  • This Moron Thinks Manual Screen Printing is Dead.
Just my 2 cent opinion, I know friends that have DTG, DTF machine, but I'm more prefer silkscreen. Silkscreen method for me is more durable, cost effective and can apply on any material substance. DTG is good but can only apply on cotton materials.,if it prints on material other than cotton, it's fail.. Dtf is also good but it have plastic feeling, dtf is good when applying on microfiber, poly but it's fail on cotton... It gonna crack when wash a lot of time Both Dtg and dtf have their own maintenance cost.... I'm more tend go to silkscreen

Nice job! Hope all is well.
Edit: Almost forgot to speak about the topic. People that think screen print in any form is dead are delusional. More than likely they were sold a DTG or DTF machine and think they're going to set the world on fire. While those machines have their place, they can't keep up with screen printing, the quality is not what most people expect from decorated apparel, and chances are they're catering to a market that's hard to scale and require a lot of customers to make any profit.
    Just my 2 cents.

That is true. I actually timed this once. I bought one of those machines and I had a 2 color print to do. It took 3 minutes to print one image using the machine, and I still had yet to run it through the heat press. I was able to screenprint 9 shirts by hand in 3 minutes without having to use the heat press. My prints were even smoother and more natural looking than what the machine did. If you have a lot of free time and don't want to get your hands dirty then the machine is good for you, but for those that actually want to make some money, old school screens by hand is the way to go.

That tape dam idea is brilliant! I've done the trick with two colors on the same screen for short runs, but it is always a "be very careful" situation. This will help for sure!

I love DTF and I've been selling DTF for about 3 years now, but I love screen printing. These are different production models for different volumes/artwork. It's always a red flag for me when a printer (whether screen printing, DTG or DTF) brings another printing method down just because it's not what they're selling.

You are right, DTG, DFT is a new technological challenge, but as always with this type of machines, you work for the manufacturers (fragile and expensive, "irreparable", ink costs... etc etc.... And big companies like Print on Demand are also a challenge, but if you look closer at their price / quantity, we're still competitive... And most importantly, what kind of customers do you want? What kind of quality relationship do you need? Find and follow your niche, keep your quality high, listen to the customer... Screen printing, like painting or sculpture (even if the 5 axes exist), will never disappear. We are proud Artisans, we're practicing an art that goes back thousands of years. Leave the millions to the corporations and the masses, there will always be a public for handmade ;-)

I'm with you that screenprinting is NOT dead or dying. And, yeah, that the face to face is more important. Also, okay, just my 2 cents, I don't like the look, feel or short print life of dtg or dtf. To me, just reminds me of the ol days of transfers. One last thing, only screenprinting has all those specialty inks and effects .

Another excellent video you also need to understand that NY has hundreds of not-for-profit organizations and all of them use shirts or other identifying items that require screen printing. You could come off if you go out there to rallies and introduce yourself and give them your card it goes a long way.

Screen printing will never die out especially for big runs. I personally love DTF and use it a lot more now because my customers order smaller batches.
Anything above 50 I screen print or get screen print transfers.

That cant be more true. I offer DTF and screen print, but almost always I show the printed samples on a shirt to the client. The clients go ALWAYS with screen print because of the quality and feel. The only way they go with DTF is when they don’t have the quantity of pieces to do it on screen print.

I disagree, screen printing is an art and adding embroidery takes away from the craft. another skillset to the shop and another piece of equipment to keep running. Too much for a 1 person shop. I had a embroidery machine for 6 months. Wasn't worth the hassel. more inventory and parts to keep in stock. Better off sending to someone who sews or embroiders as a fulltime business.

it's kinda of a weird topic because on one hand you have all these new guys skipping screen printing and going directly to DTF and DTG yet at the same time most of the young people I follow on IG and TikTok are screen printing in their bedrooms literally on the floor without a press and they're selling VERY well with their personal brands. Screen printing your own clothes for your own brand is basically like a cheat code for organic marketing and to get good engagement. You open the comments on these videos and you see countless people asking about screen printing and how to do it and people arguing about how since it's handmade/printed you should charge X amount etc. I'd say screen printing is more relevant and respected than it ever has before. When I was younger I had no idea what screen printing was but once I was in high school I started seeing it online and really respected it and the people who could do it and I feel that has not changed and has actually increased as time has gone on. The people saying it's dead just don't know how to properly advertise it.

So not true. Screen print is still very much alive. Most people don't want to go through the process to learn and perfect the craft. I've used DTF, DTF, screen print and sublimation and screen print transfers. I've seen numerous amount of people who HATE the feel of DTF and if it was more readily available would chose screen print anyday
