Hi there, experienced programmer here. To make sure that no one can see the data, even the url, you could encrypt the file with a symmetrical key before turning it into an image. Personally I would have made a database to store all of the file urls and only use binary data, not an image. To make uploads faster, you could use multiple bots at the same time. As it is completely free storage, you could make copies of the data from time to time to make sure discord doesn’t delete it.
I'm pretty sure they don't delete things in chat unless you specifically delete them. When checking conversations with friends, there are old file attachments that still work.

Direct links to files indeed do expire, but messages don't, just save message id, and when you need your file, fetch the message and get a new link to the file. Btw I was bored so I decided to upload 6 TB of anime this way. Till this day, those anime are still existing on discord.
You forgot one crucial fact. the links expire after one day the hm and stuff changes you need to save the message ids then ping the discord api to get the link from the message id.
I did this as well, and its great, but just to warn you: it is kind of against discord policy, so you can't share the bot and you could get banned if you're unlucky. I turned discord into a file saving/sharing bot, and it was great until i got banned
has anyone tried storing files in youtube subtitles? people have been making bad apple play using only subtitles, i don't see how storing data like this is impossible

Good shitpost, for anyone else interested in this discord is changing their policy on linking to files since people is using them for hosting malware. So if someone else is gonna build this you might wanna keep track the chunks in a different way.

directly downloading wont work for long, as discord added signed cdn links that are only valid for a certain amount of time. This means that a link you have previously saved will not work for long to obtain the files. this means: - you have to store the channel and message ids instead - require fetching the message to get a new valid download link - then download the file
This would be a good PoC for putting a loader on a pc, having the loader just downloaded the image and decode it into the reverse shell, maybe even send commands through pictures

When i created a project like this using telegram instead of discord I noticed that when reading a bigger sized file it needed more ram, like for a 3GB file it took about 11 gigs of memmory. This issue should also persist in your project right?
isn't discord getting rid of this though? I thought files that got uploaded were going to be timed, and deleted automatically after the time ran out, so like if you upload something, it'll only be up for 24 hours something
after 24 hours the file isnt deleted the link is refreshed so the file just has a new id to prevent people from using it maliciously but you could literally just use the api to grab the message using the message id that doesnt change and then copying the refreshed link and have it scheduled every 24 hours

@@DracoTheNinja I'm a C++ programmer but I wouldn't recommend this anyways, discord has been messing with their CDN to slowly face out old stuff on it. Usually in the form of downgrading the asset or outright removing it. There's no guarantee of this being sustainable

When you store the image links for later use, keep in mind that the links expire after a while. You need to go back and get the links again.
