Dearest alt shift x, I come to your channel every couple weeks or so with great anticipation for a possible dune pt 2 video? Love your stuff, I’ve been watching for years. You’re awesome
I really like how you mostly just observe and point out potential differences between the book and movies rather than judging them, with the understandable exception of the fundamental nature of the story.

The biggest reason I love "Dune" story. Is the very simple act of one woman, throws the entire universe into a tailspin. Jessica giving Leto a son out of love. That single defiant act shatters the plans of the Bene Gesserit, the Imperium and Harkonnens. Arguably, the biggest players in the political arena. I feel like this movie is augmenting the story by these changes to the narrative. It's an uneasy and terrible burden to bear to be a "savior" especially to those you love and love you back.
@@Pierrespere-vm5of I detect hostility. Jessica was a Bene Geserrit Sister. Recruited, trained and tasked to birth a daughter for the Sisterhood. She betrayed everything dear to her; up to that point. All for the love of a singular man. This man happened to be a Duke and subsequently, both product and contributor to this breeding project. Lady Jessica was neither pathetic or simple minded. She stepped into it with eyes wide open. All for him.
@@Pierrespere-vm5ofLady Jessica is a Bene Gesserit. She is anything but pathetic. She can bend the will of just about anyone with her voice and is capable of altering her entire physiology down to being able to adapt her body to any poison and even determining the sex of her child. If anything, she is not serville to the system. She IS the system and she chose to shatter the whole thing by giving birth to the Kwazitz Haderach. All you see is the word "concubine" and immediately assume a pathetic servile position. Both thematically to the story of Dune and historically that is not the case. Go read a book and learn some history before you cast judgment like an uncultured brute
@@Pierrespere-vm5ofwell Jessica does fight the system and does it to a greater extent than anyone else and births and raises the one person who took the system and tossed it into the bin. By your description she should be admirable. Her choice to birth Paul is undoubtedly the greatest act of defiance against the system the dune novels present. It wasn’t Leto who subjugated her and made her into a concubine. It was the bene gessiret and the landstraaat’s politics. Otherwise Leto would’ve married her and says so directly but Leto is more of a slave to the system as you describe.
I *really* hope they don't skip Jamis' funeral ritual. It's a powerful scene in itself, but also says so much about both the Fremen culture and Paul's personality.
Ehh do u really think it’s that important considering they’re super likely to skip over harah and the kids and they kinda already deviated (in a great way imo) Jamis’s impact by showing who he could have been to Paul through dreams/visions, I just don’t think I see them making time for it
@@joshuawilliams2427 Harah is the one character that I would have no problem with omitting. It's a lot easier to convey general cultural mores quickly with images, and Villeneuve has definitely proven that he can pack in tons of meaningful information in one shot. Paul's obligation to Jamis' family might require too much time to flesh out in one scene. Directly seeing exactly what happens to a body on Dune is way more important, IMO. We need to see faces in a movie, so it's probably worthwhile to balance out people walking around unmasked like total noobs with a reminder of exactly how precious moisture is there. I think it's worth the render time.
hard disagree, I f**king despised the first movie and am quite sure I'll feel similarly about the second. well, I despised it by way of applying high standards proportional to the budget and hype. as a finished product with no context, it's not terrible, just very mediocre. 5.5/10. in fact, I would score rings of power higher at a 6 or 6.5 because while it doesn't have a few standout characteristics of artistic achievement like dune does, ROP is a more functionally watchable product that delivers at least a low level of entertainment and engagement. dune 21 has garbage writing and pacing that manages to a baffling degree to feel like nothing is happening when on paper there actually is major plot going on. there is not a single engaging character in a plot that simultaneously seems to be simple and also is quite incomprehensible to viewers who don't already know it because the movie to an extraordinarily high degree arrogantly skips central plot and character debelopment, but then I also really did not care enough to try to understand because it was all so vapid. acting performances from practically all actors are very noticeably inferior compared to how they normally act. it has barely passable uninteresting drama-noise-music (typical for zimmer without williams, zimmer can't write melodies). the movie succeeds at visuals and atmosphere - although there it is a flagrantly derivative mixture of star wars and lawrence of arabia, which are both better, despite star wars not being all that great either. yes, I know that star wars is derivative of the dune books, but this dune movie is derivative of star wars movies. it just tries to hide it by leaning into being extremely boring so hard that it becomes a sort of unique defining characteristic among blockbusters, because it's an unreasonable choice that nobody else makes. cloud atlas might have had a similar oh-god-just-let-it-end vibe, but I don't think it was so thoroughly empty.
