Higgin's toast included the actual hometowns of the actors. And, as far as international players - Players from all over the world come to England to play in the Premier League and the Championship. The reason that more have come to Higgens' home, I suspect, it that Ted has created family atmosphere in the team.
I don't think Rebecca brought in any players when she took over. I think the big difference in players going to the Higgens household is that he's just respected and liked by the players now. If you remember the beginning when Higgens puts his hand up for high-fives, no one gives him one.
And if you notice, when she sees Roy Kent at her door, she reacts exactly the same way Ussie Guy does when he sees someone famous. “Whoa! Are you Roy Kent?” It’s hereditary…
Fun fact: the show was unexpectedly given two additional episodes for this season after they'd finalized the order initially. This is one of the two episodes they added in, I'll be interested to see if you can guess the second one.
Edit: I inadvertently answered your question before you asked it, but the short version is the difference in the team is Ted. I don't really celebrate X-mas and I generally avoid movies and TV about it, but this is by FAR my favorite X-mas episode of anything, and that is largely due to the celebration at the Higgins' home, because that shows the effect that Ted has had on the team. He mentions early on that the most players he's had come was two, so to see a large portion of the team show up demonstrates how much closer they are to each other than past years. The English Premier League is one of the top national football leagues so they can afford to pay for the best players from all over the world.
Jamie misunderstanding the whole Secret Santa thing is honestly one of my favourite jokes in the whole show, for some reason. "The email said SECRET Santa, didn't want to ruin the surprise, did I" gets me every single time.
I love this episode so much ! So wholesome 😊 Pepsi max decaf. FYI The U.K. is an island so there is excellent surfing in Cornwall and West Wales. The premier league have players from around the world. My team LFC a have a Brazilian goalkeeper, French, Dutch, Greek English defenders. Frontline players from Egypt, Holland, Uruguay, Portugal. I think they feel more of a team now that’s why more went to Higgins. Plus the place names are the home cities of the actual actors.
This was one of two extra episodes written after the rest of the season. However there's one detail we see (I'll leave you wondering so as not to spoil) that does get a mention later (so they clearly did some rewrites). There actually is surfing in England. On a coast where you need an insulated wetsuit even in summer. But you can see it on RUclips. It exists.
I think the point of so many players showing up, is designed to show how many of them consider the team as "family" thanks to Ted vs before they were just hired guns.
In case you don't own a map, the UK is a few islands and islands are surrounded by coastline...some of which are capable of making waves that are surfable...it's not the Banzai Pipeline in Hawaii, but it'll do.
I'm sure someone else has said it, but originally season 2 was only planned for 10 episodes. After the plot for the season was written, Apple approved 2 additional episodes. This was one of the episodes they added after the fact, which is why it might feel a bit more disconnected (but still brilliant)
I’m not going to over share here cause I already did on Patreon 🤣 but thank you for another brilliant reaction. Most people don’t get the luxury of accidentally watching this episode for the first time at the right time of year. When it came out, it was August 🤣 I just love that when they thought this episode through they just had one goal: “how can we make the most Ted Lasso episode that ever Ted Lassoed filled with the most christmassy wholesomeness to ever exist?”… and this is the result 🤣 and by 2x4 we just can’t help but love it!
Soccer is played EVERYWHERE (except sorta the US). It would not be a disadvantage to your team to have players from other countries. The real thing of significance in that scene was when when Higgins named all those cities, those were the cities the ACTOR are actually from.
The first of the two bottle episodes. Well... this one is charming. AFC Richmond is the 'family' Ted fosters and Christmas reveals this so wonderfully.
Fistral Beach in Newquay, Cornwall, has been home to international surfing events. Way, way, way back when I was a teenager in the 90's I used to screen-print T-shirts at a nearby resort and sold a lot to Hawaiians and Aussie's over for the surf. Never could surf myself, always preferred winter sports and football.
@@mandyireson5101 You had a lot longer stint there than I did, basically 2 summers and one year for me. Loved it there. Haven't been back though, keep thinking I should.
Nope. A lot of the best football players come from abroad. I just think the reason they got so many at the Higgins dinners this year was the change in culture at the club so they felt moew welcome to visit and wanted to because higgin is... well even without the Van Dyke... Chill.
I think that most of the players were there under Rupert’s ownership. IIRC, Rebecca was a recent owner when the show started, with that newspaper headline sounding like it was a new development.
Trying not to repeat too much what others have said, not all clubs can create and/or sustain an environment that's positive enough that the players would want to spend free time as a team, there'll usually be smaller friend groups but that's about it. The English leagues tend to have tons of foreigners because their work visa system wouldn't limit them as much before Brexit while other leagues usually have a fixed number.
Rebecca IS rich... the club was doing okay before relegation and losing a sponsor... they might have enough banked to have a season to get back on track before having to let contracted players go...

Jan Maas is new to be fair. But overall your point is valid
11:18 Roy Kent being effortlessly good with kids by doubling down on the gruffness is pretty much the best thing ever.
The actress who plays the dentist is the real-life mother of Ussie Guy. I love that they’ve made his character an ongoing role.
And if you notice, when she sees Roy Kent at her door, she reacts exactly the same way Ussie Guy does when he sees someone famous.

To the family we're born with, and to the family we make along the way. And most importantly, to Richmond!
Great Christmas episode.

There’s a long tradition of British shows having Christmas episodes, and this fits right in to that tradition.

18:08 Rule number 1 of making a Christmas episode of any show that kids may watch, always include proof of Santa at some point in the episode.

He might have also been planning a trip to Portugal

I think the players from all over the world is pretty normal. The difference is Ted has made them more of a team, including Rebecca and Higgins.
The difference is Ted. And the family supportive dynamic/culture he has brought to the team

I was in Newquay from 85-92 and came here to say the exact same thing.

Personally I wouldn't complain about a chocolate-coated Keeley. But that's probably just me.

If u haven’t watched Shrinking yet u should - it’s so funny! Also, Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent) writes a lot of them & shows up in a few episodes.
Rebecca with the hi ted mirrors ted with hi boss is season 1

Agree Goat is a good meat if cooked right
I just want Ted to adopt me.
