Zola was a pocket rocket. After being involved in athletics for sixty years I can uniquivocably state that I never saw any female better over the country than her.
Huh!!!!! ZOLA was traveling at 15:27 for 5 k pace here !!!!!!!!!!!! THAT WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD !!!!!!! ZOLA WENT ON TO HAVE A FANTASTIC SEASON WITH UNFORGETTABLE MOMENTS AGAINST DECKER AND PUICA !!!!!!!!!
This course was 4,860 metres that means ZOLA ran 15:27 for 5000 METRES if she'd run another 160 yards, over the country,,, look at the pace she is traveling at no wonder she was miles ahead here alot of these accomplished internationals would have struggled to run that time on the track !!!!! The amazing ZOLA BUDD !!!!!!!!!
Thanks bobtrouper for all of your Zola Budd tapes. There is one I'd particularly like to see again (if you've got it). It was a track race in Moscow when she beat the East Europeans over 3,000 metres. The European Cup I think. Unlike many of Zola's races it came down to the sprint and she just about held them off, suprising everyone.
Nobody like in nobody would have been able to beat budd on this day, not puica, not decker not sly, and the list goes on. To say kristansen was tired is utter bull!!! Many many years im still a very very big zola fan.
Bare feet and all she was in a class of her own. She did not have the kick of the faster athletes at the end, but was a class act nonetheless. Pity politics deprived her of even greater achievements.
My cousin Hannah sarpey_schafer was one of the protesters who ran in front of Zola Budd!I In 80s think it was a cross country race in 85? !.while the police werr holding back the crowd.Hannah a man and woman managed to break through a barrier and ran in front of Zola Budd.Hannah was from Liverpool Merseyside uk.please can you tell me what date this was and if there are any utube videos available to watch many thanks for all the videos
The clock stopped at 4:44 ,,, i presume that is the IST MILE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOOD GRIEF 💕 ZOLA BUDD,,,,NO WONDER THIS REMARKABLE FANTASTIC UTTERLY BRILLIANT PULSEPOUNDING RUNNER DECIMATED A WORLD CLASS FIELD BACK IN 1985# THAT IS MY PERSONAL BEST MILE ON THE FLAT TRACK,,,, FLAT THE FUCK OUT !!!!!!!!!!! THIS WASN'T JUST A COMPETITION,,,,,IT WAS AN ANNIHILATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEN SHE WENT AND DID IT ALL AGAIN IN 1986!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND THE FINISHING TIME FOR JUST UNDER 5000 METRES ZOLA ,,,, LADIES AND GENTLEMAN ZOLA BUZZ,,,,,,ZOLA BUDD !!!!!!!! THE LIVING LEGENDARY TINY ATOM SMASHING ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS DESTROYER!!!!!!!!!
No Kenyans or Ethiopian women? What fun is that!? Great race and Zola is a hero forever. Without Kenya and Ethiopia however, it isn't World Cross Country. It's like a hamburger without onions!
Ingrid would have won this, I guarantee she was going into the race tired as this was in the midst of heavy marathon mileage (she set the world record at London a few weeks later.) She sacrificed a win here to do well at London, her end goal.
Even if Ingrid had trained specifically for this race, she would have found Zola extremely difficult to beat. Bear in mind, they met again towards the end of the track season over 5km and Zola once again finished way ahead of Ingrid (and shattered her world record in the process).

Zola Budd is a true champion. One of the few athletes worth admiring. The way she was treated was an abomination. .
Great athlete of course. One of the few worth admiring? You lost me there.
An astonishing margin of victory. It's hard to believe how good she was at only 18.

Zola is a great runner, glad she isn't step on a thorn or sharp object while running barefoot

You seem to have a really nice cousin! No wonder UK is becoming more trashy by the day!
@presciencenowyerlaug I think she's coaching at Coastal Carolina. At least the last time I heard.

look on facebook
Zola was amazing! Such a pity those stupid clown protesters ruined the career of a tiny young girl before it even got started.

Fresh legs or not, ZOLA would have STILL kicked Kristian's skinny ass, sorry !!!!!!!
It’s a fair point Steve Starr and food for thought.
@@jimmymack1973 100% correct. Ingrid couldn't stay with Zola that day either.
