  • Position the patient sideling on the table, with their back towards you, as close to the edge as possible. Placing your body up against the patients, you will wrap your arm under the patient’s upper leg, while stabilizing the trunk with the other hand. You will then abduct the patient’s leg to 30o, extend the hip 30o and then lower the patient’s leg so it falls behind the one flat on the table. Ensure that you are stabilizing the trunk so the hips do not rotate while completing the motion. With a ruler, measure the distance from the medial side of the knee to the table. Record the distance in inches.