I believe that all of the portrayals of Shaddam so far as an older man is to SHOW the audience how long he has lived. It would be difficult to have him look as young as the books and have the audience understand the complexity behind that.
I think the choice to have Walken portray Shadam and depict him as an old, impotent man is very deliberate. We know he's still the big cheese in title, but can clearly see he doesn't really fit the grandeur of his title. So it helps communicate the same ideas as the books, but in a visual medium. We can't see his thoughts and won't be spending that long with him on screen. So a more faithful depiction would be watered down. A series would have the real estate to depict him as the paper tiger he ultimately is
Indeed. Film is visual, and simply telling everything about him is boring, so showing how he is as a character both in action and his physique gets that message out much quicker.
Great point. The Villeneuve movies do this a lot - favoring thematic clarity over strict accuracy. Like in the first movie the Sardaukar are in their white uniforms the whole time even though diagetically, they're supposed to be disguised as Harkonenn troops. It takes advantage of the fact that film is a visual medium to subliminally communicate how different they are and also how alien they are to the environment of Arrakis.
That's the thing, he wasn't a paper tiger, he could glass whole worlds. It's just that he, like everyone, were utterly dependent on the Spacing Guild and the Navigators were utterly dependent on Spice production, so that when Paul highjacked the system and held the Guild hostage everyone was automatically held hostage too.
Yep, everything not taking time away from the exposition needed for the elements necessary to understand the plot at all is the right decision, even if super-fans might be pissed.
me waiting for the full Dune breakdown comparing Pt 2 to the second half of the book slapped onto the first half so I can get 3+ hours of breakdown content. gimme my new fall asleep essay, my good sir Shift
Not sure if they'll show the glitz and glamour in the movie, but perhaps the simplicity and serenity shown in the Emperor scenes also shows a certain kind of privilege and luxury? The universe is cruel and desolate and the supposed ruler of it all sits in calm distance while horrible things are done in his name.
This is like a literary analysis paper in RUclips format. I admire your formatting: a solid intro, detailed and referenced supporting content, and a fantastic conclusion which calls back to your thesis statement and references the supporting content. I think what sets your videos apart is your visual and literal sourcing of supporting text/images. This was especially apparent in your Game of Thrones breakdowns because you used different frames and text/dialogue quotations to weave a visual tapestry together that was ultimately zoomed out on at the end of your video. It both produced (visually) and re-enforced (thematically) the tapestry you wove during your analysis and frequently resulted in “mic-drop” moments (speaking in regard to your film analysis).
I'm surprised to hear you say the harkonnen ships were inspired by armadillos, because I assumed they were meant to represent bloated ticks. For me it created a pretty meaningful visual as they left Arrakis. I even interpreted their attack ships as being flea-like; all of which I thought was perfectly fitting for those bloodsuckers. I guess I'll have to demote all of that to headcanon now.
Yes, it's very clear the inspiration for many of the Harkonnen vehicles (miners for example) are that of ticks. I believe the DP (greg fraiser) even says so in an interview.
dune is absolutely my favorite book series of all time. as much as I wish they could just do a 1:1 port of the text to the screen, I understand why they can't and I actually don't mind the changes. All I hope for is to get to and hopefully past Children of Dune. I wanna see Miles Teg and Honored Matres on the big screen man.
I love Villeneuve's Dune, but that last section on "Ya Hya Chouhada" reminded me that one of the things I disliked about it is how much the Islamic/Arab/Persian culture and history which inspired Dune is watered down or removed wholesale. Finding and learning more about all these varied and deeply thoughtful connections to the Islamic world was one of the most enjoyable parts of reading the book. Removing "Ya Hya Chouhada," with its connection to the Algerian War of Independence feels wrong to me. But I suppose as long as the film keeps faithful to the central themes of the book, the watered down vocabulary won't take away too much from my enjoyment. Really excited for Part 2 regardless.
