One interesting fact, the writer/director had a close friend pass away from ALS, and that influenced the details of the wolf transformation - slowly losing your ability to hear, speak, write, etc… it was a degenerative disease like ALS. I do like that thought was put into it and that it wasn’t that quick transformation in all the other werewolf movies.
Yeah, you can tell it's an allegory for inherited sickness. And I thought that angle was refreshing. Story-wise it reminded me of a horror version of Ang Lee's Hulk.
Ha, good flick. If you connect it to what Adam is saying in this video, American Warewolf had young men in it, and male nudity, so if it were released today, the horny moms would swarm to it! LMAO.
Weirdly my main problem with that movie is the werewolf design as well, but it's a much better crafted movie all around. Better transformation scenes. Better kills. Memorable weird AF dream sequences. Dark comedy. This movie is just forgettable. I tend to prefer designs like in The Howling or even The Wolfman 2010
I don't know, but after a Nosferatu movie that didn't technically have the classic Nosferatu character in it, I really didn't want to waste my money on a wolfman movie that didn't have an actual wolfman in it.
@@Neon_Dion It was not. I know not everything likes the movie but it does so many things objectively well that I don’t understand how you bask it on the same level as someone like madame web or tarot. I would use your words to describe those movies.
It's got some interesting ideas, like how the werewolf is actually a DISEASE that you just don't get better from, the whole movie taking place over the course of a single night and the "werewolf vision" thing, but otherwise, it's.....a slow burn body horror?
After seeing the razzi nominations I had to check out your megalopolis spoiler review and it was hilarious 😂 not sure I’ll ever see it but at least we got your review
I saw the trailer when I saw Nosferatu. It felt like the trailer gave away the whole movie, which is something I've hated about trailers in recent years. I wasn't intrigued at all.
They tried to make a "sexy" werewolf/Beauty and the Beast, in 1990 called Meridian, full with amorous werewolf/human bedroom scenes. It was a huge commercial and critical failure and almost has no fans, cult or otherwise.
I watched this. I didn't pay for it. I still want a refund. The acting was crap. The female lead was horrible and now I know her portrayal of Silver Surfer will be just super. As for a movie with the name Wolf Man... I think they forgot to put a wolf in it. What the hell was that?
It highlighted a slow transformation while having crappy visual transformation. If they would have really nailed the transformation by having him actually transform into a frightening cool looking werewolf and not a cracked out hobo it would have succeeded.
Someone on Reddit said that the wolf man design looks so much similar to Resident evil village wolf men. That’s all I could see this design as. It’s sad to see this movie go this way :/
2025 is not going to be a good year for horror, I’m already seeing that now. We ended 2024 with Nosferatu, a complete waste of my time and then we opened the new year with this, literally a “monstrosity”
Why release a wolfman movie in January? It seems like it should be October/Halloween type fare. And I'm wondering why they don't gender-swap here for wolfwoman movie which could be funded by Nair product placement.
I'm one of those weirdo horror fanstics, who loves the effects and gore. I would say your summation is a bit reductive. This movie was a massive disappointment. This felt slapped together. I don't need a sexy werewolf, I need a werewolf that looks frightening and feral.
We are in agreement there. The movie didn’t provide a werewolf. I pointed that out towards the end. The video was basically just pointing out how easily the cops have corrected the box office. Either go all in on the horror or make it sexy. Nosferatu pretended to do both in the advertising
Wolf is so great and underrated. Frankly, I found that a more beautiful and convincing man / beast romance than Twilight. Michelle Pfeiffer and Jack Nicholson have great charisma
