Minor correction at 7:48 If a meltdown occurs, the countdown drops to zero instantly, resulting in the Abnormality breaching (if able). Great video, I hope many more people try the game as a result of this.
Wow! I'm really happy to see people making reviews of Lobotomy Corporation in 2023. Makes me really proud to be able to have my hands in helping bring Project Moon's games to an English-speaking audience. From mentions in the video, I'm glad to assume that you enjoyed Library of Ruina as well. I know that Limbus Company will likely be to fewer people's taste given that it's a mobile-oriented game, but I hope you enjoy it to at least some degree. Thank you for making a review about this game! 🧡
I actually haven’t finished LoR yet, but I did get a decent way into it. I’m actually reading wonderlab right now, and will probably go back and pick LoR in the next couple weeks. I’ll probably read Distortion Detective after that. It won’t be for some time, but I think the next video I’ll do on the Project-Mooniverse will be more lore-centric. I’ve not really seen anyone make a proper timeline of events.
13:14 I will butt in and say that only Angela, Binah and Hokma experience/know about the time loops. Good review though, the more exposure to Project moon the better
i gotta correct you a bit.11:12, no, you cannot "just" finish day 50. You do have to complete the sephirot missions in their entirety, as there are checks on day 46, 47, and 48 to see if you have finished the missions yet
This truly is a certified Hod moment (awesome vid btw I've been looking for a good review to get some of my friends into the game and this is perfect, excellent work)
Everybody gangsta until the white bean finds the 12th apostle. Truly though, i was just going with the flow until Tiphereth story drops with the missions, then I got HOOKED. And the writing on the abnormalities just gets better the deeper you go into the game. "Oh so that's what it meant" "wait so that means this represents the other thing... and these other things are connected to this character...." When you mentioned the warning levels, I thought you'd show sneak peeks of the tracks, because they manage to do a great job setting the mood. Core Suppression themes too. Actually, Project Moon just did a great job with music all around, more so in the sequel. Hod is just doing her best. How could anyone hate her.
I agree that Library of Ruina has as good of a story as LOB, in fact I would argue it’s probably better structured, but what really propels LOB to my favorite game is the symbolism and it’s a real shame that you can’t really talk about that in a spoiler free review. As well as while rewatching the same cutscenes over again on a second play, though is very tedious (as par for the entire game) it also alludes to the fate of several characters, try to read day 1 with the context of A’s script and it really shows how he felt about “her.”
Great review I especially agree with the final conclusion about dropping the game 1/3 in because this is exactly what I did. I only came back half a year later to finish it and I really regretted that I dropped it.
Fascinating game, I was at first not a huge fan of the art style but upon realizing the art style has to do with the story that's genius, thanks for making this video I'm definitely gonna pick this up.
it's funny how I just discovered you last week with your "story generator" video that I have found very good. and suddenly you made a video about my FAVORITE GAME EVER! (in fact it's library of ruina, the sequel to Lob corp my favorite game ever but because it's the prequel it count!) sometime the stars align in a sublime way.
The kind of game where i pick once then never come back . Seriously not only A script 5d chess literal hell for characters, its purgatory for players. im glad i keep marching on for the story. Anyway your video are great, dunno why i forgot to sub when i was watching your story generators video .
Awesome review! I hope you're able to finish Ruina too, the end of it has quite the gauntlet (they like their difficulty curves verticle) but the story is beautiful.
One thing I might’ve missed I didn’t see you mention is the additional benefits of “memory repository”. Every 5 days there is a checkpoint where you can memory rep back. It keeps all ego, mission progress, and abnormality info you have gained so far, including the one you got that day before the day ends. You can do it anytime during the day before the day ends. It’s very useful for when you want certain abnormality gear but don’t want to keep it, or wish to finish missions before unlocking more of the facility. It’s explained in the Manuel, though I wouldn’t be surprised if anyone missed it, cuz I did and only found out when my friend who I recommend the game to plays it.
I didn’t go into detail on it, but I did mention a “checkpoint every five days” during the section regarding the necessity of needing to reset the facility. I feel like I knew about the repositories saving your progress, but I actually played the game in depth around a year ago. I started playing again specifically for this video around last week and simply forgot about that feature while making the video.