Its kinda a shame but let's be honest.... would you keep overt Islamic elements in a piece of media you're making if you know that some parts of Islam have a very long and VERY vicious history of reactions to said media depicting. I know I wouldn't risk that.
I'm honestly happy many of those elements were removed. The Islamic / Arabic elements were often treated as simply exotic. It would certainly come across that way in a shorter movie too.
I think it's the right choice to make a conlang. While it helped build a realistic exotic world for western readers, which I do love, it is kind of strange how they're using Islamic/Arabic/Persian words on a distant planet in a distant time. I think if he could, Frank Herbert would have preferred to do what Villeneuve is doing now, to create a new conlang inspired by those ancient languages. I think it will ultimately have the same effect, if not more convincingly. But I do agree that downplaying the historical Arab and Islamic references in Dune is unfortunate, it adds so much depth to the story. I suppose it's for marketing reasons, the risk of a backlash from offending someone has never been higher than it is now.
I never got into Dune until very recently and I've been thoroughly obsessed with it ever since. Dune Part Two is my most anticipated movie of this year and I'm so excited that it's just around the corner! Here's hoping it does well so Denis can adapt Messiah!
Whenever I describe DUNE to newbies, I just say, "The planet Arrakis is the Middle East, Spice is oil, and Paul is the White Savior who unites the desert tribes to make war on the rest of civilization." What keeps this formula from being offensive is that Paul is guilty and anxiety-riddled. He doesn't want his fate but he's hyper-aware that every choice is both his own free will and predestined.
No, 'Avatar' took the Dune story (a native people, in the way of mining 'Unobtainium' lolol), dumbed it down (like Star Wars did, in a different way), and turned it into a real 'White Savior' narrative. If you haven't seen Avatar I recommend watching it, so you can learn the difference
Just watched part 2 and EAGERLY waiting your videos on this movie. I think it was very well made, the changes were interesting. Especially with fenring. Im extremely excited for messiah, its my favorite. No pressure alt shift, ill wait a year for your perspective and editing if i have to
for what it's worth i would LOVE to see you do breakdowns of shows like "the fall of the house of usher" - the way that you can break down every aspect of a show is so helpful for someone like me who doesn't always get the complicated stuff (or, more often, totally understands the plot and themes until the last couple of episodes that proves my theories completely wrong) benefits so much from your channel. Thanks for all the hard work!!
Good idea. With red short hair, not so youngish looking but not old. Cunning, careful and cruel visage. He would even look like he is related to Sting Feyd Rauta, sort of like his line of family, gene pool contributor ancestor. Which Shadam is because of all the Benegeserit mixing.
Dope content like always. Cannot wait for part 2. As a long time fan of the books ( kinda one of my all time favs ? ) and native Arabic speaker, couple fun notes that I think you might appreciate if I may : "yahya chouhada " is more specifically referring to martyrs not only fighters :) ( which makes even more sense in the context of a holy war indeed ... ), Muad'ib can also be translated as : "teacher / educator / pacifier" depending if we add a specific letter in there or not.. often musing about how much Arabic digging Frank did, I bet loads more than accounted for haha Cheers.
I love your channel and have for many years but wow I am just so grateful you are talking about the Arab roots of Dune and how the films is earsing that history. No one talks about this enough and gives the story so much more power when included. Thank you!
Well, they're not Arab "roots" they're commentaries on Arab fanaticism and how external leaders take advantage of them but lose control. Sort of like how the Soviets backed Baathists and the West backed oil monarchies. In the end the Arabs are fanatical and can cause death and destruction if enabled. That's what Frank Herbert predicted, it somewhat came true, and people want to erase it because it can be considered islamophobic, lol.
Love your videos, can't wait for Dune part 2. Crazy how many people think this is a sequel and not a continuation, of the 1st film, though I do hope Villeneuve does do sequels.
He will do Messiah, though after that it is uncertain. He probably wants to do more than just stay on Dune for the rest of his career, but it would be nice for him to return with Children.
I’m holding my breathe waiting for the new dune video! The movie was so good and I can’t wait to just sit down and expand the universe with your video!

