The scene showing Sasakura alone with the flaming shot was a punch to the emotional solar plexus, and then to follow it up in the next episode with the author and the Sledgehammer was nearly a KO blow. The slow-burning romance element also worked for me in a way that it didn't in Spice & Wolf, despite the superficial similarities between them. All in all, Bartender was not at all what I expected it to be and I have absolutely no complaints.
If I had one useless nitpick, it would be me being fooled by MAL early on in the season into thinking that this has 2 cours (I wanted to see what Ryuu and Edenhall at Hotel Cardinal would be like going forward, but alas, it wasn't to be)
