Malkmus seems to be this gushing creative fountain, that just keeps producing all kinds of different, quirky, amazing music. He goes places with his songs that no artist I know can go, leading to a delicious unpredictability in his offerings.
This is really amazing. The song, the lyrics, the people, the life there, life in general, this song is so powerful. i am really amazed when listening to this music, the video clip is perfect., ans there is something special,in the air, coming in, that you'll never forget, some kind of magic in this song. Crongats to, Stephen and the Jicks and also the faces in the video ;) that's so special and unique !
"Wine List" is a chapter in Heathlands by Patrick Norrie. The one about the drunk old guy, the conquistadors, the bats and the mystery. Trust me, nobody got this reference, despite it being a wobbly gem of a song. Keep up!
@mrshiggs1 I always thought the lyric was 'I had a crap gin and tonic at Wounded Knee' and that Malkmus was being an even greater (albeit lovable) smart ass by making the association between British and American imperialism - hence the parallels between the 'Great Game' of the C19 and the more recent intervention in Afghanistan. But then again I may have heard it wrong. Only the great man himself knows :-)
@chrisocony. It's a reference to the 19th century struggle between Britain and Russia for control of Afghanistan...hence the 'great, great game' reference...but hey, history does nothing if not repeat itself...
So many great lines in this song. But how can you forego the line “I had a crap gin and tonic it wounded me, and sent me way off on one.” Classic Malkmus 👍
must have listened to this song a billion times and it gets better every time.
every time
Truth 👆
Malkmus is underrated... it’s a shame because Pavement was relatively popular, but his solo stuff is really good
i've come to the realization that his solo efforts are far better than his pavement work. far better.
I agree fully
its 2019 and im still bumping this all the time

Sometimes i wish Malkmus would just write more songs like this. He can still be oblique, but he is a great story teller, its almost too easy for him.
So spot on
Pro tip : watch series on Kaldrostream. Me and my gf have been using them for watching lots of of movies lately.
