Really impressed with how good the Sub 4 and 5 bass models sound, quite a bit like the real thing. Only downside with the stock electronics for me is that the bass frequency in the boost area of the control can easily clip the stock preamp, but the bass sounds so good on other settings that you don’t even need that.
I just picked one of these up today, and I'm loving it. You do a fantastic job of demonstrating its range of tones and describing what's going on there. Cool video man.
Great 😊 job demoing without all the ego I see from other cats showing their chops . You type bassist that will sit right in pocket . I appreciate your humble spirit . God bless you . I just subscribed
Nice to hear you play. I just ordered the same bass you have, in black. Can't wait to get it. Your video confirms that ordering that bass was the right call. I've been into Marcus and J Basses for over 45 years now. But I started on a Sabre fretless, I guess I'm sort of coming full circle. I'm still going to play my Js, but it is nice to get an extra flavor.
I'm glad and happy for you. I hope it gives you more pleasure than I have with mine, and believe me, I absolutely love mine. I also have a Ray 34ca and a Ray 35. No this, I'm recording a CD and because of the tone, my SUB is being used more than either of my sterlings, my jazz basses, my PJ bass, or my acoustic/electric bass. For this recording project, it's # 1 out of 9 basses.
@@bassworship50 I also have a Ray34, which is what enticed me to check out Sterlings 5 string. My new group plays in a lower tuning and I didn't want to adjust my Fender because that's my baby and I wanna keep that in standard tuning. I anticipate the Ray5 to be as good of not better quality than my Ray34. Thanks for the informative video and if you gotta any music I'd love to hear, man.
Great demo! I’m not a bass player, I’m just looking for something good for the studio, and this video sealed it for me. Super clean, but meaty as a 4 inch thick steak!!! Awesome!!
Sorry, I should rephrase "this guy" to addressing you, Anderson. I am looking at a used one, and your review is terrific. Thanks for taking the time to do it !
Just ordered one of these beauties cause of you man, I was deciding between this and a Squier classic Vibe '60, but you've really put into perspective what that fifth string can do! Hopefully I can reach your level of understanding the fret to just jam out like that someday!
Thanks so much for the compliments and kind words about my playing. Just know that the classic vibe 60's bass is one of my all time favorites, seeing I used to own a 68' fender jazz bass. As for that low B string, it gives the player so much more range. I'm glad I was able to influence your decision because someone did tge same for me. I sold mine and after a year, I bought it back in the same condition. This bass is always with me in recording sessions because the lows are so clear and clean. Let me know if I can help you with anything else in the future. I hope and wish you Nothing but the Best on your bass journey, peace.
The body is "basswood". I have two other basses with the same wood for the bodies (squier deluxe active jazz basses) and have never had a problem with live sounds or recordings. "To each his own" is what I say...
I liked it but I only kept this bass about 2 months. I sold it to my drummer and bought a Ray 35. When I tried to buy it back from him, he wouldn't sell it back to me....
Brother great video thank you. I wonder can you still play the bass when the battery died. I mean does it play without battery like passive or does it need a battery to function.
@@rickb1266 Yeah good to know. Man for a couple a hundred that bass is a catch I play left and it's available I will get it and maybe switch the pickup eventually but hey if I like it like that it's cool.
Great vid! I have a question, what is the situation with a balance of this guitar? I read that when playing standing up, when you let go of the fretboard, the head of the guitar goes down. What does it look like from your experience?
You forgot to mention ur skiZZles that makes the bass sound like the real deal! I agree with treble; not needed all the time because it gets tinny; except your playing! May I ask what kind of head and amp you have in that garage? I just got my black SR5 and I'm setting the action; ok off this phone to finish up:)
Tried one out today. I don't like that finger spacing. I don't like the sound. I tried the 34 with the roasted maple neck and Alnico pickups. I was blown away. Not worth $700. I want the roasted maple and neo pickup model. That's gonna be a grand at least.
Ok, I also have the 34ca (classic active) and a 35 in which I really love. I'm not a fan of the string spacing of the sub but, it serves the purpose for why I purchased it. Much love and success when you get yours, peace.
Thank you for your kind words, the strings are Ernie Ball Slinkys.. I sold the bass shortly after I brought it which was a mistake. I upgraded with the Sterling Ray 35, but I should've kept that bass!!!!! The drummer in my band brought it and will not sell it back to me although he can't play at all....
Anderson McCant Thanks for your reply. Interesting that you still miss having the Sub series bass while owning the Ray 35. I’m a lefty so options are limited. I’m torn between ordering a Ray 35 or Sub. Enjoying your informative videos, keep them coming!
@@HermanSays, I got this bass back from my drummer. I did a video on getting it back. It meant a lot because my wife named that bass and getting it back made her very happy 😊
This video is the best demo I have seen!!!!
Thank you! That's much appreciated!❤
A good stingray bass WITHOUT the crazy price tag! Even the S.U.B model sounds great!!!😌👍🏾

Best demo and review of this instrument that I found. Amazing playing and general sense of the sounds produced. Thanks.

This is exactly the kind of review I needed, thank you! No offense to the rock guys, but none of them got into slap at all
I'll get one soon!
Holy crap you are amazing on bass. I just ordered one of these. From what I've read it should sound as good as my fender jazz 5
Thank you for the compliment and your kind words
Je viens de commander la mienne en gaucher, j'ai hâte de la recevoir et de l'essayer, ta video m'a vraiment donné envie de l'avoir , thanks Anderson
Hope you enjoy it like I enjoy mine. I just recorded six songs for a CD with this bass.

I got a sme bass with yours,,,
I like the finish it’d be rad in an emo band
I’ve just ordered one literally on the back of your review 👍🏼
I hope you enjoy it. Do a video when you get it
Yeah, that spacing is more for pick players. I am curious about the body material because the tone is not as good as the OLP I had years ago.
The body is "basswood". I have two other basses with the same wood for the bodies (squier deluxe active jazz basses) and have never had a problem with live sounds or recordings. "To each his own" is what I say...
You can get that body built from any wood that you like and it's not expensive. I should have had a Ray built for a 18.5 Hipshot A style bridge.
How are you liking it? Just ordered the mint green one and can't wait to rip into it.
I liked it but I only kept this bass about 2 months. I sold it to my drummer and bought a Ray 35. When I tried to buy it back from him, he wouldn't sell it back to me....

Idk about this one but with my active basses in the past when the battery died, the bass didn't play at all!
It will start to distort and possibly cut out.

@@Idontlikethisever I replaced the pickup with a Seymour Duncan Ceramic Humbucker, it made a big difference!
@@rickb1266 Yeah that sound to be right. I will get one and do something like that. 👍
What bass cab/amp were you using in this demo? It sounds really clean and nice. Im picking up a lefty version of the same one you had tomorrow
Fender rumble 300 combo
If that was my company I would change the finger spacing to 18mm so the heel of the neck would have to be wider.
Are these good? Or should I just buy another bass for the same price? How well does it compare to the Ray25 or Ray35
I'm not sure how they compare, probably the best thing to do is go to a music store were you can play them both side by side and you be the judge.
Great vid! I have a question, what is the situation with a balance of this guitar? I read that when playing standing up, when you let go of the fretboard, the head of the guitar goes down. What does it look like from your experience?
Not mine, it's very balanced. No neck-dive here.
Thank you very much!

Thanks, Ernie ball slinky