We both live in harsh desert climate with mountainous terrain that contains many caves we call them efri but Romans heard afri (africa) , great warriors and our name Amazigh means free men and now this city of Cartagh is very similar to the Punic city in North Africa Cartage. Nevertheless amazing movie enjoyed the first one very much and Alt shift x smooth voice explaining part 2 trailer just made me more excited!
@@Jason-gg4lmFrank Herbert spent time in Saudi Arabia in the desert. It was major inspiration for Dune. Especially the nomadic desert cultures and peoples. Heavily inspired the fremen. Bruh they go on a jihad, all of Pauls military titles are Arabic.
There is not another person on RUclips that can explain everything pertaining to all the different movies / shows / series / biographies, etc etc etc. and I mean this with all my heart!! nobody, absolutely nobody explains it in the manner that you do. That "light hearted moment of dialogue" felt more low key menacing than light hearted. It looks like a lot of the action and Chani's expanded role are going to ferry in much of the mindful thought you're kidding from the book, and that can be done more quickly for a broad audience.
That was so excellent! It explains the Dune universe as it has never been described. About 50 years ago, my brother told me about Dune, and said read it, it will change your life... and it did.
I think Paul's comment to chani about "doing what has to be done" is that he's gonna embrace being lisaan-al gaib and maybe that the holy war has to happen, and they're crying because they know what this will lead to (which is what Paul has been trying to avoid since his first vision of the war) and for chani she knows that this will mean the continued oppression of her people, and that even though this will be a means to an end they can't help but weep for those who will die and suffer as a result of it
That first ship looks like a tick as well, but I see the armadillo resemblance. Paul's life is not a desirable one. Knowing what he's responsible for, and the weight of his actions, cannot be easy on anyone's mind. Let alone a young man. I can understand why he didnt want to go thru with his destiny
Having read the book several times, I had often had trouble with previous depictions of this story, while fully understanding why putting everything, nuances, meanings, sometimes double and triple meanings: "Plans, within plans, within plans...", would've been nigh on impossible. The first theatrical release of DUNE had me thinking to myself: "Wait, that didn't happen there! Huh, what happened to...?" I sure you get my drift?😉 This latest iteration of DUNE hits more bullet points than any of the previous outings, and I enjoyed it, it was well shot/told, but you also see that it try's to include people who may not have any clue about the storyline: and I think it handled that well! I look forward to the next edition. And by the way, this vid was outstanding in the way which you explained the differences between the book and film. I thoroughly enjoyed it, excellent work! Kind regards.
Interesting thing about the emperor’s lack of rizz, it’s worth noting that most of Irulan’s costuming seems pretty extremely elaborate. It makes me wonder if the simplicity and austerity of this interpretation of Shaddam is ironic, a reflection of quiet expression of extreme wealth. Perfect fabrics, worn once and never again.
This is just top level content. I'd wished this video to come sooner but I feel like the quality would've been compromised so..... this is way better. Love all your videos my man❤. Also love the ocassional inclusion of words and phrases like "drip" and "space jesus"😂. To hear this kinda lingo from such an eloquent speaker is really amusing😅.
Yo weren't you planning on making a video about the philosophy of dune? I'm not tryna rush you or anything but that's the video I'm the most hype about.
Oh my God!!! I had nooooo clue that in Fatboy Slim's 'Weapon Of Choice' song, the line: 'Walk without rhythm, and it wont attract the worm!' was a Dune-reference. My mind is blown!!!
After the incredibly book-accurate first film, I'm so hyped for this next one. Hopefully they can fit in more scenes about the sort of peripheral characters that they couldn't make time for in the previous movie, like Gurney's interactions with Paul. Maybe the recent box office successes of longer films like Oppenheimer can convince studio execs that fans will gladly watch 3+ hour-long films as long as the quality is there. Because so far, it is there with Villeneuve's Dune. :))
Wish they would bring back intermissions. They’re in so many of the old epic films, and I think would make a big difference. Apparently a part of it is how many showings you can do per day/during prime viewing hours. So it’s harder to get distribution or something
Just want to say, your channel has been awesome for diving into the lore of Dune! I hadn't read the book before the first film, and it really blew me away, so I had to read the books. I'm currently reading Children of Dune, and I can't wait to see Dune Part Two.
"Long live the fighters" was a line first introduced in the 1984 David Lynch film, and a rather iconic one form that mixed-bag of an adaptation. And is likely an homage to that more than anything else.

