✨🎸 I had such a blast making this video for you guys! It was my most ambitious project yet and I had so much fun getting to know these D'Angelico DCs! Which one is your favorite?? 👇
Josef Antinucci to tell you the truth, my wife and left NYC due to the Covid-19 situation. I did bring the Excel Mini DC with me so that has kept me busy during the quarantine! Stay safe my friend!
You one of the few RUclipsrs who does a real breakdown on the d’angelico guitars, I just want to let you know it is REALLY appreciated. And you inspired me to get one.
😎Great groovy tunes and guitars! I have the DAngelico Excel SS (single cut)with Genuine Kent Armstrong pups, Natural finish/Tort PG; boyy, the sound is HUGE!
I was initially disappointed to hear that their highest-end series is made in Korea - but they seem to be specced out really well. Similar offerings in that price range don't always have locking tuners, and it's cool that they're limited to 50 units per run. Great video! There isn't much info on D'Angelico out there on RUclips right now. This video summed up their DC models really well.
Yeah I used to be a "made in America only" type. For a long time that was the stigma. But I think "Quality Control" has gotten a lot better, and a good guitar is a good guitar, regardless of where it's made. These guitars have really made me think that way, I love everything I play from D'A. Thanks for the kind words and support, my friend.
Hi Joey, already some years ago, they were made in Korea, actually it is a question of craftsmanship and d'Angelico has found extremely good builders in Korea. Quality has always been up to the legacy brand.
They are not as well built as MIA guitars. They were fairly priced a fee months ago but they’ve increased their prices by 30% or so and they now don’t make any muchsense. And I recently bought one…
I'm a Chinese and as far as I know, the Korean D'Angelico's quality is better than almost every brand and their guitars are just like art work. So you can trust it :)
There nothing wrong with the Korea guitar . I’m using it as my main ax now . I have a gold top Les Paul . I have a PRS 408 private stock artist package. And 10 top and a Suhr and my Angelico I put it against any of them
I bought my DC Deluxe a couple of years ago. I got the green one, on sale online. Haven't regretted a day since. Wife likes it because it's a GAS killer.
Patrick: I ordered a Premiere Mini DC XT (Sweetwater exclusive w/Duncan pups) after comparing specs & sounds, heavily inspired by watching THIS video many times over Monday morning, Oct 18, 2021. It arrived Thursday afternoon October 21. Perfect neck for me; just what I want. Neck dive I can live with considering everything else that's spot on w/it. Guys: get one.
purchased a Premier mini DC in Ocean Turquoise, a great complement to my ES-335 in Pelham Blue, extremely light (I appreciate much currently after a quite substantial shoulder surgery), the quality/price ratio is unique with d'Angelico. Had some issues with tuning at the beginning (mostly G-string), now over with time and really enjoy the guitar, compact, and particularly the slim C-shaped neck a pleasure to go along. Owned years ago an Excel DC, which I sold for the ES-335, quality was then already equivalently very good. The only thing I would put on the fall side, the guitar is neck heavy, which I solved with a Jaykco strap in suede (I only use those straps), give a good grip and compensate for the neck heavy guitar. Last but not least, it sounds amazing, really love it, and this is the bottom line-up with Premier.
I have a light blue SS175 Deluxe with a bixby ..its a single cut away about 2000.00..they made 50 of them ..its a sweet guitar ..and the gold trim really sets it off
Thank you Patrick! I just picked up the Cherry red Premier DC- thanks to your review- being one of the few reviewers on the D’Angelico line! Great video and keep up the great work! 👍🏼
Just ordered a Premier DC mini in a Black Friday sale over here in the UK. Always wanted a hollowbody and those extra af headstocks sold me. That's some NewYork swagger I need in my rainy british life.
@@PatrickBreenMusic Thank you for the kindness of a reply. Working on upgrading the quality of my channel. Any feedback would be apricated or celebration ideas.
I was so impressed with the D'Angelico Prem DC 6 guitars at a local retailer, I shelved plans to buy a Gretsch G5422TG-12 in black as a gigging tool, and waited for them to order in a Premier DC 12 for me to try. The wait was worth it. I bought the DC 12 in Ocean Turquoise. It serves me well onstage for country rock, is useful for jazz, and is loud enough unplugged to fit in with a local acoustic bluegrass jam. It was the unplugged volume that sold it; it had heaps more oomph unplugged than the Gretsch. I'm a 12 string specialist, and have a mix of instruments for work and play, Martin D12XAE, Fender XII, ES-335-12, Dean Boca, and an aging Dano, but the Prem DC has the crown. By far the best 12 in the quiver.
