Good thing I watched this video. I bought this printer yesterday. Still in box. I'm returning it today.
Seriously, why would a printer require an ongoing internet connection?
I was gonna buy one because it was on sale on Amazon. Your video saved me from shooting myself in the foot
Masterful review. You covered other topics about this printer that other reviewers never even imagined to cover! This is the PERFECT product review channel in my humble opinion.
That first 7 minutes was so crucial. That information makes or breaks the buying decision. Amazing! Really appreciate it. The fact that you need a subscription to continue printing even if you have toner ink left is ridiculous and HP smartly doesn't mention that upfront in their site as well. Glad that I usually take weeks to buy something and take my time!
I believe this only applies to subscription provided toner cartridge. You can print without subscription if you buy your own toner.
@@McGraceland are you sure ?
This is one of the best reviews I've ever seen. It's not objective and to the point of the pros and cons of this printer. And the explanation of HP+ is spot on.
Thanks for your thorough review! Just received this printer at work and you answered all of my questions and more.
Printers are one of those areas where I think we could use some serious disruption. We have seen some “innovation” in recent years, and I really appreciate the choices we have these days, but I would love it if we could shift the culture around printers. I’m not smart enough to know what that would actually look like, but it seems just about everybody has complaints about either how their printer works, how hard it is to set up, how hard it is to replace ink/toner, etc.
Ink manufacturers also use clever tricks around the sensors to trick the printer that there is no ink, even if the cartridge still has plenty of ink left. Just because they want $$$$. Same with printers complaining about "non-genuine" ink cartridges.
You're very honest and up-front about the HP LASER JET M234DWE can do and can't, THANKS!
This was a really nice video! Thank you for sharing your time and good info :)
How many pages can I print with the first cartridge that is delivered with the printer?
exelent video thanks for all that good information you shering with us
And that's why I like my Brother color laserprinter. Costs a little bit more, but it's a multifunction device, has individual toner cardridges, works with any third party toner, and the toner is dirt cheap.
What model please
@Tournal Rakesh - What is the model of your printer? Thanks in advance.
Looks good, been using hp1022w for 15 years or so but the drivers are getting too old. Time to upgrade, but all the new lasers are a little bigger and don't have the room. Been waiting for a office re-model to make the space. Thanks anyway, it is on my short list.
Great review!
Hi there, that means after 6 month ,if we dont want to use hp+ ,or Subscription has been end ,we cannot use this printer anymore ?and we cannot use another toner ?thnx
how do i find the one that is not a +?
Do you film with an older camera on purpose? I love the 4:3 aspect ratio, the 1990's tv audio and décor! Beautifully done, just tell me it was on purpose :D
Just sharing with others...at my job in my office I have a need to print about 8500 pages a year and to buy a cartridge from like quill or somewhere I personally find a savings/value here so I'll be getting the 1500 pg's month plan with a $25 savings. Also...I use this with ink jet at home and if you haven't tried HP instant ink yet...the convenience is amazing...and in my opinion something worth even paying a little extra for.
so,,,, can we buy the NON plus version of this printer at all? if so, where?
The must have feature that finally made it to smaller hp printers is single pass duplex scanning and once you have it you will never want to go back to a flatbed
Great and honest review as always Lon. I haven't had a printer in probably 15 years but working from home I feel I need one. This is insane though. Requires an internet connection to use a printer?? I have never heard anything so ridiculous. No thank you. I can't stand HP anyway.
I have had several HP high end small office printers, always dropping off the network etc. I've had 2 mid-range Brother printers that stay on the network, always work. I don't think I'll ever consider another HP product for a small or mid-sized office situation.
I bought a Brother all in one back in 2015. I'm still on the starter cartridge. :) I scan stuff even less often. I'll probably buy another one next year (or two years). I always buy the mfg. toner, so I would likely buy the HP but no subscription.
When programa of scanner is
So if i sign up for the lowest cost subscription plan, it will initiate remotely to my printer's cartridge to function. Now if the cartridge ran out of ink, HP+ will ship me the ink cartridge free? or do I have buy that $50 cartridge from retailer? Also, if I opt with buying the $50 cartridge from the store, HP+ can't police how much I print right? but they still monitor if I use a genuine HP cartridge product but can't control my own usage since I purchased it for $50 right? I hope I am understanding this correctly. Sorry I am new to all of this modern printing machine.
Yes they’ll monitor and ship you a cartridge when it runs low as part of the plan. They won’t monitor page prints if you buy your own cart vs the subscription.
