Nothing like a relaxing Sunday morning coffee + ndyakangler
Yooo same!
Same but I'm hungover as balls
Same but didn't have as much fun as John Denver did last night!
Right there with yah
@@MsCuriousturtle it's a rough one today haha
Imagine trying to tell NDangler he’s doing something wrong. Dudes a boss.
Doesn’t matter if you’ve been fishing for 40 years, you can always learn something.
@@SPFLDAngler I was referencing his comment about people in the comments telling him he’s using that minnow wrong despite the fact that he’s slaying em.
FYI, 30+ feet… the fish ain’t going to make it. If you plan to fish 30+ feet, you should be keeping every single one and not releasing.
I planned on keeping fish being that deep and most of the crappie I catch there are good keeper size. If I kept the little fish I’m sure I’d have plenty of comments about keeping too small of fish as well and a lot of places I fish have a minimum size you can keep. The one under the ice did end up swimming off as I tried to pull it back in with my ice scoop though.
It may have kicked off but it’s not going to survive, the fish has barotrauma coming out of that depth. There is not way for the fish to release the air and they will just float back up until they die.
Man this looks so cool, hoping to try ice fishing this winter as well.
You would be surprised how warm and comfortable you will be. Not only the winter gear and heaters in the shacks but simply moving around and towing the sled, you get warm and sweaty.
“Got my 4th line down, finally” 😂 😂 we get two in Minnesota and I’m always slow getting the second one out
It’s nice being able to have four lines when laying out a spread of tipups but if the fish are biting at all it gets tough dealing with more than a couple.
When yak angler is ice fishing you know the year is over hope everyone caught their pbs this year!!
What’s the purpose of the foam slip bobber? I’ve never used one but only done this a few times.
I didn’t really need the bobber during the frenzy but when it’s slower out I’ll use it to keep my bait hanging a set distance above the bottom.
Interesting to see how ice fishing is done in the US/Canada, and I wonder how much of the differences are because of different target fish (no crappies here). Never seen a tent or a radar on the ice here in southern Finland, but maybe the serious fishermen don't fish on the small lakes I fish either.
vexilars are very common out here just because it gives you a good advantage being able to move to a new spot if you know theres not fish there. Tents are insulated and help with the wind, and allow you to put a propane heater down to keep you warm
Yeah, we have tents or pop-up shacks because it gets cold here in North Dakota but when we fish, ice or open water, we like simple sonar to see if there is fish down there but I am not a fan of the livescope panoptix when you can literally see the fishes every move. Part of the fun of fishing is the drama of not knowing if you are gonna catch them. Stay safe on the ice man!
@@loboyd691 How cold? -10C (14F) is not a problem, but at -20C (-4F) I'd stay at home. One big reason I like ice fishing is that I'm not tempted to pull out a phone, since I'd just freeze my fingers :)
In the lakes and rivers in Scandinavia the fish are also the same as the northern fresh water lakes and rivers. Pike and perch... I have fished the Swedish fresñ water and the lakes in Minnesota and was amazed that the same kind of fish are also present!!! Small world...
Beautiful....that's what I thought North Dakota would look like this time of year...little different than Leesburg Florida
Hooked up with your channel through another fisherman here in BC. Gotta say Im enjoying your content allot. Love how you dont play your fish to death for the camera. Great show, respect to you ✌️👍
I was at 8500 feet elevation in Utah this weekend pulling up 16-20” trout on 10” of ice. It was SO good to get on the ice again. Thanks for your vids!
Scofield?
@@robinmarcgamangasso8054 yessir! you must know it well
During the winter you're not kayaking... However, during the summer days when you're on the river in your kayak and you can hear banjo's playing from the woods..... It's time to pick up the pace!!!😟
You’re the only person that I get audibly excited for when I see a new post 😂
ND I hope you read this 😆.. You are like the Bob Ross of Fishing. Your voice is so soothing to listen to and we all love fishing. Hope to see you try out Vegas Fishing 1 day. It’s a challenge for bass
Good fishing. Fun to watch, but I’m California born ‘n raised so I don’t think I could handle the cold of ice fishing LoL. Though, I’m glad you are and choose to show us your exploits.
Thanks, NDYakAngler.
I watch your kayak trips on those beautiful rivers full of smallmouth bass green with envy. Watching this, not so much! LOL
That fish that did not take off - barotrauma. Gets likely over 30 ft in depth.
It did swim off eventually. There were a couple others that swam back down no problem but when I fish that deep I plan on keeping anything of decent size.