I have the premiere DC in fiesta red and even though its the lowest of them all price wise, it sounds great with so much range on the pickups, and plays really well
Ey man, just want to say that i really appreciate this video. Had a hard time figuring out what the differences were before watching this. Quality content man!
The reason for the wood block down the center is to stop it from giving feedback like a full hollow body when you play on an amp. I own the Premiere in Champaign in my collection. I also have Gibson and Epiphone semi hollow bodies, as well as Les Paul's. Good luck on your next production. 😊
Love this video, thank you for all informations, so I decided to buy excel mini dc! I like very much backing track you used in this video: could you share it?
Something about these just sounds *better* than any similar guitar - more clarity and chime. Not sure what they're doing and I'm more of a metal player but every time i hear one I'm like ffff i need that sound
Just seen this as I am researching a D’A purchase. Your playing and style is great, what’s that called?? I am so tired of rock and distortion I need to learn that style of playing. Thanks IAIN
Am a beginner player in jazz... What guitar would you recommend for jazz. Interested on a semi-hollow with a center block. Really appreciate your input . Much blessings 🙌 🎸😎👍
Great video, trying to decide which one to buy. I cant see any explanation anywhere of the differences between the double cut versions and the single cut versions. Is it just an aesthetic thing or would the single cutaway versions sound a lot different? I really prefer the single cutaway look :(
I have played the SS a bit. It's definitely the same level or quality that you find here with the DC guitars. Great guitars. The premier SS is very similar to the premier DC. I believe the pickups are the same, it utilizes the same materials as the DC, has the same pickups and comes in the same 3 finishes. If you liked this Premier DC but want the SS shape, I'm sure you will be happy with the Premier SS.
I'm a jazz-rock/fusion fan & would love to hear a HOT player on the DC Mini!! Play it through a screaming Mesa Boogie! John Goodsall, John McLaughlin, etc. Nice concept!
What is that little thing at the tip of the headstock? I'm trying to replace the hardware on my D'angelico guitar with gold hardware like the guitars in this video.
Love your videos! You do such a great job! I’ve been to the showroom and I recommend everyone to get over there cause it’s like guitar heaven on earth! What I wanna know is how did you manage to take these back home? Cause I can’t imagine getting these through the subway or getting through New York traffic 😂
Nice video Patrice, can you tell more about the difference between the mini and the normal DC. Is there obvious difference in sound and is the neck the same? From video sound the mini sounded a bit more compressed. Your taugths on this would be welcome... Ultimately if u had to choose between the mini and normal which one d u keep. Tks a lot. Stay safe
MrAntpre honestly, the premier mini DC is a killer. I was shocked at how nice it sounds, especially for the price. The premier mini gets the slight edge over the premier Standard sized, in my opinion. I just really dig the sound, the size, playability. But smaller guitars always appeal a bit more to me The excels are a bit more difficult to choose between. The standard size excel DC just has something special about it. The warmth and playability really stand out when you play it and it really feels like you’re playing a modern classic. The Mini gets points for the ebony fingerboard, compact body, sound and feel. The mini doesn’t have the same “wow” effect that the standard size has when you first pick it up, But it still had a lot to say. The Excel mini is my personal choice, it just has a little more of what I’m looking for. But I wouldn’t be surprised if most people picked the Excel DC (standard size) as their favorite. It’s a great guitar.
I wanted a nice semi acoustic with a double cutaway and almost purchased one of these but was offered a yamaha sa 500 which has turned out to be an excellent guitar but I'm gonna have to change out the pots and possibly the pups
Hello Patrick, I loved this video. I own a Deluxe Atlantic (solid body) and I was wondering about the weight of a Mini DC. Did you by any chance measure this? I can't find information about the weight of that guitar anywhere. Thank you.
Yes I have played it, nice guitar. The reason it wasn't included in this video is because it's a guitar center exclusive. But It's comparable it the other premier guitars, but with p90s of course.