I can almost certainly guarantee that they removed jihad because of its current political connotation, which is sad because it also can be used to refer to an internal struggle to be a good person which encapsulates Paul throughout the series

I recall that in the book the exact nature of the trap set by the Harkkonens and Shaddam was well explained (though I can't remember the exact rationale now). In the recent movie it wasn't explained at all. Atreidies just moved to Dune then got randomly invaded a few weeks later.
@@countdowntorevolution9986 The trap was the use of "over-whelming" force in the form of the Sardaukar hidden within the ranks of Harkonnen troops. The Leto's troops could have handled the Harkonnen but with the addition of a fighting force with a Kill/Death ratio of 5:1 mixed in, they had no chance. The Harkonnen are the emperor's trap, using them as cover for getting rid of rival under the guise of ending a Blood Feud.
It was explained a bit in Part 1, when Leto told Jessica, "I thought we had more time"...In the book Leto suspected Arrakis was a trap, but he thought he had more time to recruit the Fremen on his side...which made some commentators believe that maybe Leto really was power hungry and had his eye on Shaddam's throne....Otherwise he could have declined to rule Arrakis, stayed and ruled on Caladan, and the Emperor would not have considered him such a threat
No spoilers for the books (I've read the first three so far) but my dream head canon is that there is a Dune Part 3, which is the events of Messiah, then after that it is episodic television/HBO/what have you. It will follow the core story of Paul's messianic rising (and after), then after that in television format it would just be to dig deeper into the world itself with the Bene Gesserit and Fremen etc. Essentially, I just want Messiah to be companion to the first two parts because they would work so well as a Paul saga, plus who doesn't love a cinematic trilogy? Messiah is such a good book on its own and despite being so divisive at the time I feel it could be an AMAZING breath of fresh air for scifi cinema, especially after all the watered down cookie cutter stuff we've had to endure lately.
Just seen part 2, at Pre Premiere Wow!!! I can say its better than part 1. And those effects, omg. Don't watch this at home, even you have the best system there are, this must be watched at the cinema. I have a very nice setup at home in the 100 000's , but oh my iam glad i saw this at the cinema :) One of the best movie i have ever seen, no kidding.
Duke Leto's final notion as he's dying of the Tooth's poison is a statement of Dune's theme of people shaping the environment and being shaped by it in turn; _The day the flesh shapes and the flesh the day shapes._ He found profound satisfaction in that knowledge, even as he ended.
Thanks for watching!

Films like Dune are the ones that gives us hope about the future of sci-fi movies and cinema in general.
No. When comes finaly the WOKE-TRANS-GENDER-BLM-LBTQRXYZ%&/§$-DRAG-QUEEN-Leto?
hard disagree, I f**king despised the first movie and am quite sure I'll feel similarly about the second. well, I despised it by way of applying high standards proportional to the budget and hype. as a finished product with no context, it's not terrible, just very mediocre. 5.5/10. in fact, I would score rings of power higher at a 6 or 6.5 because while it doesn't have a few standout characteristics of artistic achievement like dune does, ROP is a more functionally watchable product that delivers at least a low level of entertainment and engagement.
dune 21 has garbage writing and pacing that manages to a baffling degree to feel like nothing is happening when on paper there actually is major plot going on. there is not a single engaging character in a plot that simultaneously seems to be simple and also is quite incomprehensible to viewers who don't already know it because the movie to an extraordinarily high degree arrogantly skips central plot and character debelopment, but then I also really did not care enough to try to understand because it was all so vapid. acting performances from practically all actors are very noticeably inferior compared to how they normally act. it has barely passable uninteresting drama-noise-music (typical for zimmer without williams, zimmer can't write melodies). the movie succeeds at visuals and atmosphere - although there it is a flagrantly derivative mixture of star wars and lawrence of arabia, which are both better, despite star wars not being all that great either. yes, I know that star wars is derivative of the dune books, but this dune movie is derivative of star wars movies. it just tries to hide it by leaning into being extremely boring so hard that it becomes a sort of unique defining characteristic among blockbusters, because it's an unreasonable choice that nobody else makes. cloud atlas might have had a similar oh-god-just-let-it-end vibe, but I don't think it was so thoroughly empty.

I believe that all of the portrayals of Shaddam so far as an older man is to SHOW the audience how long he has lived. It would be difficult to have him look as young as the books and have the audience understand the complexity behind that.
This is so true
Walken is a grat actor... that being said, we'll see if it translates to the role.
me waiting for the full Dune breakdown comparing Pt 2 to the second half of the book slapped onto the first half so I can get 3+ hours of breakdown content. gimme my new fall asleep essay, my good sir Shift
It definitely feels more unnerving to be in a serene place helps to focus on the people and the hidden tensions.
I like your analogy better.
I'm also adding this to my head cannon lol. It's actually very fitting
I guess the more overtly middle eastern references were deemed too risky. I'd like to know how people from these countries feel about the book.
Its kinda a shame but let's be honest.... would you keep overt Islamic elements in a piece of media you're making if you know that some parts of Islam have a very long and VERY vicious history of reactions to said media depicting.
I know I wouldn't risk that.
This is exactly how I feel about it!!!
I rewatched the explanation for the first trailer this morning and here is the explanation for the second trailer. Thanks a lot for your explanations.
I never got into Dune until very recently and I've been thoroughly obsessed with it ever since. Dune Part Two is my most anticipated movie of this year and I'm so excited that it's just around the corner! Here's hoping it does well so Denis can adapt Messiah!

