Helicopter Emergency Procedures Training - Robinson R44

- Join me on my 6th lesson in a Robinson R44 Raven 2!
Today we'll be practicing 4 different types of emergencies and learn how to manipulate the controls in these situations. As my instructor Bjorn says, this might be the most fun part of learning how to fly a helicopter.
1:55 Hydraulic failure= Most helicopters use hydraulics to reduce the force needed to move the controls. When you loose hydraulic pressure, you'll have to fly the aircraft using much more force to move the controls. This makes handling more difficult.
6:32 (electrical) Governor failure= A governor is a device or system which controls engine power output such that the main rotor maintains a constant RPM. When the pilot raises collective, putting more pitch on the blades, and thus increasing the power required, the governor system would add more fuel to the engine such that the extra power required is exactly balanced by extra power output. The result is that even though power required goes up and down, the rotor RPM remains constant. During a governor failure you have to control the RPM's yourself, which becomes quite difficult when you need to land.
11:15 Stuck pedal= when you are unable to move the pedals and manipulate the tail rotor. This means manipulation around the vertical axis must be done with power (torque)
14:32 Autorotaion= simulated engine failure.
A condition of helicopter flight during which the main rotor of a helicopter is driven only by aerodynamic forces with no power from the engine. It is a manoeuvre where the engine is disengaged from the main rotor system and the rotor blades are driven solely by the upward flow of air through the rotor.

75.5K nine months later!
Yes, me too, she is always in a good mood. Your laugh is so wonderful. Greetings from Switzerland.
NO ! There is no way I would fly with her as PIC !.. she is simply not good enough or competent enough. The next you tube tart fatal crash waiting to happen.
What a fantastic instructor Bjorn is, what a pleasure it would be to be thought by him, great flying, really enjoying the content.
I had the opportunity to fly an R44 on a quick flight through the mountains of Montana. Made me want to sell everything I own and give up fixed wing flying! What an amazing experience and I'm glad to see you documenting your own journey.
wow that must have been a beautiful flight!! I'm really happy that I can share this journey through this channel :)
Bambi, remarkable young lady with tons of talent. Nice job.
Hi Bambi, I had my very first training flight (here in South Australia) in a Raven 2 two day ago and what a thrill. I'll be watching all your vids as I'm super keen to follow in your footsteps to going solo in about 6 months (as my budget affords me one lesson a week - lol).
You are such a nice person and a very passionate and skilled pilot. Always interested in new things and open minded. Thank you for this great video.
This is so sweet of you, thanks for the support. Means alot to me :)

@@dannymccoy1783 well that was a load of waffling
@@Th3Butcher76 have no clue wat u talking about
Hi, you're an absolutely gifted pilot. So inspired. I can already see how you will use the heli skills for good causes. Thank you.
Thankyou so much for your kind words, so sweet!
Haha. Instructor” the helicopter is still in one piece”. Good job Bambi. Always fun to watch your progress.
Haha well he isnt wrong! Thankyou 😁
Pilot Bambi I have been flying and teaching only helicopters for 32 years. You are doing brilliant. Great Instructor you have.
used to love emergency procedures, uk with stuck pedal low running approach, extend index finger and use throttle to control yaw / direction , finger is to point in the direction of turn, close throttle left open right, then running landing, job done, sadly not flow for years but still remember what to do. Did my conversion at Heliair Denham with ‘Q’, good luck with the training, love the videos.
I found your channel by accident. I have subscribed to your channel. Thanks for sharing your learning to fly a helicopter. Thanks so much Billy
did a good job, never done a hydraulics off landing my self, but that's because I'm r-22 guy. but your calmness as a flight instructor is astounding. you can definitely tell you weren't trained in the states. all of us are super on edge.
This is a wonderful flying Bambi by this helicopter Robinson R 44. You are my best pilot Bambi
Awesome video as always, Rosita!! Let's add helicopters to the growing list of your achievments!! Love it!! Thanks for posting, and see you for the next one!! Be safe!!
Thanks for your support!! I'm so happy I get to share my flying adventures through youtube. All the best to you :)
@@PilotBambi Thanks, Rosita!! You as well!!
