I follow some of the other guys posting plastering vids and thought they had it all sewn up. You've taken things to another level with your tips and different view on content, absolutely brilliant!. Favourite tips are how to keep the skirtings clean and using SBR to control suction. I learnt to plaster about 20 years ago in my 40's and worked professionally for a couple of years but gave in to permanent employment in an office. I still do bits now which I really enjoy and will be trying SBR for sure in the battle to control suction and allow me more time. Thanks, Kirk
Kirk this is brilliant mate I been plastering for over 30 years never come across these ceilings till this week this video will help massively on my job cheers 👍
Hey Kirk thankyou for all the tips and videos you share, you’re awesome to listen, watch and learn from, not to forget Kieran being a great lad helping on the journey, keep up the great work the both of you, cheers!
I have just started a job doing internal wall insulation which involves alot of plastering and I have had to self learn how to plaster so I want to let you know that from watching your videos I learnt so much and made me really confident. My boss was plaster for 20 years and he thinks that I have been a plaster for many years cuz my work looks so good lol but it's really down to you from all the tips and knowledge you have given me so thankyou very much keep up with what you are doing because you are a inspection
Fantastic video as always kirk 👏 been on the trowel 10+ years and every video your teaching me something new love it mate ! You are master of the trade 👌 enjoy your weekend pal😁
Hi Kirk, I'm a bricklayer but I always wanted to try learning plastering & rendering, just find it so enjoyable to watch your videos after work mate. Thanks :)
Nearly every house I do near me have these ceiling done the same as you kirk a number of times over the years I actually enjoy doing them just something different than a plain wall or ceiling Great job 👏
Good video lad. Something been looking for in the past many years ago but no one ever put good videos of the process they follow for these type of lids. Very informative. Well presented. Top spread.
Hi Kirk I use to form them like your doing but without the scrim sheet. We used normal scrim all over the cracks. Don't think they had them rolls. But I've seen plasterers use a old frying pan to form the curve. Which would form the barrel and catch any drops. I even bought a trowel for barrels which was curved. But a good broken in trowel works a treat
Cracking job These plastic filling knives are brilliant, pretty much stopped using a twitcher. I get them sharp and straight from the trowel then get them tight with the plastic knife. The back to a polish with a trowel Blinding tool, also for those crappy little bits next to architraves
Great video. I'm a plasterer myself, haven't been doing it full time for around 10 years, just the odd bit now and again. I always pick up loads of tips after watching your videos. Top plasterer for sure. Greetings from Ireland
I’m a plasterer been at it nearly 6 years now so basically still a baby to the trade😂 but awesome videos mate and cracking advice and tips would be class to do a day with you 👍
Another quality video 👌🏼 niceone mate really enjoyed this one…I avoid these hand turned ceilings at all costs 😂 only because I’ve never gained the experience in doing them only reskimmed a couple and that was enough of a ballache! Looking forward to giving one a try after watching this! What the hell have my Saturday nights become watching plastering videos on RUclips 😝
There’s levels and yours levels above Kirk best on ere now mate impressed with this video never seen or watched it done before good on ye getting this out ere 👍
U made that look easy Kirk but reckon the average diyr is gonna really struggle to achieve anything like ur results that was really showing the artistic side of spreading reckon uve got to have been at it for years to turn out work of that quality great stuff
Also Kirk in this vid u worked down to the top of a frieze/picture rail which in my mind although in no way easy must make it easier than working all the way down to skirt level cos in that scenario ur effectively doing the lid and the wall all in one or basically the whole room ide love to know how u manage to do this without the plaster running away from u and going off I’m pretty sure u can do it would just luv to know ur method I don’t know why though cos I ain’t gonna attempt to do it think this is beyond me cheers mate
Great video mate, I’ve always used a sponge on these cornered then went in with the flexi, I will try your way. Never seen anyone video coves as well. Boss this
Always formed them first with abit of bonding to get the right angle curve to trowel, last few years thou been using the rubber marshal town wipe down blade absolute game changers
@On the trowel its nothing Kirk.... your vids are great, and you deserve miles more views and subscribers....... keep banging out content like this, and you'll easy get upwards of 50k in no time.
Excellent vid Kirk. Only found you on you tube lately. I'm in sunny Runcorn. Been plastering since I was 13 cause my dad was a plasterer and had to help him for free. (Got the feeling you probably been the same). Loads of same tips as I was taught, keeping bit of stiff stuff on side for fixing any dig in marks or knocks etc. Only difference in our routine is for the internals using our small tool for extra sharpness. Keep up the great work.