Ah, Lob Corp. Unfortunately (or fortunately), I ran into the Project Moon verse in the fan fiction sphere and got spoiled on pretty much the entirety of the plot so I just ended up moving on to Library.
You didn't need to do Enoch like that bro. Anyway, very cool and succinct summary of the game! I never beat this one, because I have yet to get the guts to actually reset all the way back. I only started the suppressions late into the run, and the idea of having to go all the way back is painful. Also, days 46-50 are fucking HELL.
Good video! I myself didn’t finish the game due to it being a bit hectic and ambiguous, but I really enjoyed its concept so maybe I would give it a second try in the future. Also, I suggest doing a video on inscryption. It seems like a game that would fit in your style of editing.
I had the impression I've played this game for 20h before dropping it but Steam says it was 6h in fact :p I really like the premise, tone and look of it but I think the way it stacks penalties, with the feeling that you don't really make much progress on your early runs, is really detrimental to new players. I'd say it leans more on the grindy rogue-lite side than the management sim side and that's what put people off. It's hard to recover from a breach in the first week and for a newcomer still learning the ropes getting annihilated on the first few runs is quite depressing. And when you start getting your head out the water and think this time you're going to last a bit, here comes the ordeals XD I may give it another try when I'm in a mood to overcome the frustration of early runs, thought.
4:39-4:56 is there any way to switch between the toon art style and Real arts style, or can it only change in specific events in the game? I instantly liked the Real style more than the more cartoony style.
At 8:50 I noticed in the top left corner that you've got the basemod modding tool installed. Mind sharing what you modded in? (Asking in case there's some QoL stuff you feel is worth adding in)
I actually only used it to get access to console commands to make production of the video easier. I backed up my primary save and used a fresh one for the production of this video. This was partially to do stuff like show off the research mechanic at 6:38.
i will not play this however i will watch the cutscenes and an story summary since the plots sounds interesting, almost makes me wish this game had a visual novel adaptation.
Most of the story pretty much is delivered via visual novel in between gameplay. Unfortunately most of the story summaries I’ve seen online are either pretty speculative because there’s layers of symbolism you can dig into or very fast-and-loose and full of memes. I’ve not really seen any story-as-written summaries. That said, I’m probably going to start a longer term project to do just that once Limbus Company comes out. It’ll probably be a couple months though before that comes out.
Also even if you don’t play Lobotomy Corp, you’d probably enjoy Library of Ruina. Strictly speaking Lobo corp isn’t required to understand the game, but having done so will certainly get you up to speed much faster.
@@buffatwo i don't like deck building games either--i play mostly fighting games and occasionally read visual novels, hence my wish for an adaptation. i do appreciate your attention though
Literally the first Abnormality shown to be worked with was the Queen of Hatred. One must imagine her happy. (And most of the time, she *might* be as such.)
Haha you did what I did. Spoiled mechanics (using a wiki for ordeals and at a certain point I just became impatient and for some core suppressions) while keeping myself in the dark narrative-wise.
I love that the long awful grind is technically cannon. I hate and love Lob corp. And when you get the true ending....its all worth it. Once. I hate day 49.
Correction: not every abno has a Qlithoph counter, some have none. That aside, you should have mentioned that the game is held together with gum and hopes. It has some very annoying glitches and, most importantly, it's terribly optimized. The main problem is that the game doesn't actually loop any music, it plays it again over and over without purging from memory (this is also why if you pause the game, the music doesn't play again until you resume). This eventually results in the game taking up all the memory and crashing. Also, the game ALWAYS renders everything even if it's offscreen. This is far less problematic early on, but once the facility gets big enough, the game will chug on weaker PCs. All effects like blood splatters and some abnormality leftovers also contribute to it since, again, they are always rendered until the day is finished and everything (except for BGM) is reset. Long story short, play the game with mods that fix optimization and certain bugs.
Eh, I am still quite disappointed in this game and see it as a miss. My ideal SCP-like game would be a crazy mix of Zoo Tycoon/Prison Architect, Evil Genius/Dungeon Keeper, X-Com and Rimworld.
