Thanks for coming to my city and eating at one of my favorite regular places- Katz's Deli. I have been eating here since I am a very young girl - now i am older and a senior citizen. I usually eat a Brisket and Turkey Combination sandwish with cole slaw and russian dressing on it on rye bread. I also have a potato KNISH (keh-nish) some fries, of course cole slaw, pickles and a Dr. Brown Celray Tonic soda!
I enjoyed the honest response about the pastrami about how she doesn't like fatty meat but this was an exception. I have a GF who grew up not eating fat on meat and all meat was well done. The first time I made prime rib for Christmas, the outer slice was medium at best and I gave it to her fat and all and figured she would take it over to the microwave and finish it. She started and the next thing I swear there were sparks coming off her knife and fork, and he dish was clean, Then she went over to the roast, which was now closer to medium rare, cut off a piece and ate it. She then said that it was the best beef she ever had. She was so used to unseasoned dried out meat that when she had flavor it blew her mind.
Fat plays a big part in the juiciness, tenderness and flavor of the meat ❤ I wouldn't take a bite of pure fat though.Alittle with your bite of meat is so good
It sounded like you were using a version of The Jam's "Start" as your background music - if so - well done. I'm half Welsh myself (my mom's side) - but I grew up in Central California - I also grew up listening to The Jam. Great band. I love Paul Weller. Anyway - i enjoyed a peek into your NYC trip - thanks for sharing it with us.
When Eastern European Jews immigrated to NY in the 19th century they played a big part in establishing their cuisine in the city by opening a number of delicatessens
I lived in NYC for 60+ years and never ate at Katz's Deli. I have seen lines of tourists going in there. Of the people I have known over my lifetime, only a small handful of them have been there either.
Olive/pimento cream cheese is my favorite sandwich ever, either on a bagel or thick pumpernickel bread. Homemade sourdough is a plus. It is so easy and cheap to make with a pack of Philly and a $3 jar of sliced pimento green olives. I put the olives on very thick over the Philly, leaving no space between them. Needless to say I have a pantry full of olive jars.
Back in the late '50s & early '60s, Kraft made that in little glass containers, with a metal cap, that you could reuse as small glasses. Yep, good stuff!
There must be a law in the UK that forbids the use of salt and pepper. I didn't see anyone use it on the potato salad. I can't imagine not using it on potato salad.
@@jreyman ... lol, I know. I've watched a lot of videos of Brits trying food in the US and I always think, they need a food guide, to show them how to eat our food. lol.
I believe the bagel is purposefully not cut through, entirely, and that there is a reason for it, perhaps it helps it stay together until you get to where you're going, since it's only wrapped in foil, but I'm not from the east coast, and you'll never find me in NYC, either. (I do not like being in a small city, let alone a massive city, like NYC. I'm from a wide open space, out west.)
GoogleTube definitely spies on me because I literally bought a 1/2 lb of pastrami at the grocery store a few hours ago, turn on my computer and THIS is at the top of my RUclips page. That said, I've seen plenty of videos on Katz's and although the quality of the meat looks phenomenal, it just looks like far to much of a good thing! I want a sandwich that is a harmonious balance of meat, cheese, bread and mustard, not just a massive stack of meat between two flimsy pieces of rye. You'd be better off if they just served that like a pot roast with a side of mash. It's like ordering a pizza and they give you a giant slab of pepperoni on a tiny half-dollar of crust with a dollop of sauce. Instead of a $30 sandwich I want the $12 version with 1/4 the amount of meat, two slices of Swiss and a healthy smear of mustard on bread that can hold its own. Far better sandwich! And I'll make 3 sandwiches out of my 1/2 lb. PS. The fact that they threaten tourists who are new to that chaos with a $50 "fine" if they don't have their ticket is disgusting.
That girl is gorgeous. Its the smile and eyes. Thats my brain..see pretty girl and sub. No wonder I was a member doh. Great places to visit. Always wanted to go to NYC. I watch live streams from there all the time and see all the sites....just cant taste that food Lordy.
So they give everyone a ticket when you arrive inside. When you order they write on your ticket what you ordered and you have to take the ticket to the register at the exit to pay before you leave! No ticket - $50 fine, even if you didn’t order anything! So keep that ticket safe 😅
@@CezandGaz Ahhh okay. Makes sense then. I didn't realize that THAT was when you actually pay. I've never been there (Obviously LOL), so I just assumed you paid for what you got when you ordered it. Thanks for the explanation.
They should change to what they do in Japan where you pay first and they give you a ticket. BTW they cannot force you to pay the fine but they will ban you if you don't pay

@@CezandGaz Yes, the fat is flavor, but not being cooked into flavorless dry shoe leather helps a lot, also.
I love Katz's Half sours (the bright green, lightly pickled cucumbers) and the Pastrami.

NICE! Really excellent choice of venues.

Great job
At the Brooklyn end of the Brooklyn bridge, look to your left and you'll see a diner on the street corner where they make fresh-squeezed lemonade.
I usually get extra bread and make smaller sandwiches.
Ah I wish we had thought of that!

Salt and pepper? I hardly know her!
Maybe it's seasoned already.
@@jamesmcbridenyc730 ... Maybe.
British food has a reputation of being bland, for a reason. They may have ran the spice trades, back in the day, but they've never used any of them.

That’s a lot of food for roughly 14 quid per person. Would have been more like 11 quid last month.
To be fair it did keep us full for quite a few hours!
they need to use thicker bread
Shall we start a petition? 😅
It is a “bit much” if you come from a tiny place.
if you do not like pastrami fatty, order it lean not juicy. and its best on a hero - hero holds the meat better. i am, a katzolic
$30? That's how much I get a month in food stamps in New Mexico.

Overrated tourist trap. The best pastrami in NYC is at Sarge's Deli on 3rd Avenue
Katz's is way better.
No, no it's not.
New York is expensive, got it. Looked tasty though.
Yep you’re right on both points 🤣
You’re paying for the location. It’s like sitting on South Beach.
That place is a rat infested hell hole. You've never seen such big rats until you go to New York.
Is this REALLY STILL an issue?!? OF COURSE IT'S NOT NOT NOT WORTH IT. Hello?!?!?
Damn, the triple negative 😅
@@CezandGaz It's REALLY not worth it. They sell exclusively to tourists. NO ONE in the neighborhood actually buys sandwiches at Katz. SERIOUSLY
$30 for that sandwich, are you out of your minds?
Potentially 🤔