Great job Bambi!! Emergency procedures, keep you from falling out of the sky and meeting the ground gently, when you do!!
Thanks!! Let's hope we keep it to practicing them!
I remember the 11.0 hour point in my primary helicopter training, I solo’d at that point. Enjoying your posts! You look like a good helo pilot. Well done. Thank you for sharing.
wow well done, that's awesome!! Unfortunately I can only go solo once I have the minimum of 20 hours dual, but it's fun nonetheless! happy to hear that you enjoy my videos
The trifecta of aviation, powered, glider and now helicopter !!!
Once I got my solo license I would fly to Holiday Health Spa in Huntington Beach, Ca. They had a helipad on top of the building and what a chick magnet. I sure miss the 80's. Great tower communication skills Bambi. That was the hard part to learn in Southern California with so much air traffic. back then it was 500 hours for Commercial pilots License and Life Flight wanted 2000 hours in a bell jetranger. Good luck and go for it all!!
Missing your videos right now, they are the best ! You clearly have so many things going on apart from youtube , but I am still looking forward to see more adventure ☺️ all the best from a future pilot in Canada :)
You name it, Bambi fly's it. Well done. Success is in your hands. Greetings.
Thanks for your support!!
Great Video Bambi. Please stick with your training and finish your Heli rating, if you complete your Heli training you will be able to go anywhere in the world and get a job and name your salary. A world of opportunities awaits you as a Heli pilot, good luck, can't wait to see your next Heli video.
Hello, that's absolutely incredible.😮 You are very handy. Realy fine work. You have my deep respect. 🙏 By the way - very nice jeans😉😀
Really nice images, good music and audio balance, damn cool instructor and best smile of the skies. You rock Bambi !
Great job, beautiful day out flying, great instructor
Hey @Pilot Bambi, I recently discovered your channel. You are doing a great job sharing your passion for aviation. Learned a lot in this video on the Emergency Procedures in the R44. Looking forward to your new videos.
Always a pleasure to watch your uplifting videos.
Thankyou!! So happy you enjoy my videos :)
OMG!! Much respect to you! I have about 210 hrs TT, and about 5 hours in a R44 and I just couldn’t get used to not flying the standard airplane traffic pattern or an instrument approach to land. I’d love to learn to fly a helicopter but I’m too used to pressing right rudder when adding power vs left pedal😂.
Thanks William! It took some getting used to at the start, and in some things you can still see that I'm a fixed wing pilot at heart haha!
Nice flying but you have also a very good instructor. He is explaining things very well not only to you, but also for the viewers.
Boyfriend as cameraman in the back seat? And left him in Hoogeveen on the ground for the outside shots, in between....
He really is a great instructor!! We only left him on the ground shortly haha! In return for all his help, I gave him a helicopter lesson for his birthday :)
@@PilotBambi Well, then he got a good deal! Only risc that it can become an expensive present when he likes it as much as you do and wants more ....
Pilot Bambi is on her way to Stevo1Kinevo status. Subscribed...keep the videos coming!!!!!
haha thanks man!!
The instructor seems like Adam Sandler doing a voice. lol. Great video Bambi
Sweet, new video time! I may be wrong, as I have never flown, but the helicopter looks like it takes a different set of skills and hand-eye coordination that flying a plane. Not saying that one is "easier" per se, but that they look to utilize some different skills. Well done!
It definitley took some getting used to, but it's amazing to learn a new skill. I do realize that I have to be waaay more focussed at all times. The margin for error is even smaller for rotor flying than for fixed wing.
At 10 hours - amazing! I always over-controlled a bit on setting down too. Solo soon.
Thanks!! I'm really excited for solo, but still have quite some things to learn :)
Wow love your videos asual the instructor was very impressed with your flying skills and knowledge when you finish you could fly anything including a paper plane
Running landings and then no power landings are fun. One day your instructor will turn off the copter and take the key without you knowing he's going to do it, be ready Bambi. I'm retired now but loved the R22. In all my years flying, I had one emergency landing in a schoolyard and lets just say..Watch out for hawks during the Spring, they think your a bird in their territory.