@@ndyakangler no any fragile fish like perch, walleye, and especially crappie MUST be kept in over 25 FOW. I normally love your videos and this one was great to see good size crappie but it bothered me that you were releasing them. ANY fish pulled from greater than 25 feet of water will have barotrauma. Seen it way too many times. If you look back at 17:48 in your video, you can see a dead crappie/barely alive crappie under the ice on its side when you go to pick up another one out of the hole. If you would like to release fish in the future, please stay 20 feet and shallower so the fish have a chance!
that train whistle off in the distance sounds awesome
Awesome! It's such a pleasure to join you, Matt, on your fishing treks be they from the kayak, on shore or on the ice!! I couldn't help getting a little hungry watching you amass such a nice catch for dinner! Take care and be safe!
Damn dude you got me anxious for the ice over here to start 😬 I'm in Connecticut we don't get it till like the second week of January hopefully if the weather plays rite. Good job men 👏 love you're Vids brother.
Thankyou for taking me along with you.. Love the bucket sir..
Once again something great to watch with Sunday morning breakfast! Thanks for sharing...
Man, ice fishing sure has changed since I was a boy in Wisconsin many years ago!
So excited to get on the hard water this winter, covid, life, hip replacent, have time this winter!! Nice fish!! TIP UP
For me, Perch are one of the most tastiest fish in the world.
Once again, I'm in a tree deer hunting while watching ice fishing this time. Technology isn't all bad😁
🤣🤣🤣👍🏼
Shot any?
Even deer like this channel
@@OntarioBirding7538 not today. But 3 big doe and a 9 point this season
@@knuckledragger2412 nice, I wish you great luck on your next hunt!
Yes sir!!! Waiting for the ice up here in ontario canada ! Cheers from the boys up.north!
Howdy from Ohio 😎 💯 Love the ice fishing man. Makes me jelly
Got to give you credit, I love to fish but not in that kind of cold.
I’m not a big fan of the cold either. It’s not too bad once I get the shack up and the heat going, at least then it’s one less problem trying to keep a camera running with frozen batteries!
When it's colder rods get shorter
Just like when you trim your bushes your deck look bigger, 😂
Best part of my morning right here. Thanks bud!
I have a huge amount of respect for the noble RUclips guys like you.
None of the “LETS GOOOOOOOOO” garbage like 90% of these other loons.
And your videos aren’t 30% intro, 10% actual fishing, and 60% advertisements.
Thanks for being one of the few remaining real ones.
You'll never go hungry fishing with this guy, he knows how to do it.
Why did I expect you to be sitting in your Yak out on the ice 😅
🤝🤝🤝🤍💙❤️🎣🎣🎣🇷🇺
Heck of a walleye Jacob got, thought that was going on the wall for sure!
Way to smack the crappies!
I think it was his PB!
Ice fishing looks like such a pleasure, too bad the ice doesn't get thick enough in my area to ice fish.
It’s by far my favorite method of fishing!
Good grief. A tent, M fuel auger, a heater? Good greif what happened to the days of ice fishing when witts were dull and hooks rusty? Beaverdam was the tipup of choice and the monster hand auger ya sharpened the blades every week awaiting the weekend.
I hand augered the first couple years I ice fished. We get some thick ice here though, 2-3ft by late winter and it gets rough doing multiple holes by hand.
@@ndyakangler Oh I remember the extension pole on the power auger. Having to shlep it out on the ice and hope it started the old Brigs or 2 stroke perhaps. Dragging a shantie with an old Olypmic single lung sled. At least you're near water. The ponds around here are 2 hours away and suck. State fills the best bass fishery with Arkansas Cats that shove their way under a bass to eat the eggs.
For the people that have no concept of ice fishing like me , could you explain your setup and gear. How do you have your electronic and a heater going? Do you clear your spots of snow. How does the ice not break up with you on it? Why did you put snow around your tent. A tutorial would be very informative. I watch you all the time in the summer, and me n the wife love the videos. But in Las Vegas, we get no ice.
Hey where are you fishing at
Thanks 👌👍🙏😁🎣Please show how you tie the tackle, it slides float for fishing rod on the fishing cord?
Nothing More nice than watching ice fishing while ice fishing😂(waiting for something to appear in the fish finder or just my tipup to go Off or my one Rods Bell to ring, already caught 1 pike earlier from a lake with a small mormyska jig with 3 maggots and 15 minutes ago one pike and other one 5minutes ago,not the biggest pikes but happy to catch some in here
Great ice opener Matt. Like a good crappie, perch and panfish bite. Like that you also show its okay to use the old In-Fisherman selective harvest. I remember the push of that concept and the Linderers and the crew did a nice job of explaining the conservation upside. And fish taste good. Blessings brother
I busted out my portable heater just watching this video...
Man, that looks cold, but fun! We appreciate every video, keep them coming in 2023.
A new Greg Blanchard video that ended and surprisingly led into a new NDYakAngler video. Great morning, already.