Spot on mate, nice one for the comment. Reckon me an you are about the same, watch this an see if its a similar upbringing to you mate ruclips.net/video/7hYS75YRuKA/видео.html
Last one of these I done there was no rails lol so I had to do the ceiling and all the walls in one hit I didn’t wanna try to feather it in would look pish the only time I’ve ever used extra time aswell, top job by the way 👍
Incredible talent mate. Those corners were pure art. Bet the customer was so made up with that result. Getting paid soon buddy and you'll have a pint on me!
@@Onthetrowel I’ve had 2 nights off but back in now and then off for 2 weeks holiday next week I shall be having a little practise at plastering then 😏
Hi, thank you for the wonderful video! I’m very interested in doing this in our apartment and finally found this gem on hand-troweled cove ceilings… I want ask what type of plaster you are using? Can this be done with lime plaster too? Sorry if I missed that bit of info. Thanks so much for you feedback! Greetings from Berlin!
Kirk use a mask when mixing, you will be ok when you are young ,but could suffer bad respiratory problems when you get older, thanks for making such fantastic videos
I had to laugh when you said about 'never' overlap your scrims 😂😂 .... One of My early jobs - back in the days of Hessian scrim - (which you have to put a LOT MORE plaster on initially) - I scrimmed 'all' of the joints in an Attic Conversion that was ALL Plasterboard ... My Mate & Me were going to get it ALL in one HIT! 🤨 .... Got almost to the end of the scrimming when ONE started to peel away .... My Mate RAN as fast as he could - 'I' still had my hands full - halfway through putting one up - YEP! You guessed It - AARRGGHH!!!!!!! .... I was Mummified in a HundredWeight of plaster and scrim with my Mate rolling all over the floor 🤣😂🤣😂 ... I couldn't even MOVE! it was that heavy ... I had to wait a while before he could calm himself down for him to be able to FREE Me from my Scrim Coffin .... Good job I wasn't on my own EH?? 😀 ... I did grow to 'love' doing the simple plaster coving that you show here - And! the freehand arches - Can't STAND those mesh articles 🤨 ... But let this tale of Woe be a lesson to ALL budding Plasterers - DO NOT overlap scrim unless by maybe an inch at most ......By the way - very impressed you were able to chat away while doing what 'was' a pretty awkward set of angles there 👏👏🤠
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm actually sat in a cafe laughing out loud at this. We've all been there when wet scrims wrap around your head 🤣 The funny thing is though, it's a simple tip and it will fly over the head of most young lads, its only looking back from experience that you appreciate this tip. Cheers for the funny story mate
Best not to attempt this level of plastering unless you are well above average this is high high skill set work a flat sponge is a massive help on the external corners and a small external angle trowel helps to form nice sharp corners This Man has the dainty touch he’s making it look easy but even he needed to have a Beer afterwards 😊
why did that architrave go up first on the ceiling , be easier to skim then bang it on .. makes it ten times harder ...and for the bends just use a wide angle trowel get a great finish afterwards . ..and to be perfect get a soft sponge put in to a plastic bag like a see through plastic dip in water shake off and go round your bends just when going off that'll do it
I usually use joint rules but trying to make videos that the average newbie can follow and put into practice. There will be more videos that tackle this more in depth in the future but we just sort of needed a starting point if that makes sense 🙂😉
@@Onthetrowel I guess it comes down to what works and what is handy a lot of the time. I cut my teeth doing dry wall in Australia and they do it very differently. We rarely skim the entire wall, we just do the joints, corners and screws, When I was younger I could do an entire small 3 bedroom house in a day walls and ceilings just using hand tools. No one knows what a speed skim or a Darby is but we have lots of different size broad knives which we use often and frequently only one or 2 trowels but I have 5 trowels including 2 curved trowels and a bowed trowel. So its really a different trade.
Yeah talk about customers moving furniture or not! Some totally get it sorted and empty everything some do piss all just as they left it curtains up pots in sink you can spend a good hr emptying a room.
We called it rolling the ceiling. Take experience , surprised you didn't use a internal trowel.polishiing walls is daft. You get it shining then they hit it with paint and rollers and it looks like orange peel anyway. Pointless. Experience, practice required for a job like that. Top job by the way!
The best plasterer out there and ive been doing it 48years
