in all sorts of fields is valued. Respected craftspeople who take great pride in their trade. You undertook an amazing journey and at the end of the day you must have been treated to amazing meals! France has the name but the Belgian cuisine is unrivaled.
