As far as we know, 1st of May is a holiday and 2nd of May is also a special day in Madrid. Would these days affect our trip in Madrid? What is your recommendation? Thank you very much in advance. Hello again Tony . I understand that if we buy the Paseo del Arte card on line, we have to pick it up from the museum whose web site we used to make the purchase. We're planning to use the Thyssen site on the basis that it might be easier to pick up the pass from there than from the Prado (shorter queues, we hope). Do you know where exactly we would have to go at the Thyssen - eg the general ticket office? And do we then have to use the pass for the Thyssen on the day we pick it up, or can we just pick it up and come back to make the actual visit on a different day? Any tips gratefully received. Many thanks
Hi Jenny, you understood everything correctly. Yes, queues at the Thyssen museum should be quicker, go to the general ticket office when you arrive. I don't think you have to use it on the day you purchase it. We've got info on other museum passes here ruclips.net/video/oeb4MfDRy4U/видео.html All the best.

Hello Tony, thank you for your work! I have a problem buying tickets to Prado Museum of Madrid because English version of their list of possible buyers doesnot have senior (65+). Yesterday, Spanish version gave me tge right choice, however because my understanding Spanish is poor, the window closed themself. Today I repeted the attempts however without a result. Could you please advise a way to by tickets to Museo del Prado Madrid. I have only one day , September 27, 2023 for the museum. Thank you, Olga Victoria
Hi Olga, we would have to be sitting by your side to be able to help. Our advice, ask for help at the hotel your are staying or at a tourist office (there are many spread throughout Madrid). All the best.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Thank you Tony for the advise. Yesterday was my lucky day- I managed to purchase tickets using Spanish menu😀, while I do not know Spanish, I just have started leaning simple frases for the trip.
Thank you, Tony! I hope to enjoy Madrid at the end of October for approximately 10 hours arriving by bus from Lisbon at South early in the morning. Then at 19.40 we with my wife will fly to Warsaw and then to Kyiv. What should you suggest for seeing sightseeings, how better to move through the city, when and how reach T1 in the airport? Thank you in advance, your subscriber Oleksiy from Ukraine
Hello Oleksiy, welcome to the channel. Your first problem will be your luggage. There is a left-luggage facility at the Estación Sur de Autobuses. From the station you could try to reach by metro Sol station. And do a basic tour including the Plaza Mayor, the Royal Palace and returning to Sol through Arenal street. Then back to the Estación Sur de Autobuses. Next to the station there is a railway station, called Méndez Álvaro, where you will be able to take trains C1 or C10 directly to the airport. You will arrive at T4. Take a free shuttle bus to reach T1. At the video we dedicate to the airport metro we explain how to buy the metro tickets: ruclips.net/video/NHcY9tJVvNI/видео.html In your case, you don't need to buy the airport surcharge. Hi Tony, we're arriving at Madrid international Airport and traveling by car to Andalucia region. Do you have any restaurant recommendations on the route from the airport to Toledo? Is there maybe a market where we could stop for a local meal? Or a neighborhood restaurant?
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal thank you for your quick reply. I am coming to Spain next month and so far, from my online research seems the country has done a good job accommodating people in wheelchair
thankfully I think you're right, the country has made huge progress over the last 20 years. You will find accessibility to most buildings and on the streets is quite good. But as you will probably know, that is just the beginning. Have a great trip!
You have the best advice ! We will arrive in Madrid for 3 or 4 days, then rent a car for northern Spain, the Galician coast then drive down to Andalucia, and back to Madrid. Any advice on the car rental when we are leaving /returning to Madrid ? Thank you

