OMG!! I’m so glad I found your channel! My Mom made the best greens! Mustard green, collard greens, turnip greens, spinach and in the spring we picked fresh Polk greens! If we didn’t have enough Polk to make a big mess of greens my Mom would mix the Polk with mustard or turnip greens. Boy, this has brought back so many fond memories of my Mom… ❤️
Poke greens grow everywhere in southeastern NC. They look similar to tobacco plants and later have lots of blue berries on them, but I never knew anyone who ate them. When we were children, we mashed the juice out of them and strained it in a big.pretty bottle and added water to finish filling the bottle and screwed a lid on it, then, sit it on a table for decoration. We never drunk the juice. My Mother-in-law cooked the poke leaves in with her turnip greens and hog jowls about half and half. It grows wild to about 4 feet tall around our horse pasture and in my flower beds. She only cooked the leaves.
I am in the process of making a kale green soup or stew and decided that collard greens or mustard greens would be a good starting place. I really appreciate your recipe and will use it as a starter. Thanks so much!
Chef i have fond memories of mustard greens. My grandmother taught me how to cook in the 60s and 70s. I still love them. Thanks for sharing. God bless.
Thanks for giving a time you cook your mustard greens. I have never cooked them and had no idea how long to cook them before trying them. I happen to have a nice ham bone to season them with. Excited to make this for the first time.
Thank you soooo much Mr.Old School I made these for my husband & he loved them instead of ham hocks I used turkey tails the recipe was simple & to the point ❤️ The liquid Gold was to perfection!!
My family and I have loved this recipe for years. Now due to medical issues with my mom,j we substitute the hocks for chicken broth in her little pot. Yes we have several versions in one meal. The other is mixed mustard greens with collards for my dad who just turned 80 and will eat them the only way his mom fixed greens and of course with the cornbread and pepper sauce.
