A Friday evening session at Perch Rock with my very good friend and Jack, his trusty hound. The main objective was to get Dave a thornback ray for his species hunt, which was achieved. A difficult session battling with the huge quantities of weed and algae drifting down the Mersey and clogging up the lines and ripping out the leads. We probably only end up with around 30 minutes of good fishing time when the weed finally subsided around low water. However, we both cuaght and great to catch up with Dave as I havent seen him for a while.

Nice one lads! I'm glad Dave got his target, I've just got back from a very poor session in the rock channel I was after a ray and hounds for my species hunt but failed miserably! The was quite a bit of weed out there too 🙄🎣👍

Mackerel / squid will work fine. I would go for large baits, as in the murky waters of the Mersey the fish are hunting by scent. Bigger bait gives them something to home in. 🎣

What rigs are you using to target the rays? Are they standard pulley Pennel or up and overs?

I usually use pulley dropper rigs for the rays.
