    Thank you so much for this awesome video. I have made this and I just love having a cardboard box in my living room blowing slightly cool air out one end and heating up the other end. This has many applications for people like me who love having one side of a room a fraction of a degree colder than the other side. I highly recommended that people make this. Ditch your AC, why have something that does one thing well when you can have something that doesn't do two things. Seriously make this, it will change your life just like how it has changed mine. I don't know how people can live without a loud cardboard box in the middle of the room raising your power bill.

    I understand the basic concept with the pelitier module, and I know they work pretty well to cool air. The main question I have is why are the holes on the back of this unit next to the area with the hot heat sink is? It would seem that having the air coming in from the side and directed over the cool heat sink would provide better cooling of the sir over all.
    Aside from that, it's a quick little build that will provide some cool air for a small room. It's not going to get as cold as true air conditioner would, but if you stick the hot heat sink out of a window with the air vents for the cool heat sink on the inside, I can see it providing cool air without too much trouble.
    Nice work.

      Common sense says he's trying to cool the big heat sink by drawing g air around it. Silly. It won't cool it n if it did he'd b pulling n warm air for his peltier to cool. Useless electric cardboard box that works against itself;(

  • @georgecrabtree2013
    @georgecrabtree2013 6 лет назад +24

    Excellent, but a couple of suggestions. The cooling heat exchanger needs a shroud around it to direct the return room air across it. Also the cooling exchanger is going to condense moisture and make the cardboard soggy, some kind of drip pan with a drain would be helpful. Also, the heat exchanger on the outside needs a fan on top to draw air in the sides of the fins and out the top. Thermo-electric chips don’t have much of a temperature difference across them if you don’t get rid of the heat as quickly as the other side absorbs it. Nice design.

    If you run that for any length of time and the cardboard Will get soaked with condensation. Also you won't be able to bring down the temperature in the room at all because it's not getting rid of the heat outside. This is the equivalent of a taking a window A/C and sitting it in the middle of a room. It needs to be in a window to reject the heat from the condenser coil outside. It's still a cool video.

      I have a good plan , Instead of air cooling of peltier we should take a long water cooling heatsink at amazon at INR 600 and insert 2 peltier modules with heating side towards the water cooler, then buy a mini water pump from amazon at INR 200 and take 2 , 15cm water pipes of diameter and fit it with the motor the insert water in the heatsink by running the motor and the seal the two ends of the pipes to the motor and heatsink,and then attach a 4000 rpm fan with heatsink like in your pc, ( actually 2 of them might work more efficiently), this is an great idea as it work very well for min ac ( not for cooling the whole room but to get quiet great cooling if you are infront of your pc , watching tv or eating or sleeping in the bed in summer), but if you want heating the you can do air cooled peltier ac !

  • @CJNotez

    hey this is not portable ac this is portable heater,it generates a lot of heat from backside you should send it out through pipes and use peltier modules between fan and heat sink,or else this is useless.Don't cheat viewers
    Edit :Guys did i sad anything wrong?

    • @deepsauce8961
      @deepsauce8961 6 лет назад +10

      Pardhu Tech ,how can we use Peltier modules between fan and heatsink . If we use modules b/w fan and heatsink it produce heat on backside then the first module is useless??and the heat will surround inside the ac box and it will not even produces cooling the fan will release heat??can you explain what you say????

    • @flybywire5866
      @flybywire5866 6 лет назад +36

      The peltier module creates a temperature difference between its two sides. It needs electrical energy to do so. Therefore the hot side will radiate the heat it gets from the cold side - heat doesnt disappear, its transferred to the hot side, which is why the hot is the hot side - plus the heat from part of the electric energy it is operated with. So in sum its a HEATER. Operating it makes the room hotter, not cold. To achieve that you would need to place the hot side outside of the space you want to cool down. Oh, and when you are looking to have an ac with maximum power consumption, thats it.

    • @vejl
      @vejl 6 лет назад +27

      Stupid design. This unit will only work outside or if it is sitting in the window. Strange why he did choose to have the air intake close to the hot heatsink? Cardboard is also flamable dont use it without observation.

      The only way that this would be useful is if you were sitting down, stationary with cool air blowing on you. Then it would work.
      I have a stall at the flea market, outside in florida so cardboard wouldn't work, but this would work well.
      edit: didn't work, heatsink not good enough.

    This ONLY works if the hot side is OUTSIDE YOUR HOUSE...
    The temperature in front would be cold, but the temperature in your room would remain unchanged.
    Actually no thats false, the temperature would rise due to the heat from that AC adaptor.

    You made a good effort to try to teach us your knowledges.
    So for that, Thank you a lot.
    I think that your project can works if the posterior part is placed towards the outside of the room which implies that the box is in material different from the cardboard so that it is not destroyed by the humidity generated by your mini air cooler system.
    Do not be discouraged by people who do not appreciate your efforts.

