  • Learn About Fike Blue™ - Fike’s Solution to Effectively Suppress Lithium Battery Fires & Thermal Runaway
Energy storage systems support up to thousands of lithium-ion batteries, any of which can experience an unpredictable and extremely dangerous phenomenon called “thermal runway.”
During a lithium-ion thermal runaway event, the temperature of the battery increases rapidly, leading to a self-perpetuating cycle of heat generation and a chain reaction into nearby batteries (known as “cascading” thermal runaway). This cycle causes the batteries to release flammable gases, emit smoke and eventually catch fire or explode.
And while water and other chemical agents have been used to suppress these fires, they are ineffective at stopping the problem itself of thermal runaway, resulting in batteries that continue to produce dangerous off-gas and explosive environments.
Fike Blue is the first third-party tested and patented solution that not only suppresses the fire but also stops cascading thermal runaway.

    I love it.

Interesting solution. How is the agent directed to only the module where the thermal event is detected? Is it an electrically actuated valve or a thermally fused element? Or something else?
How is the module vented to allow the Fike blue agent to enter? Are any details provided on what the agent is?

Hi Nick, Initial battery failure is detected by an incipient detector and/or the system Battery Management System (BMS), that initiates release of the Blue agent. The agent enters a piping network that is connected to all of the battery modules that are protected. Each module has a thermal element that will allow the agent to enter the module that is experiencing the event.
Natural leakage of the battery module will allow the agent to enter. Let us know if you have other questions, or feel free to visit fikeblue.com to read more.