Thank you for the useful information. We will be in Madrid May 1st, which I understand is a national holiday. My question, will the Mercado be open and other public places? Do you have any suggestions of what we can see on this day? Thank you
Hi Terry, in Madrid most things open 7 days per week, only the food markets will be closed. But tourist attractions, parks and museums will open as on a Sunday. As well as the bank holiday on May 1st, May 2nd is a local holiday.
A bit confused about the multicard. In your video about purchasing a tourist card, you mentioned we would need to buy a separate card for each person. For instance i plan to visit with my son, can I purxhase a normal and then add a a child tourist package to my own card or by a separate card for him?
Hi Tony ! I live in California and am planning an RV trip in Spain. Could you make a video on RV campgrounds (say 5) that are close to Metro lines and would be a viable alternative to staying at hotels while visiting Madrid (and other Spanish cities).. You produce excellent videos !
Hello Greg, many thanks for your kind words. Your idea is great but it poses a problem for us. Here in the channel we only talk about places we know. And we have no experience whatsoever of driving an RV in Spain. Of course, we could research the topic and pass on to you second-hand information, but it is not something we want to do for the time being, we want to stick to the things and places we have experienced first hand. Hello there. Madrid is packed with tourists, wherever you go. You will find many even in Lavapiés or Malasaña. You might want to go to Salamanca, it's a neighborhood with a more local feel to it - although it is an upmarket district. The above mentioned Lavapiés or Malasaña, in spite of the presence of tourists, have a very strong local flavor too (imigrants in Lavapiés, hipsters in Malasaña). All the best.

I'm coming to Madrid on February 6th, and this video explains everything I need to know, very helpful, but i have only one question , for go around in city with subway and bus need to buy tarjeta or can i buy single ticket for the way .thanks !
Hello there. To pay for ANY trip in the metro you need to have a "Tarjeta Multi" (Multi Card). It is on the card where you load your tickets. You can buy a multi-trip ticket or a single ticket, but they have to go on the card. So, you need a card and then the ticket of your choice. All the best!
Hi Tony, I love your videos and they're really helpful. I plan to drive in Spain and will be heading to Madrid before flying back. You don't recommend driving in the city so I'm wondering if there are any nearby places we can stay and park and then take the metro to town. Thanks in advance!
Thank you for your kind words, Haslindah! Why don't you consider returning the car as soon as you reach Madrid? Otherwise you will be paying of the rental of a car you will not be using during the time you stay in Madrid. If you don't have a car, you can search for acommodation in the centre of the city, where you will be able to make the most of your time in Madrid. And on the day of your departure, you can reach the airport by train, metro, bus or a taxi ride (fixed price, 30€). All the best!
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal thanks so much Tony. I think it sounds like a great idea as it saves us the hassle too. Wishing you and your wife many many wonderful trips and keep those videos coming.
Is the multi-card only good in Madrid? WE are also going to Malaga and I'm wondering if we could use it there too? We bought a Renfe ticket from Madrid to Malaga that says Combinado Cercanias so I'm assuming this ticket is also good to take another train in Malaga to our destination? I believe we need the C1 after the Madrid train. Do I need to get a renfe ticket somewhere to validate the fare on the C1 Malaga train to my hotel? Thank you!
The MultiCard is a card valid for the Madrid transport system. You won't be able to use it outside Madrid. If you are staying in Málaga itself the Combinado Cercanías won't be of any help.

@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal I understood, thank you very much !
A great trip to you too!
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal thank you. I so appreciate your help. You have shaped my whole trip to Spain and Portugal. I seriously DO hope I run into you. If I do, im Melissa from Peru with an esposo alto Americano, Paul! I run into people often all over the world. I wouldn’t be surprised!!!
@@MelissaC269 gracias, Melissa. We keep meeting followers on the most incredible places, last week, in Alesund, Norway!
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal So fun!!!
I’m an American 🇺🇸 and enjoy your information. However when you start pronouncing Spanish in with your Spanish accent I cannot understand it, so I tune it out.
Thanks Dustin, didn't quite get your comment. I'm obviously going to pronounce Spanish with a Spanish accent, it's my mother tongue, I wouldn't know how to do it otherwise. But all our videos are supplied with manually curated subtitles. We thought it would be to your benefit to hear how the Spanish words sound.
Perhaps if you could clarify what you meant I could try to work on a solution to the problem.
What a tool
Good content but annoying loud music