I've always loved the headstock and those Jazz Hollow Bodies from the 30s or something to die for but I ain't paying three grand for a guitar made an Indonesia
I just wish they had bigbsy on something other then that limited run. These guitars scream BIGSBY!! Yet none have the option except for that rose gold.
hey man, like the video. I'm interested in the DC Mini Excel, but I wanna put the 'bigsby' like trem on it and the locking tuners. Do you know if they'll fit? and if so, where can I buy the parts?
Honestly, I haven't played Gretsch guitars enough to really weigh in on this one... I will say, Gretsch guitars do have a specific "sound" to them. A little more bite and grit for my ear, which is dope if that's what you're going for. I have always really appreciated the versatility of D'Angelico guitars. I think they're really focused on making guitars for the modern player and guitars that do a lot of things really well. At the end of the day, you should play both guitars and see which one feels better. If you can bring in some of your pedals, or play through an amp that you like using, that's the best way to see which guitar will suit you best! Cheers Tony!
I was just curious since the fender player series is just 100 bucks less then the dc premier would that guitar be a good beginner guitar or should I keep the hundred and get the player series. I know these two guitars are very different when it comes to style and tones but I really love the turquoise color and that neo soul vibe that you played throughout the vid. Hope to hear from you soon 😊 ✌🏼 🎸
Honestly it's just a matter of preference. Both companies make quality guitars, so you really can't go wrong either way. If saving that $100 and finding the most affordable option is your top priority then go with the less expensive guitar. But if you're really interested in D'Angelico guitars I'd spend the extra $100. I don't think you'll be disappointed! Obviously, the world is a little crazy right no, but when this situation calms down and stores start to open up again, I'd definitely recommend playing both guitars and see which one you like better. My first D'Angelico was the solid body Atlantic guitar. I never anticipated loving it as much as I have but it just had that special "something" when I picked it up for the first time. It has become my favorite guitar. Point is, you don't always know what guitar you're to fall in love. So play as many as you can!
Patrick Breen hey man, thanks for the advice I’m glad I was able to get a reply. I’m definitely going to give both of these guitars a shot if guitar center ain’t closed. I’d think a test would definitely help me out thx again love what you do keep it up!
also dont sleep on Dangelico strings they make a huge difference and if you love that rnb neosoul sound pick up some elctrozinc rock strings. And put them on everything! I instantly regretted changing strings on my premier when I got it fixed from a bad set up. Now I'm putting them on my strat and my purple burst epiphone les paul.
Gotta say, the D Angelico guitars are really nice. That said, I wouldn't trade my Schecter Limited Edition in matte black with gold hardware and no Bigsby for any semi hollow at any price. It has a great neck and the sweetest ebony fretboard and cost me $500 used in mint condition. I bought a hard case and will someday upgrade to locking tuners and a set of Lollar Imperials. It is a desert island guitar. ❤
Great review! The Excel series is drastically overpriced though. The Ibanez JSM10/20, As153 have mahogany variant necks, ebony fingerboard, premier fret edge contouring, included hard case, bone nut, for half the price. If you don't like the super 58s a set of Seymour Duncan's will still be a lot less.
✨🎸 I had such a blast making this video for you guys! It was my most ambitious project yet and I had so much fun getting to know these D'Angelico DCs! Which one is your favorite?? 👇
Did they allow you to hold on to them for the time being?!? Ha!! Playtime! (At least you won't go to crazy cooped up!)
Josef Antinucci to tell you the truth, my wife and left NYC due to the Covid-19 situation. I did bring the Excel Mini DC with me so that has kept me busy during the quarantine! Stay safe my friend!
The Mini DC's ares really intriguing. That is a great video. Thanks. The extra grand for the Excel may be possible but they are both sweet!
@@PatrickBreenMusic Jeez, take care Patrick!! I live in AZ, it is scary out here!!
The premier DC especially the champagne one cuz it reminds me of the Rehab music video correct me if I’m wrong

Great to hear man! I love their guitars and want to make videos for anyone looking to learn more. What model did you get??
I just purchased the Premier EX 1

😂😂😂 That was definitely a close call!
2 heart attacks. the break and the headstock repair bill.
x2
Same here... omg, that was close!
God... I’m in love 😭 they’re just so beautiful!
They are beautiful guitars, well built fit and finish is amazing... very versatile and they play very nicely ❤🙏
My Lord. My heart sank when he put down the mini. Thought it was going to fall.
