I met Ms. Jackson a number of times as a 12-14 year old on a television variety program in Los Angeles during the 1960ties. Unlike all other celebrities there she took the time to sit and talk to me as an adult. She very clearly expressed to me a future where young people could build a new world in which race was irrelevant. She was the most spiritual and finest person I have ever known, with no bitterness or anger. I have done well but only wish I could have lived my life more like her.
Today is my birthday, I had no money, zero’s in my account, worked under the rain, borrowed money to eat and get back home, I almost cried a couple of times today, but I’m going to bed now, God sees me. I’ll stick with HIM
Your birthday was/is always celebrated in Heaven!!! Just imagine the party that is awaiting you🎉 This is just a shadowland you are passing through on your way to Glory where your Father awaits you❤
My grandma just passed today. 5:15 PM. This is her favorite song. She always sings it to me and my cousins. She sings because she is happy. She sings because she is free. And God always watched over her.
This is when Gospel music was pure. This day its about fame and money. This great woman live 3 blocks down from where I lived in Chicago. She had a modest and beautiful red and white colored home with a rose garden in front of it. I remember her from my childhood of how she made me feel. She is greatly missed. Greatly missed.
Wow what a amazing opportunity to be able to live down the street from Mrs Mahalia Jackson, I absolutely love her you can sense the holy spirit when she sings...
@rob roy And Michael Jackson didn't? Your criticism is valid but you can apply it to almost every artist. I appreciate that the message she brought helped people transcend their circumstances.
@rob roy She gave freely to US .. God bless her...She now has the crown of righteousness - so well deserved....Money have I none but what I have I give freely ..to those who would listen...She gave it all under adverse conditions,,, Amen
Sheila Price why do you think she has a crown of righteousness when your own bible says different...you Christians should try reading the Bible sometimes
There is something so heartfelt, poignant and transcendent about classic gospel. I could listen for hours and feel every syllable, every nuance and truly appreciate the beauty, pain and weight of history behind every note!
We are all unworthy instruments that God uses. Through his blood we can be used to glorify God! She did it like no other. Thank you for your ministry. To God be the glory!
Mahalia Jackson was truly an anointed singer whom brought compassion and sincerity to life with her powerful voice . God rest her soul because she was one of the best black gospel singers of all time.
My aunt just passed away. I vividly remember her singing this song in church as a young girl. I loved her version as much as I loved Miss Mahalia’s. Rest in peace auntie.
And well in power to deliver you out of your struggle . This song just showed me not only does God know what we're going through but he is our strength and guide through it all and our way maker. He's still preforming miracles and even if he didn't he's so sovereign.
This single song sung by this child of God could draw people to God, to experience his love. The experience of this love guarantees that life will change for ourselves and those who love us and meet us.
Birthday Remembrance of Mahalia Jackson. October 26, 1911 - January 27, 1972 She was an American Gospel Singer. Possessing a powerful contralto voice, she was referred to as "The Queen of Gospel". MAY SHE CONTINUE TO REST IN ETERNAL PEACE!
Amen and Amen...She is in the presence of the king now and yet she is still with us...Some things just never die or is it the truth that goodness is always ressurected?
How I wish this great woman of God were at the Inaugauration of President Obama. She was in the march from Alabama to Washington of 1963.Her music sums up the hopes and desires of African-Americans past, present and in the future who as their first African ancestors wandered when will "I be free" her music so touches the soul that it just brings tears to my eyes.Amen
Love this song and Mahalia. Thank you for posting this in times of trouble in 2023, ongoing. Let's find a way for Unity... Amen 🙏 Sisters and Brothers ❤

When she sung " God Made Me Free ". I felt that. It means so much more coming from such a great singer of colour for obvious historical reasons and significance. Bless You, Oh Child Of God.

Just listen to her love of the Lord, it melts away all of the negative Posts. Her voice is a gift from God. If people were busy with their own gifts they wouldn't be writing negative comments about such an awe inspiring voice of passion that Mahalia has.
Oh come on y'all. It is just like Mahalia Jackson sings it..His eye is on the sparrow. Why would he drop us now after we have come all this way. No matter what happens in this election His eye will stay on us and we will keep praying hard for His answers
I love Mahalia and I love the conceit in this song, that God is watching the least of us but... who are you addressing when you say 'Oh come on y'all'? I don't see anyone disagreeing with you. And who is the 'we' you are talking about? I am constantly amazed at the things people on these threads take as given when addressing millions of other people with differing points of view. Like the idea that everyone is religious for a start - one can appreciate the amazing voice of Mahalia without being religious.
This is was of my 1st solo songs I sung at church as a young teen. Ms. Jackson was and still is my vocal inspiration. No auto-tune, no watered down garbage nothing overdubbed. just straight singing☺
