Sound guy here and here are some tips:
1. Use more moving blankets the acoustic efficiency is better for critical frequencies and they are super cheap and cover more sqft $26 for a 6’x6.5’ per super thick blanket, do the math.
2. Diffusion is key, don’t just absorb the sound, break up and interrupt the sound.
3. Use insulation and make your own if you want better quality and better on camera aesthetics.
For mixing....
1. Bass kills so roll off at ~40 hz
2. Get your speakers off the wall especially if they are rear ported.
3. Mix at low volumes, I prefer a 6 or 7” woofer and a sub to use at critical stages of the mix or sound design.
4. Use thick rugs on the floor
5. Reference on pro monitors and end user speakers as well.
6. Mix closely with cardioid or super cardioid mics.
Thank you.
Where did you purchase said blankets for 26?
@@UnworthySubject Uline prior to the pandemic had good prices, I’m not sure what they are now.
And I should have mentioned the Sennheiser HD6XX usually drop to around or below $200 twice per year, but during Black Friday its seems to be more certain...you can actually mix on these.
The dance moves are 110% why i invested into Full Time Filmmaker course
I love this Audio Guy seriously.
I even imagine him saying to Parker some other lifehack on removing reverbs on the room, "Well, you got people, just line them up in the room" XD
Zo Arquenix you imagine me saying that or you just remember it from this video ruclips.net/video/5nXxAGNU2VM/видео.html
@@ThatAudioGuy AH YES SO THATS WHY OH MY GOD
That Audio Guy 🚶🏻♂️So good. Ran right over & subscribed to your channel. Genius level stuff.
Those dance moves are 🔥🔥🔥

In all honesty, you put out the most value here on youtube that I have seen so far. Hats down to you and thank you so much for all your videos.
It's amazing listening to the audio throughout the video and how it keeps changing based on the amount of foam in the room
I always love his tutorials because they teach me so much and they help me improve my videos so much! the lighting set up i use for my studio is the set up i learned from his video on lighting. His tutorials are of such quality! keep em up!
This was super helpful
Setting up my new office-slash-studio by January. This video is very timely. Thank you.
It’s like they can see sounds... Amazing 🤯
Congratulations to your beautiful new office Parker!! It looks amazing!!
Awesome! Thanks again, Parker! So much helpful information in this video. I'll be following your advice in my own space.
I've been waiting for your videos man! 😊
Thanks for sharing this info! Always well done!
Another way to hang foam without adhesive is with very thin finishing nails. These allow you to "pop" the foam on and off with out damaging it and only leaves small pin-sized holes behind in the wall. Much easier to patch later if needed vs trying to scrape off glue or leftover adhesive.
Thanks for the great video. I'm upgrading my 1inch foam to the 2inch and setting it up like this. I can't believe the difference it makes.
Thank you both so much I needed this information for my new project.
Makes the biggest difference! Love the reduction that those simple bass traps allow for.
I loved this episode 😍 very informatic 👍🏻 Thank you sooo much Parker
interesting video for the considerations and seeing the cleaning up that happened between steps.
TY this the only yt video that actually teaches you HOW TO DO IT PROPER, & LOCATE THE REVERBS TY TY TY
Great tips from professionals, thank You so much guys!
Parker 😊im always looking forward to your videos, keep it up.
So helpful - just about to attack this in my studio so awesome timing and tips 👍🏻
Great project. Beautifull design and impressive results. Congratulations !
Best regards from Northeast Brazil
Thanks for this super video Parker. Love it.
This was great. Thank you guys!
I really hope nobody takes the life hack at 6:52 seriously
too late
Best video for me so far thanks 👍🏽
Fantastic video guys! I got a bunch of foam growing in my room right now and am so excited to slap them on the wall!
So much info in this video. I feel like I should watch it a few times to absorb it all. Love these types of educational videos. Keep them coming!!!
I get it! Absorb!!! LOL
Awesome love this vid. super informative.
Great video as always. Always pumped to see people giving love to audio. These collaborations have been great.
If I had a suggestion it would be that speaker placement is just as important as everything else. I know you brought up that space was an issue, but giving those speakers even a little more room to breath would make a huge difference. Especially those HS8s. They are quite large to have that close to the wall, especially being rear ported.
Another tip is that the triangle should actually meet directly behind your head not into it so the audio passes your ears.
@@fulltimefilmmaker oh well then sick! I was listening in the car so I was distracted.
i am all ready workin on it , thx Guys
When he introduces the foam it sounded like that Rick and Morty episode where he’s talking about fake doors. Lmao
lol.. i was thinking to myself, where have I heard this commercial before.
Your video was very informative to me. Thank you 🙏🏽!
Wow, the difference is foam! 3m sticky savers, noted! Thank you, awesome! I love to learn, and know why we need to do the setup. Knowing why makes you an asset to any company. You can see the importance of the vision and be far more helpful.❤
Great video... Thanks for that advice... Just bought home and will be making my private custom corner like that in it :)
This is my first video on treating a room. The dance scenes were funny. Great job.
Very helpful!
GREAT VIDEO! You are one of my biggest inspiration for my Film Channel! Audio is just as important as the visuals!!

Thank you!!!
This is like the best video ever.

