  • The Taos is new to the VW lineup and slots in right under the Tiguan. It competes against the Hyundai Kona, Kia Seltos, Honda HR-V , Mazda CX-30, Nissan Kicks and Toyota Corolla Cross. On the outside you will find a bright blue color, optional wheels, and LED lighting. On the inside there is a spacious cabin, digital gauge cluster and leather wrapped steering wheel. Under the hood is a 1.5L turbocharged inline-4 that produces 158HP & mated to a 7-speed DCT. Is the 2022 VW Taos a better SUV to buy than a Toyota Corolla Cross?

As an actual owner of this car, there are pros and cons. The DCT is actually somewhat rough to get used to, this is my first DCT car and I know it's not a PDK but for some reason it is still rough when it comes to accelerating and stopping (i'm happy my gf doesnt mind lol but i think its cus she doesnt know whats happening 🤪). Despite this though, I'm happy I have this transmission over a standard auto, I love driving my SEL 4Motion around curvy roads as it really handles that well. The transmission when used with Manual shift and fully turning off the traction control makes the car so fun to drive. Another Con is the engine, i wish it had more power and the interior quality (the plastics, the seats are nice and amenities included are also nice). The space is a big PRO, the car is actually perfect for hauling around 5 full sized adults. A con for some people can be the price for the top model, I payed $37k in Los Angeles but to me the price wasn't too bad, I was cross shopping with an X3 and Q5.

If you don't mind me asking, which dealership did you go to? I'm considering a Taos. Also, on long drives, have you been comfy in the driver's seat?

Taos SEL 4Motion owner since February. With full amenities, mine cost me just under $40k in the Chicago area. Agreed, since of the plastic feels lame, as does the lack of turn signals on the side mirrors or that they don’t fold in electronically, and the trunk is manual only. Otherwise, I think the Taos is pretty stunning and versatile in every way.

@@staceys1870 I drove from Chicago to Yellowstone this summer and the car was sooo comfy driving. I did not feel tired at all and the adaptive cruise control is to thank. Seats are very comfy (cushioned and sturdy). Big plus is that they are ventilated and this helps on those hot days. But I also literally drive from Sioux City to Chicago without stopping and the comfort was top notch.

Great review, but I have one nitpick:
The cargo capacity with the seats up is not 33 cubic feet. It is smaller than that. It is 27.9 cu ft for FWD models and 24.9 cu ft for AWD models. (The AWD models rear cargo space is smaller than in the FWD because the AWD models get a multi-link rear suspension, which takes up a bit more room than the torsion beam rear suspension the FWD models get).

This is a car that caught my eye as I research what’s out there. I’m in a 2020 Civic lease and I’m not sure Honda has anything for me. After 3 Civic’s in a row (16,18,& 20) I have gotten bored and my back had suffered with the bad seats and no support. From here I’m trying to figure is moving from a sedan smart or stupid? Should I try a VW or different brand? Then I watch videos and use internet sites and my mind is confused as heck. The price does get me but the Taos in comparison to its competitors offers a boatload more or the same than cars like the HR-V. And the impressive FWD gas mileage makes me wonder if getting 4Motion is worth it or move to a Tiguan at the pricing. I’m struggling to pick and choose and time is running out but I still thankfully have time left to still look.

This is an excellent design from VW. This kind of SUV can be sold all over the world. Wonderful bright blue color, clearly they are aiming for a younger demographic that doesn't have as much money. VW is good at wringing out power from 1.5 liter motor, which for Europe is a full size engine! 158 HP from 1.5 L used to be only possible in a motorcycle. Here in America we think we are being short-changed below 2 liters...
I don't see this succeeding well at 31k. At the moment supply is constrained and dealers are getting full MSRP. But that will end in 2023, and thus down the road this could be a slow seller as it isn't cheap enough. I know VW is broke from paying off Dieselgate ,which absorbed all their R&D money, but they need a hybrid power train for this car to keep it competitive. The Kona has so many more powerplant options, and thus i think VW once again is beaten by the Koreans.
IT is a tasteful interior; the blue accents are nice with gray.

Some screens do show more depends on the software but most companies make exact same software for small and big screen they offer for example Huyndai or others they have 8 inch 10 inch and 12 inch but all of them show exact same size picture just the icon look bigger but if you click on the camera or apple car play or whatever is exact same size in terms of how much you can see it’s just basically bigger picture nothing else
Companies should offer to see more when you have bigger screen for example if you put camera should see more view more surrounding on big screen but it doesn’t it just shows bigger picture and looks exactly same in small screen and to me 6 inch is already big I had after market 6 inch in my other car and it was huge I didn’t need it any bigger
So the only way big screen makes sense if it shows more extra icons or extra camera view like more what shows surrounding if it’s same view same amount of picture to me is useless

The top trim with everything u can get possible is like $37k might as well spend a little more and just get an Audi q3 🤷🏼‍♂️ I only find supposed to be mainstream vehicles worth it in their base two trims after that they just get to expensive u might as well move into a luxury brand. Like a fully loaded Toyota Corolla Cross and a base Lexus UX are only $2.5k-$3K different in price