Pretty sure it did, bc there was a cut in the video.
😎Great groovy tunes and guitars! I have the DAngelico Excel SS (single cut)with Genuine Kent Armstrong pups, Natural finish/Tort PG; boyy, the sound is HUGE!
The story telling and production quality here is great. Nice vid bro.

Great video! Would you advice a premier dc or premier mini dc for a warmer sound?
The standard size DC will give you a warmer sound. Bigger body = warmer 😊
The transitions are fire keep it up.... I love your videos
That excel dc is gorgeous. Making me want one.

Thanks for review. Actually ended up getting the Premier SS after watching this to play Jazz and Blues--So thanks.
The SS is a great guitar! Need to add that one to my collection at some point! Let me know how you're liking it! 😊
Man, please, wich are the pick ups uses in Andréa Lisa semi hollow D'Angelico?
Great video, trying to decide which one to buy. I cant see any explanation anywhere of the differences between the double cut versions and the single cut versions. Is it just an aesthetic thing or would the single cutaway versions sound a lot different? I really prefer the single cutaway look :(
Great video👍🏼

What is the difference in the play characteristics? Does a Premier play as well as an Excel? No-one covers this "minor" detail!
How much if a difference is there between the Excel dc and the mini dc tonally? A little tough to tell from the video.
is there a Deluxe Mini DC Guitar
Where’s an updated video with the excel dc tour?
Interesting note. You state the Excel DC has a Pau Ferro fingerboard, yet, Sweetwater describes as Rosewood. Had there been a change?
Can I put the stairstep tailpiece on my premier if the guitar original has a stop bar
That rose gold...B.E.A.U.T.I.FULL
If money was no object, how would you compare these to an ES 335? Great video.
Is the mini dc top heavy ??
I would love it if you compared the deluxe ludlow and the premier
The Ludlow was discontinued! RIP 😭😭
But smaller guitars always appeal a bit more to me
The excels are a bit more difficult to choose between.
Thanks a lot for your answer.
That prototype guitar’s color is really interesting, akin to Burgundy mist but not quite
Is there any differences like easiness or stiffness while bending strings on stop bar and stair step tail piece?
I wanted a nice semi acoustic with a double cutaway and almost purchased one of these but was offered a yamaha sa 500 which has turned out to be an excellent guitar but I'm gonna have to change out the pots and possibly the pups
when they make em in NY or the states and offer a nut width wider then 1 11/16 ill consider it.
Don´t play neck pickup sounds??
Beautiful guitars!
Made in japan or korea ?
I’m still stuck between the dc & the Prs Ce 24 semi-hollow
What about the Dangeliico DC with Seymour Duncan P,-90s?????
Do you reckon the excel is worth it? I love the finish options but the premier seems much more value for money, being half the price.
Both are great options! I love my excel. I play it more than any of my other guitars, it just has something special about it.
i like the excel.

Premier DC on order ;-)
What is the song you demoing in the video, sounds really great with the awesome guitars.
Kajima thanks! The song/track is just something I wrote for this video.
Smooth
Gotta say, the D Angelico guitars are really nice. That said, I wouldn't trade my Schecter Limited Edition in matte black with gold hardware and no Bigsby for any semi hollow at any price. It has a great neck and the sweetest ebony fretboard and cost me $500 used in mint condition. I bought a hard case and will someday upgrade to locking tuners and a set of Lollar Imperials. It is a desert island guitar. ❤
RUclips unsubscribed me brotha. I gave it back doe. Keep it up.
Cheers Dylan 🙌🙌
I have the mini dc excel. In black dog. Damned brilliant guitar.
For 799. GDP
I bought this. The dc excel in vintage burst because of you, be here Monday
Awesome! Please comment again and let us know how you like it! 😊
Awesome content my dude! Sub'd
Great review! The Excel series is drastically overpriced though. The Ibanez JSM10/20, As153 have mahogany variant necks, ebony fingerboard, premier fret edge contouring, included hard case, bone nut, for half the price. If you don't like the super 58s a set of Seymour Duncan's will still be a lot less.
i have the super 58s in my ar 325, and they're fantastically good.
Great comprehensive review. Entertaining and informative. Just annoyed every time you said romantic in reference to the roto matic Grover tuners.
I know, I know. Honest mistake. There were a lot of specs to read off!