For the hundred time dude, new Dune video PLEASE 🙏🏾.
Bruh calling Paul a White Savior is so dumb
No, 'Avatar' took the Dune story (a native people, in the way of mining 'Unobtainium' lolol), dumbed it down (like Star Wars did, in a different way), and turned it into a real 'White Savior' narrative. If you haven't seen Avatar I recommend watching it, so you can learn the difference

Thanks for all the hard work!!
Fassbender would have been good emperor casting. Amazing video by the way, thanks for the wonderful work!
Agreed, he would definitely fit Shaddam’s book description better than Walkin but his performance will be wonderful nonetheless

You don’t mention it, but when Paul says “Long live the fighters!” it sounds like he’s using the Voice.
About 50 years ago, my brother told me about Dune, and said read it, it will change your life... and it did.
I think Paul's comment to chani about "doing what has to be done" is that he's gonna embrace being lisaan-al gaib and maybe that the holy war has to happen, and they're crying because they know what this will lead to (which is what Paul has been trying to avoid since his first vision of the war) and for chani she knows that this will mean the continued oppression of her people, and that even though this will be a means to an end they can't help but weep for those who will die and suffer as a result of it
After just watching Dune Part Two, I'm impressed with how spot on you were with a lot of things
Huh, what happened to...?"
I sure you get my drift?😉
This latest iteration of DUNE hits more bullet points than any of the previous outings, and I enjoyed it, it was well shot/told, but you also see that it try's to include people who may not have any clue about the storyline: and I think it handled that well!
I look forward to the next edition.
And by the way, this vid was outstanding in the way which you explained the differences between the book and film.
I thoroughly enjoyed it, excellent work!
Kind regards.
Waiting the part two analysis 🙏
Interesting thing about the emperor’s lack of rizz, it’s worth noting that most of Irulan’s costuming seems pretty extremely elaborate. It makes me wonder if the simplicity and austerity of this interpretation of Shaddam is ironic, a reflection of quiet expression of extreme wealth. Perfect fabrics, worn once and never again.
My theory is it's visually showing where the true power lies. The emperor sits on the throne but his daughter wears a crown
The rich like to appear poor. Look at fashion.

I recall that in the book the exact nature of the trap set by the Harkkonens and Shaddam was well explained (though I can't remember the exact rationale now).
In the recent movie it wasn't explained at all. Atreidies just moved to Dune then got randomly invaded a few weeks later.
Leto was gaining in popularity within the Landsraad and Shaddam was worried that he could make a claim for the throne as he has royal blood
@@priorityecko4989 I understand the motive.
I said I didn't understand the trap.
Why appoint Leto lord of Arrakis then kill him?
@@countdowntorevolution9986 The trap was the use of "over-whelming" force in the form of the Sardaukar hidden within the ranks of Harkonnen troops. The Leto's troops could have handled the Harkonnen but with the addition of a fighting force with a Kill/Death ratio of 5:1 mixed in, they had no chance. The Harkonnen are the emperor's trap, using them as cover for getting rid of rival under the guise of ending a Blood Feud.
It was explained a bit in Part 1, when Leto told Jessica, "I thought we had more time"...In the book
Leto suspected Arrakis was a trap, but he thought he had more time to recruit the Fremen on his side...which made some commentators believe that maybe Leto really was power hungry and had his eye on Shaddam's throne....Otherwise he could have declined to rule Arrakis, stayed and ruled on Caladan, and the Emperor would not have considered him such a threat

God this must take so long to make, so much detail. Amazing, thank you!

I've read the book so i can infer what's going on from the trailer but I still enjoy listening to your "explained" videos. Cheers
Yeah but where is Alia? Her role in the final scene of the book is one of its most chilling.
Duke Leto's final notion as he's dying of the Tooth's poison is a statement of Dune's theme of people shaping the environment and being shaped by it in turn; _The day the flesh shapes and the flesh the day shapes._ He found profound satisfaction in that knowledge, even as he ended.