I Like you'r Video's. I'm training in a R44 as well. Fligh the Schweitzer300C there you do NOT have a governor, through the Whole Flight You have to ajus motor RPM manualy... Great machine to fligh. You don't climb in it, You put it on..
Very calm and experience of age will come. Keep it up!
It's nice to see the airfield that i fly from, If I knew that you were coming to Hoogeveen I would've came and filmed your take offs and landings and took a selfie with you!
Great SI Auto! What difference the 44 has with regard to a high inertia rotor system. Fly safe!
Your videos are great, would like to see you flying in Australia one day
EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
1. Cancel the cheque you gave them.
2. Hospitalise the Asshole who tried to sell you a Death Trap.
3. Join the "" CLASS ACTION"" to sue the manufacturer.
4. Rip up your Pre Paid Funeral Plan. ( I'm pretty sure they all come with one)
5. Buy a boat, and live long enough to Retire.
6. Spend $ 650,000 on yourself.
Ten hours looking into emergencies is incredible even given she’s a very experienced fixed wing pilot. You need the talent she has.
Gliders, fixed wing planes and now helicopters. Next month Bambi will be getting into the left seat of a A380. Big hugs again from Port Elizabeth.
Haha we'll see what the future holds!! I'm excited to learn how to fly many more different types of planes. :)
Helicopters are neat.
Well done 😃
Nice✅ flying the 44 like a pro!
Thankyou!!
Pilot Bambi I flown a 44 in NYC, it was an amazing trip.
Wow that Fish Eye view is a wee bit weird and I find it scary and want to reach for the controls, bad passenger that I am. Great job and great video and very entertaining. Regards, Jim in NI UK
Haha yep the 360 cam can be a bit disorienting! Happy you enjoyed the video Jim
Another great flight!
this is so cool!! great flying!
when do you spin circles and nose dive? 🚁♥️
The video was epic, great job girl 👍😎
Thanks!!
Bambi first of all it’s a great great great video. And I was wondering when you lifted off for the first time, no body was there in the passenger seat but just before landing where did he appear from? I was looking for if the guy was sitting behind your seat initially but I couldn’t see him😋
She's a natural, I want to see her fly everthing from biplanes to jets.
Thanks for the support!!
I think people would like to watch you do anything tbh. I'd like to see you fly to vacation spots and do stuff.
Space Shuttle is next. I think she could do it with no problem. So willing to learn = great achiever!
Anyone notice that guy appearing on the backseat at 1:35 and disappearing at 3:30 😅
Is it Maurits? At 18:20 he reappears.
So interesting!
Leuk je even bezig te hebben gezien op EHHO toen ik met de JMP terugkwam :)
Love hydraulic failures, During my CPL exam the examminer just laughed when we switched them off and i just strong armed the helicopter down. Was not exactly what he was after but it "was not textbook, but it worked"
Good work on your training, whats the end goal?
Good job ,
I find it useful to do so pullups, hanging from the bar and push ups, to build up that forearm and tendon strength,
Atm I'm on the R22 so no hydraulic failures to happen yet.
Im a complete novice right now but so re hydrolics what can be done preflight to clarify that the hydrolic system is functioning adequately?
Hey @pilotbambi I just started lessons in an r44 and would love to document the process to getting my commercial licence. How do you get such great footage?. What camera, where to mount etc. Thanks heaps.
thats so cool!!! what does it take to get started? Bookwork, or just jump right in?
Amazing job flying. Love the smile !!
Thanks larry!
Are helicopter cockpits louder than that of aeroplane cockpits.I have heard helicopter pilots loosing hearing becaz of loud cockpits?Plz make a video on thisss!
Thank you for sharing your passion for flying! I would love to learn to fly, But I'm to old now to start!
I'm really glad I can share my adventures through youtube!! Happy you enjoyed the video :)
You are never too old....
Paramotor
Yes accurate you never to old to fly shopper inkl. Flight instructor just for fun only you have to have the big money 💰😉 .......... !
What happens if you just let go of the controls in flight? Does the helicopter lose control quickly?