With NSA special features built in! ;)
Lon I'm able to print and scan at 600 dpi
Overage fees is a turn off.
Many times I had to reprint something because of garbage or it wasn’t formatted the way I see it on screen.
The roll over has a max number and the monthly rates avoids the likely 200 - 300 pgs per month.
Otherwise, it would be a no brainer.
Looking at Brother and not Pantum(China) also.
Choice is limited and may have to bite it and buy the HP.
May be a good printer but the compromises you need to go through if you decide to buy the HP+ makes me feel like I am not buying a printer, is like I am renting it.
Requires constant internet connection, Requires original HP toner, Requires pay subscription, Requires an HP account....This is no longer a printer; this is a pay to print subscription service.
You know you're bored when you're watching a review on a printer. Is this the new way of "watching paint dry?" I just like having something on in the background, but I have to wonder about the rest of you. XD
It’s funny the printer reviews are the highest performing things I do on the channel !
@@LonSeidman Okay, that is funny! I would understand if it were neat gadgets or the latest laptops but, printers?! I have to wonder, why so much interest?
I have no interest in printers. I only watch these because it's Lon
@@gravijta936 The initial interest is so-so but over time it's huge due to search. There aren't many people reviewing printers so I'm the only game in town for some of these products.
Great review! Not so great printer, IMO. HP screwed up with limiting the plus version to HP toner cartridges, forcing always on internet connection AND fording you to use their app.
Due to all this, I'm going for Brother DCP-L2537DW instead. It does lack an ethernet port, but does have a decent wifi, I hear.
HP+ requires an internet connection to print anything? I mean, I get that the upfront savings might still be worth it for many; but, eww...
@Tano - Yeah, I guess if you have a really reliable ISP, it could make sense. I do: excluding power outages, maybe 3 or 4 short internet outages over the last 10 years. Even so, if I really want to print something but can't simply because my otherwise perfectly capable printer isn't able to 'phone home' just to get permission from HP, I'm pretty sure it's ending up at the bottom of a lake somewhere.
WOW... I don't like being FORCED to purchase HP toner... and FORCED to have internet... I will never buy any HP product again... thank you very much for the warning about HP.
When I was kid by using wifi mobile printing as come
Why on earth am i looking at a printer review
Not many people using this at home are going to use a lot of cartridges.
why are printers STILL a rip off? computers have gotten better but printing STILL seems to want to nickel and dime you to death. Thanks for the video.
who else tried to move their mouse at 1:14?
This printer is fine the 20% of the time it works. It needs to be reconnected to the wi fi everytime I try to use it. I get the "install drivers" all the time even though the drivers were clearly installed because it printed before. It wastes paper printing out reports saying that it is connected to the wi fi while the message in the "HP Smart" is that it is offline.
The instructions that it comes with are two useless pages in three languages. In desperation I read the Spanish instructions and they are the same useless instructions as the English.
I feel that there is a great printer behind all this drama, but better instructions are a start.
It is a piece of junk. It's nothing but trouble. I wish I had bought a better one.
@Donna Cooper After months of studying it, I finally got it to work well. However, it is still not okay that it is not easy to operate. I still have it, but that is because I could not afford to toss it.
Cheaper cartridges all the way
The whole HP+ thing doesn't read as long term convenience to me but rather long term hassle.
Too much money for too much hassle and too little quality.
Buy a mid tier model. Buy an extra toner cart and put in the closet for the inevitable day the first one kicks right when you need it at 2am. Live your life thinking about other things.

RUclips me recomendó esto, alguien más se lo recomendó? Jajaja
They claim to be "environment friendly", but at the same time the toner that comes with it must likely be thrown out after 6 months for people that print below 800 pages a month since it's no reason to pay the monthly fee and cheaper to buy a new toner in the long run. Even when the toner isn't empty, HP has gone too far.
That HP+ subscription is a NO for me.
Never buy an Inkjet printer, ever!
HP gone downhill. Looking for Laser with low surge on start up. So it doesn't pop circuit when a 1500A heater is on same circuit
This is the worst deal I have ever seen!
Don't buy, need subscription
Doesn’t work unless you are connected to the internet and connected to your account. Nope. HP should go out of business.
Hp+ looks like a scam
printers are a scam
These active subscription printers are a total ripoff...stay away from them.
I have a very reasonable Brother laser printer which runs rings around this crappy HP!
Nuff said.
I just ordered a Brother laser printer. It's the HL-L8360CDW and am expecting it on Thursday. It doesn't scan or copy but I have an all in one ink jet to do that. I'm looking forward to start using it!
