Hi Rachel, in 2023 (long after you posted this video) we had 2 floods that hit my garden both times. The first was in July, and trashed a good part of VT, and the second one was in December, and it swamped my garlic. I figured my garlic was a loss, because it literally was covered in water, then it all froze into a solid mass. Well, spring rolled around, and lo and behold, my garlic poked its little green shoots up, and started growing. It LOOKED OK, but I still figured it was going to be damaged. I dug that garlic up in end of July, 2024, and it is absolutely fine, a little on the small side but many very respectable heads. Plants can take a lot--they want to grow and live! I bet your tomatoes were just fine. Thank you for this video! 🍅
We grow our lettuce in a aqua garden inside all year. Love it, I eat fresh salad greens almost every day of the year!! So I don’t even bother to grow it outside anymore!! But I do like your idea of high intensity planting it, if I were to grow it outside!!!
I love it! Really happy with our purchase. There's a discount code if you're serious about getting one 😋 Get $10 Off your order, when you purchase a vertical planter. Use coupon code: shop1870 lddy.no/kpa6
Please show how you use all the fresh herbs! The chickens came up close to you when you were cutting greens, Too funny!! Anxiously awaiting my stacking planter!! Woo Hoo!
Your garden looks amazing ....water and all.... However, I understand your concern as last season I lost my entire garden 3 times to flooding. Ron and I worked real hard to correct and build it up and this season is much much better. It takes time but I almost gave up last season. But a good cry, encouragement from Ron and we started again and I am so glad we did. Happy Gardening Friend.
Tadaa! Back on my tiny island in the Atlantic, can comment and read everything just fine. Your enthusiasm makes me smile and you put so much energy coupled with joy into your beautiful gardens. Catherine from Canada 🇨🇦
Beautiful harvest. Sorry your having to deal with all of that water. We've had rain like that for the past 5 years but so far this year, we are begging for rain. Finally got a few drops today so that was nice.
Oh, such a nice harvest of lettuce 🥬 mine is just a little behind yours in growth. Spinach is just starting second set of leaves. I had the same problem with my garden with sitting in water. My garlic 🧄 suffered. I made all my garden raised beds now. It’s so much work! And so rewarding! Have a great Memorial weekend.
Awesome video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I have only recently started harvesting leaves instead of plants (always have for silverbeet (chard) and spinach, but for lettuce this is a new much more productive method. Having watched this video, I will harvest the leaves much earlier. I tended to wait until they were a small adult plant as was worried they wouldn’t recover if I did them sooner. I am a new subscriber so will definitely be looking back at your previous videos. Thank you. Oh! You just mentioned kombucha! Maybe you have a kombucha video!
So crazy I did the same thing with my herbs when I first started. Now I’m trying to cut as much as possible all season for drying and preserving more. ☺️
My favorite thing to grow is herbs!!! I know all about losing cutting tools...I leave them everywhere! I find using a scissor makes it easier to snip away at herbs...especially early on since they tend to very tender. So sorry about your garlic...hope it weathers the storm and it drys out fast. Great mid Harvest!
I tried what you’re calling high intensity gardening with lettuces in a couple of containers this year. I’m super impressed with how they’re doing! I got the idea from the Migardener on RUclips. Keep up the great work!
What's the best way you find to keep the greens once harvested? After cleaning, do you let dry and then store in fridge in a special way? And do you have a kombucha video?? Happy gardening...rain or shine :0)
Have you been spying on us? Stay tuned, I already have video scheduled to come out Sunday on keeping greens fresh and a kombucha one scheduled for tomorrow 😆 But I do have a complete kombucha playlist until then
Oh my all the wetness! I love your garden areas, it’s beautiful. Do you not have any issues with critters in your garden? Praying for soft winds to dry up the fallen rains!
Every now and then I'll get a squirrel in there digging up looking for something, I used to get rabbits all the time nesting in my Strawberry beds, but haven't had that problem since we put the fence up
Rachel- I need to ask what are your temps there at the moment as you look like you are in cold temps & that is what I am coming into in Brisbane Australia & have some fabulous cold weather plants I am harvesting. Cheers Denise - Australia
We took all the basil and pureed it with some olive oil and put in a muffin cup to freeze. When we make anything Italian we will throw it in with it. The mint I use in a my drinks throughout the week. Oregano in Italian or Mexican dishes. Lemon balm I'm just dehydrating for teas right now
I harvested my lettuce the other day and it had the most awful taste 🤮 and I can't figure out why or what I did wrong...I'm a first Gardener and everything is growing beautifully but so far my lettuce tasted yucky and my Basil tasted like soap...😞😂😞 Sad but funny ...not giving up yet!
I am located in Nashville , zone 7a , I planted it in feeding trough with some other things, but it was a "disc" seed paper? ( A lot of seeds already spaced for you in a disc shaped product, basically you place the disc on soil then lightly put soil on top and it's ready to go 🙄) I honestly think that was my first mistake, buying already made seeds in paper 😂 ....
@Melissa Peltier lol you would think that but it's not, it's definitely Basil, it's a beautiful plant and o my does it smell so good , the taste is good at first bite then you get this pow of soapy taste...it's planted all by itself and I'll rub my hand over it just to smell that sweet smell ...but my heart was broken when I tried it the other day along with my beautiful lettuce , which almost has a nutty taste ?? It's just so bizarre to me 🤔