It looks like your passenger in the back jumped out somewhere. I hope he survived the fall... Later I see he makes a comeback. His mask must have helped slow his fall.
Are you still flying gliders from EHHV as well. I'm a private owner (Archer III) based on EHHV. Always find those gliders a bit scary (since they don't stay on track and turn all the time) but I admire the rudder&stick technique of most. For that reason I want to make an introduction flight at the GOZC. Would you take me on board during an introduction? 😁
That's brilliant philip is interested in doing is helicopter licence.aswell.
6:11 Many pilots of small aircraft are always in Ray Ban. Cool glasses...👍
Enjoyed the video Rosita. Did you have Maurits in the back until he jumped out to film? You seemed to have come to grips with rotary very quickly. Well done!
Glad you enjoyed the video!! Well spotted, we dropped him off before we did the emergency procedures :)
Helio Pilot KEWL KEWL AWESOME
Hello From BC Canada
Thanks Mike!
@@PilotBambi Your Welcome eventually you will be able to fly fixed and Rotory How cool is that.
This should be epic!
I am surprised he had you do a full down auto for such low hours logged in heli’s. Typically that is only introduced after PPL. Maybe its required in Canada a part of the check ride but its not in the US. CPL is required to do them in the check ride here though.
I like your instructor, sounds like Max Verstappen
Nice...
I know is going to be awesome 👌
You are a brave girl .love from india
Awesomeness
As always great Video 😊 looking forward to the next one.
How far do you intend on taking your helicopter flying ?
I'm starting to think you were born with wings !!!
Interesting video
Good job! :D
Thanks!!
@@PilotBambi Way more fun than hauling skydivers anyday! My favorite activity other than being alive. Nothing compares. Looking forward to seeing your solos.
The disappearing rear seat observer is interesting.
Why do you train in an R44 instead of 22? 22s flight hour is much cheaper
My thought exactly
If you like historic aviation you can check out stichting egmond vintage wings on Hoogeveen
Will definitely stop by on my next trip!
Are you planning to go back to Caribbean for the season again?
I would love to!! But I'm not sure if I can any time soon due to covid..
Very cool. How come you’re training in helicopters now? Are you thinking of a career flying helicopters instead of joining the airlines down the track?
basically, I want to fly everything!! :) I've always wanted to fly heli's, and now I had the chance to. I really want to work for humanitarian organisations, and preferably both fixed wing and rotor!
Pilot Bambi that’s awesome! Good luck with the training and look forward to watching your journey.
Could I ask, what size iPad to you use? Love your channel 💕
Wouldn’t take that chopper if you gave it to me for free heap of scrap 😉
Perfeito.
Not bad for 10hrs. You’re over controlling the pickup though. Gentle hand movements! You’ll get it!
Thanks for the advice! I still have quite a bit to learn:)
Hey Bambi, I want to fly a helicopter! ❤️
The word "power" in an R44 is , well, I didn't get it at all because it was the collective.
Guapisima
Bambi, Bambi, Bambi!!! 👍🙂😉
Rosita, could you do me a favor ? I would like to see you flying a CESSNA 206, EXTRA 300 and NORTH AMERICAN T6. I'm waiting, and I have time...what do you think about those planes? Good luck, keep going and bless you !!!!!!!!!!!!!
You should check out the first video and the germany ferry video. Both cessna 206 ;)
@@KunGProductionS Yes, I checked them out as all of Bambi's videos and I did a mistake and meant CESSNA 208 CARAVAN. Thks. for your comment...
@@SPXNO I would LOVE to fly the 208!! Hopefully next summer season :) T6 and extra 300 are high on the list!!
@@PilotBambi Thank you Rosita, looking forward and cannot wait -:)
There was some dude in the back seat and then he disappeared. Did he jump out?
Haha I don't know what happened to him!
Hopefully her autorotation's have got better
Why is a helicopter flown from the right seat?
If I had known you were at Hoogeveen, then I would have liked to see that in real life. what are you doing well !!
Ik zal er wel vaker komen hoor!! dankje :)
cool
great,,,
Show!!!! Bambi!!!!!
Thank S !!!!!!!!