Educational and entertaining... lol love it 👍❤️🤓
Great video...Aoucoustics r so importat.Perfectly described..👍🏻
Reallyy awesomeee!!
Hey Parker, i m a huge fan your editions, do you have a especific course only using smartphones, or some kind of recomendations. Thanks a lot for all tutorials.
Check this out: I also bought myself a $100 Gazebo / Pergola (200cm x 200cm) and placed it in my basement on a noise absorbing rug. I left the outside "walls" off and placed moving blankets on all five sides. Got myself a 10M led strip for the inside and some bass traps in the corners and foam on the inside off the blankets. Super easy set-up for recording with my D18 and singing at the same time straight into my iPhone using the Roland Go Pro mix. Call me cheap but I just love my little "tent" inside my basement. Nice and cozy. Love your channel man!!
Quick question, how often should I take the foam down and ring it out? If all those frequencies are being trapped in the foam, shouldn't I at least rinse and ring the foam out to remove all those trapped frequencies from time to time? Also, if I relocate my studio to another State and the foam has trapped frequencies still in the foam, would I be charged with kidnapping if caught transporting trapped frequencies cross State lines? Finally, should I invest in any locks or barricades for the foam? I'm sure most trapped frequencies are just going to roll over and stay trapped, but what about those ambitious frequencies that won't just accept being trapped and plan to escape? 😂😂😂😂😂. Thanks ladies and gentlemen, I'm here all week!
You teach me a lot bro
Hello Parker Walbeck channel I'm from Cambodian. I'm feel happy happy brother when I'm watching your Video and I got a lot of experience from you.
Thank you so much brother and your team wish you have good health.
The DUDES back at it!
Parker is the best
Brendo always has the most interesting t-shirts. Love them
is there a link to dance classes?
Good Video learned alot You guy's are killing it with them Awesome Dance moves you guys dance way better than me I would like to see Parker bust out and do some Break Dancing 😉
Dang, those are some incredibly sick moves.
no one - "White guys can't jump"
Parker - " Gimmie that Bass trap"
One of the Best Ideas of SoundProofing is "SoundProof Curtains" it actually Block outside Noise coming from Windows. Check Here: livesoundproof.com/best-soundproof-curtains/
Love the dance..
is there a subwoofer in this room? Would that be fine under the desk or better somewhere else?
I like this page The most
For the bass traps, if there was a gap in height like for you guys, would it be more effective to make sure the top corner is covered and have a gap somewhere halfway down the wall instead? Or it don't matter.
17:43 nice speaker weight.
Edit: I'm just joshin around, love the videos.
My studio is located in a place where the landlords say I can’t attach things to the walls. Can I make some portable/detachable panels that can work? Maybe not perfectly, but enough to hear a difference?
What about an under-chair mat? I'd hate to roll a chair around a thick carpet. Can you add a bamboo or cork mat under the chair and still avoid the audio bounce?
Sound improved, but you'd have to either redo every corner there, and the floor, or build a small booth and bring it in. That spot where you got the foam from, you had less waves bouncing around.
How about a room like that with an acoustic upright piano up against a wall near a corner, what can be done?
Love from NEPAL 🇳🇵
Nepal nice
I could buy the leftovers from precut foam from a website . Arrived in various thinknesses and most were larger pieces 70% off. It requires a bit more cutting and does not win a design award, but does the job. Check out if your shop has a similar offer.
Which shop?
How do you get the foam to stick to the 3M? Mine would never stick... it just keeps falling off!!
That choreography. I can help with that. ;)
do you think that canvas photos help with anything?
But what to do if you have to travel to places and do shoots in people's office where there's no panel? If there way to make it portable?
Great video Parker, but with all due respect, I would not use these foams by itself. You can get a mixture of materials, build the panels and spend pretty much the same ammount of money. You will kill the higher frequencies, but it won´t work for mids and low at all. Take care!
Isn't it interesting how many views and likes this video have compared to the rest on this great channel? 👏
If I have 3 screens the size of the iMac would that be an issue for the sound?
No
crazy how just putting the foam in the room stops almost all the reverb
Parker, wife will not allow me to put up acoustic panels. Any possibility that you might do a vid on use of Ferny’s-Acoustic Blankets? Thanks much for good video.
Me having problems with acoustics in office...
Parker: hold on, I got this.
What about the window what about when a truck drivers by when a car alarm goes off?
I love your dance
love from indonesia
Does anybody have any idea why those foams usually have those whole in between them and why not just pure plain foams
Great video. Question for REALLY cheap people... what about lining walls with moving blankets? Pretty thick. Not as good as panels but would it help in a short term basis? It may not look great but is it functional?
Yeah that's great! If you can hang the blankets an inch or two away from the wall to create even more trapping that will happen between blanket and wall. Like we said in the video, foam is one of many options and because of the way the room was, the budget, and the artist that wanted to shoot videos in the room, foam was the best option
That huge window is an issue glass is the most reflectable surface so make sure if you have glass anywhere or a window have it covered with something
Cool
I really like your style! #waytogo
Even foam is exzpensive for me ;) I once used 8 matresses against the wall, works good haha
@@fulltimefilmmaker Not for me, we just grabbed all the matresses from the house and stuffed it into one room. wasn't permanent either ;) That said, foam is quite more expensive in Holland
Hey man idk if you guys still check these but i have a couple questions
Thanks guys for this illustration but l need your help
Parker video !! oyeappp
13:21 I just died laughing at that moment 😂😂
Mr. Bytheway, you are a star.
Like I shouldn’t have died laughing during an audio tutorial but I did more than once.
Can you please do a review video of GoPro Max and GoPro 8 ? I have seen some videos comparing these two but they are extremely bad (awful editing, shaky videos etc) and I trust your opinion when I want to buy things since you always use stabilizer when shooting your videos. Thank you tons!!
How much did it end up costing in total
I came here to learn about acoustics. I left having a new favorite song
YUUUUSSS
I see Parker vid
I click
Would love your opinion about too much treatment? I've heard some youtubers audio sound awkward or "dead" sound and they have every inch covered where as others I see some treatment and actually sound better to me personally.
@@fulltimefilmmaker totally missed that part. Thank you!