I do the same thing with my turnips. I LOVE their greens and it seems to make the turnip bulbs grow bigger, too.
I love the birds singing in the background
Look at all your chickens coming to visit you
Lemmon balm has to be my favorite fragrance

You could put in field tiles and it will help drain the water.
Yes we could 😂
I would like to have one of those planters !!! Awesome herb planter !!! 👍,,,,

Wow! Great minds really do think alike. LOL! Lovely video. All of my basil has been eaten by bugs. I will have to go to the nursery to get some.
Crazy
So glad I saw this video- I’ll harvest some leaves of my spinach and lettuce tomorrow :-)
Yes!
That's how we plant our lettuce and greens too. Great reward for little work!
Right!

Things for the most part are bouncing back from the water. All except for the garlic - still has yellow tips on the leaves. Hopefully it'll be ok.
A good first harvest from your garden and around the grounds of your house too.
It sure was
I will be planting my lettuce and spinach today so glad to know abut early harvest!
Awesome just sprinkle away to your hearts content

You too!!
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing, Rachel! I prefer high intensity sowing lettuce, spinach and kale, as well. We are able to harvest many times in a season. -Cyndi
That was a big bowl of awesome!
Oh I should have titled the video that!
😂😂😂😂😂

Oh dear I've lost more scissors than I can count
I just got my first salad harvest too! Cut some garlic and onion greens to add! It was soooo good!
Awesome! Are you storing it like this? ruclips.net/video/dDsrJT4KuiM/видео.html
Love this time of year! What a beautiful harvest. Enjoy the spinach while it lasts it looks like some hot weather is coming!!

Awesome I call those salad bowls!
Beautiful harvest! I have gone to mounded beds in my garden, you might want to try it to help with the flooding.
I think you're right 👍
It should dry out this weekend in Michigan. I was finally able to mow last night because of the rain.
Yes, followed by 6 days if rain here 😂

Can you add the link to your chive dressing recipe?

Feel free to send some of that rain to Texas! 😉👍
Looks like they are predicting a bad hurricane season, so I'll hold off sending it your way you may end up with too much 🙏
Don’t see the chive dressing recipe?
Rachel- I need to ask what are your temps there at the moment as you look like you are in cold temps & that is what I am coming into in Brisbane Australia & have some fabulous cold weather plants I am harvesting. Cheers Denise - Australia
Right now lows in mid to upper 50s highs anywhere from upper 60s to high 70s
I’d love to know what you use each herb for!

Where are you located? What type of lettuce? I can't stand my lettuce after the heat gets to it, really turns bitter.