      Oil Paint with Brett actually it could work.... The device attached to the heat sink is a peltier module.... It draws heat from one side and dumps at the other side electronically and so u have a cold side and a hot side but it's very inefficient but then the design is flawed as the fan is drawing in air right from the hot side... Lol

    • @nameofthegame9664
      @nameofthegame9664 6 лет назад +1

      Oil Paint with Brett it would actually work better with a metal tub of ice on a heat sink. The peltier element in this application is basically useless since it heats up the room on the other side.

      If you take apart an electric iceless cooler, these components are what you get, if you slid this in a window it is essentially a very slow window ac unit, but will work, not a bad design however would be better with a heated air exchange point other than the room itself... Otherwise its just a personal cooler that makes the room hotter, and eventually defeats it own purpose, because it will be cooling to the original temperature... (original room temp, 90, turn on cooler, air comes out 60, yay!!!!!!!!😁, 45min later room is 110 air comes out 80, yay!🙂, 10 min later room is oven air comes out 100, 🤤 box thrown outside...)

    I was expecting a box of ice inside or something which would at least cool the room instead of heating. If you had the temperature sensor in the room or near the intake instead of directly after the cooler, your error would have been more obvious.
    Others have suggested that this might work if it was mounted with the back of the unit outside. This would perhaps be true if you hadn't have made the inlet there too.

      It's not for dropping room's temperature, it's for cold fresh air. A little AC like this one will have a minimum heat generating effect just like a 100W older bulbs or maybe less

    • @kreynolds1123
      @kreynolds1123 6 лет назад +52

      Fact remains, the net effect is it warms the room. If you want any enjoyment from this you have to stand in front so why not stand in front of a fan blowing through a wet cloth? it would have been less costly. Alternately, it would have been trivial to vent warmed air outside through a flexible dryer vent tube, and drawn air from the front rather than the rear where it is preheated just before being cooled.

    • @cheetahrunout

      Attach a box at the intake with freezing elements, now it converts the ice to water as a way to dump its energy. + the intake air is way colder, that will help.
      Other option is to place this in the window (and somehow close the gaps).

    This can cool a tiny room within hours maybe. Peltier elements work, but they have a quite low efficiency and additionally run on comparably low power.
    Also, you have to isolate the hot and cold part. Try putting an open fridge into your room and you will see it actually produces heat. The heat on the hot side must be pushed somewhere out of the room.
    The temperature sensor doesn't measure the ambient temperature, it measures the air being blown out, which later mixes with hot air coming from behind.
    Though, it's nicely crafted. Just technically nonsens.

    The heat sink on the back generates more heat. In a real ac system, the unit is inside and the compressor is outside. The indoor unit generates cool air, while the compressor generates heat. so if you want a good ac, glue a pipe on the back, drill a hole on the wall, and connect a vent outside. And try to add a filter to block bugs from getting inside the vent, or inside your house if you didn't seal the pipe on the back properly.

    All AC's operate as a Heat Exchanger. Heat is drawn out of the air through a thermal expansion process usually driven by evaporation of some liquid. That heat needs to be dispelled OUT OF THE ROOM you are trying to cool in some way, or you are just setting up a Futile Cycle. That is why all AC's have to vent to the outside - to dispel the heat that was removed from the air rather than just pumping it back into the room you are trying to cool.

  • @sohamchoudhury6767
    @sohamchoudhury6767 5 лет назад

    For everyone complaining that it is a room heater throwing cold air....you are right. But then normal ACs also won't work if it is inside the room completely. Windows AC backs are exposed to the atmosphere. Similarly split ACs have 1 unit outside the room and 1 unit inside. An effective way to use this portable AC will be to use it while sleeping. If you can find a way to make a tent like structure with some blankets over your bed, then you can keep half of this AC inside and half out. This will warm up the room but cool up the area inside your tent, the bed area. :)

    How to use energy to move heat from one side of a box to the other side of a box. This is completely silly. You're pumping heat, to the back side of the box which is still in the same room.
    Further, it's likely there will be condensation on the inner heat sink which will drip on the cardboard and turn it into mush.

    • @sharkie1777
      @sharkie1777 6 лет назад +1

      I dont see it at all as silly. This is how other AC works, and thats why there is fan which pushes hot air outside from the inside and also why there is a drainage system to collect condensate and is released outside in a conventional ac system. Which means that the OP only needs to add a system for draining collected condensate (line it with plastic and attach a hose to drain the condensate) AND just place this ac in a cutout through a window so all that generated heat is released outside. I am surprised that these solutions did not come to you since you recognized the flaws right away. Would you not agree that if you addressed those two issues you brought up this idea is actually not a bad one?

Or you can make a "vaccum" with a second fan on an isolated compartment that vent ou the heat using tubes to take that hot air out the room, that may reduce the heat a tiny bit.
