LOL. Although not the point of this video, still felt the need for a retraction. I'll do better fact checking next time.
Do you think the guy who invented the Bloody mary just ran out of supplies and looked in his pantry and just thought "eh why not put these things together".
I love that you actually gave all the measurements in proper units! I tend to be a control freak and love being able to replicate and tweak things with precision, rather than the 'dash of this' approach
Definitely the best recipe I’ve come across so far. After a few I added a 1/4 tsp of celery seed & an 1/8 tsp of Carolina reaper salt to the spice mix & 4-5 dashes of Tabasco to the tin. Absolutely legendary now. Thanks!!
When I worked at restaurant last summer we used to make premix - tomato juice and Italian mashed tomatoes (like "Pomi"or smth) in 50/50 proportion. It was real good, a little dense, but after some rollin' it becomes perfect. And also we had a BBQ Mary, almost the same as classic, but with bacon infused vodka. Maybe some of you would like it
In the bar I work the people in the kitchen makes the garnish for or bloody marys, I request it once I see the order gets in and I usually have time to make a couple drinks before I finish
Have you ever made or heard of the Caesar? It's a similar cocktail in Canada, but exclusively not really heard of outside of Canada. Essentially it's a Blood Mary but the tomato juice is substituted with tomato clam juice.
Yes but I don't want to use Motts Clamato which is going to single me out for the hatred of every Canadian but I am testing some house made Tomato/Clam juice. If I can't get a better one I'll relent and do it original style.
Hey Leandro, homemade or store bought tomato juice for Bloody Mary's? I've read that homemade doesn't work well in this drink but would like your opinion. Thanks!
I do both, usually RW Knudsen brand. But if I make from scratch I use both fresh and canned tomatoes, citric acid and sea salt to equate the flavor of store bought LOL. Just use good quality store bought juice.
If you like this you should try the Bloody Caesar, don't know if you have Clamato in the USA or any clam and tomato juice but it's notch above. Def check it out
Cool vid, love the drink. Mary Tudor was Henry VIII’s sister. She died from illness, not beheading. Henry loved his sister and named his first daughter Mary in her honor. This Mary was the one referred to as “Bloody Mary” by Protestants because she oppressed them as a Catholic. She also died of illness, not beheading.
Tuco Pacifico I was referring to his daughter. I posted a correction in the community tab. I’m better at cocktail history than British Royal History I guess
Depending on how salty you like your drink and/or garnish, I find that one or two stalks of pickled asparagus make a delightful garnish for a Bloody Mary.
I put in a half oz of fresh squeezed lemon juice and nix the lime. I only put fresh cracked pepper and nothing else for spices or seasoning. I put in traditional beautiful Tabasco sauce for that ingredient. Everything else is what is above. Makes a perfect Bloody Mary cocktail. I also only use V-8 Vegetable Tomato juice and you will be surprised how that flavor pops this drink. Cheers.
I'd love your opinion(s) on this. My first restaurant owner introduced me to Bloody Mary's without Ice. That was nearly 20 years ago and I've never looked back and that's how I order by Bloody Mary's ever since.
Me too!!! Keeps the tomato nice and thick! I am the only one though everyone I’ve made it for likes it to taste less like food and more a drink lol 😂 Anyways, I won’t be going back to the iced version. I also add a little more spice to mine… yum!
My secret ingredient when I batch this off at work by the gallon is a rocks glass of Guinness. Adds some smoothness so it’s not so much tomato sauce and vodka. Cheers!
That's an interesting idea, although I can't see that flavour combination being very good. The roasted malty notes of the Guinness don't clash with the tomato juice? Or do the flavours of the Guinness just get lost in the Bloody Mary, leaving only the smoothness? I mean, beer and Clamato juice is a pretty popular hangover cure where I'm from, so maybe there's something to that.
@@colina1330 I can see the bitterness of the Guiness melding in nicely as for the roasted maltiness if you do a rocks glass into a full batch of bloody mary mix I'm assuming at least a quart a lot of those flavors will get lost.
Colin A yeah it doesn’t add any notable taste. It’s more so for texture because of the nitro. I also go fairly heavy on Worcestershire because I like a savory mix. Our rocks glasses are 10 ounces so it’s not a ton.
Here's my preferred amendment to this great beverage. 1. Forget the Lime juice ( it tastes awful) - 2. Forget the Horse Radish ( It really f**ks it up). 3. Put the Tomato Juice and the Vodka in the fridge and don't bother with the Ice. So - my recipe is - 1. One part vodka. 2. Two parts Tom Juice. 3. Cholula sauce (personal amount). 4. Worcester sauce (1%). Lemon Juice (1%). 5. Ground pepper. 6. Season with salt if desired. Drink, whilst listening to Led Zeppelin, Yes or ELP LOL
In Canada we go with the Caesar (Canada's Unofficial National Drink), essentially replacing tomato juice with Clamato juice. Also a good alternative for garnishing is a spicy pickled bean
This drink is indeed hard to 'get right'. Can you please advise on tomato juice? Was this fresh, and if not, any recommendations on which brand to try? Cheers!
Ian Holmes fresh tomato juice is not the greatest in this drink. In fact I like to use RW Knudsen tomato juice which contains sea salt, Lemon and water. If you want to create your own fresh juice mix 3 freshly juiced tomato’s with 1 can canned tomatoes and blend in a blender then add spices.
Marius was definitely right because that was bothering me too haha. This sounds quite a bit spicier/hotter than my usual recipe, so I'm going to try this next time!
I just mixed up your version, and it was a very good Bloody Mary. Over on the right where other videos were listed when yours was playing was RUclipsr The Anne Boleyn Files and Tudor Society 's video February 18 - Happy Birthday Queen Mary I. So, I clicked on it and watched it whilst sipping on a Bloody Mary. That seemed quite appropriate.
Tomato juice is really not for me, but I can see how people would like this drink. But I gotta say, the thing I absolutely love is those over the top garnishes people do with this drink. For tutorials it would be nonsense to add that, but in like a bar or something I think those garnishes are amazing!
Can you tell me anything about the flavour profile of the Cholula hot sauce? I'm not sure if I'll be able to find that one specifically here in Germany.
Michael Sear honestly it’s just hot sauce that I prefer, it has a citrusy vinegary aftertaste I really enjoy, I’m sure you could get it shipped by Amazon, no? If not any hot sauce you prefer would do
When I'm not feeling too hot from the night before and I'm going for round two the night after, I almost always start things off with a couple of Caesars (which is the Canadian version of a Bloody Mary, made with Clamato) to bring myself back to life. I love horseradish with mine, but I like to kick it up a level with some habanero hot sauce. I also like to rim my glass with lime juice and celery salt.
You probably don´t read comments on old videos like these but I think a Bloody Mary needs black pepper to really shine. @@TheEducatedBarfly Wikipedia tells me the bar in Calgary that invented the drink originally used tomato juice that they added the clam broth to themselves. The premixed Caesars are pretty gross though. I would say just go for it. You could even do a side by side taste test of one made with Motts vs your own.
I learned pretty much the same except: Celery salt instead of spice mix.