As usual THE most entertaining fishing channel for recreational fisherman, awesome bro , I don't have ice yet but these videos get me all excited and rigged up, thank you
Really enjoy your videos. My wife and I would like to camp in your area and do some river fishing , this spring, with our kayaks. Could you suggest a campground near a smallmouth river?
After Christmas collect a few trees and drop them out at some of your spots and if you can mark them with a GPS so you can find them with your yak
Come up to Manitoba sometime. We'll catch greenbacks.
Hopefully after next weekend eastern Ne will have ice! Getting the itch.
Just so you know, is that when catching fish below about 32 feet or there about. Fish will die . Something about they can't handle coming up from below that depths so quickly. So if fishing below that depths expect to keep the fish. Letting them go is certain death for them. And they will go to waste.
Anybody else get a Bob Ross vibe when this man speaks? And I mean that as a complement of the highest order.
ahh sunday and new video life is good :)
Your lucky you have snow, I’m literally in Canada and there’s no snow!
We call crappy sac-a-lait
Jacob sets up, nothing but small perch. Yak shows up, crappies everywhere!
Well I have never been ice fishing I've never never tried it I'd like to try it it looks like he'd be fun but down here in in the South regions it don't get as cold as it does up in the northern regions so go out and do any ice fishing down here you'd fall through the ice so it's not it's not like 8 inches or a foot thick when it freezes over down here it might be 2 in and that's not enough to hold the weight of the gear let alone a person what is the interesting interesting video very interesting well then some nice slabs so enjoy the enjoy the the meal and I'll enjoy the video and look for the next one have a good one
There were a few people that actually drove their trucks out there on this trip. I didn’t show it in the vid because I didn’t want to give anyone the idea it’s safe to drive out there. We had about 8-9” of ice, not quite enough for me to feel comfortable driving my truck on.
I was on the road to my favorite lake to ice fish when I got the alert for your new video. Good timing!
fish sandwiches
Actually was going through Your older ice fishing vids the other day. You inspired me to gear up and try as well. Being a native of the Carolinas, I convinced my friend to fly up and try as well. Keep up the great content man. Cant wait for spring though.
Great video, that looks really fun! And you've got a great dinner! lol
In the video the fish look small, but they are actally pretty good sized crappie!
About time.
How is it winter there? There's still like 9 or 10 days left.
First time I see you keeping a fish, not used to that, thought you were vegetarian 😂, jk
So you have to pack up your tent in the night? Or do you stay there for the night?
I pack the tent up. I have a headlamp and several flashlights to help see after dark and I can get my gear broke down and loaded up in about ten minutes.
How could couch surfers think they could tell YOU how to fish...smh
The best thing about my morning
Should have kept them all. The ones you released died of barotrauma.
I’m in Canada… no ice here yet.. 😂😂😂😂😂
Hot chocolate and relax Sunday night watching you catch fish!
Glad too see the ice fishing videos! Are you going too fish for some walleyes?
To be sitting in my motor home in the heart of the Sonoran desert in Arizona in sunny and warm 70 degree weather while drinking coffee and watching your awesome ice fishing video. It doesn’t get any better. Well done. Keep up the good work. Happy holidays to all.
You're a lucky man. That's gorgeous country and those temps are awesome
You should totally pull your stuff in a kayak. I am really dissapointed.
Not even a smidge of ice out here in eastern CO. hopefully soon though. Next week we've got a cold front comin through fingers crossed!

Wish I could enjoy ice fishing. Never any ice and no damn time.
That dinner was amazing!!!

Been waitin' for the day! Good Luck!

Would have been nice to see this yesterday RUclips! I hate knowing that YT doesn't alert ALL subscribers as soon as content becomes available. I put out content as well (not NEAR as nice as this) and the fact that the algorithm does that to creators is diabolical. They already have ALL the power in the relationship...grrr. ANYWAY, I know this isn't your favorite way to fish Matt (freezing your junk off on a frozen lake) so I'm glad you got some beautiful crappie and some great footage, especially the underwater stuff...that's always SO cool to see where they live because it helps to understand how to find them...and I bet sunset on a frozen lake looks cool if you can see it. That shot of Jacob in his shelter was great...just happy as a lark doing what he loves, same as you...just brilliant. I don't know the first thing about ice fishing and I have SO many questions. One is that I get why the poles are short but, why are they so small in diameter and flexible?
Damn why did that crappie not swim back down? Did he die that fast?
oh yea, crappie!
Which Milwaukee tool is that? I've been wondering if I could get any Milwaukee products that would become ice augers, so I really need that!
It's their mud mixer. Just make sure you pair it up with one of their high output batteries, they do better in cold conditions and the regular M18's can cause the mud mixer to cut out drilling through thicker ice. I've gone through 2-3ft without any problems with my setup. I've used the regular 5ah M18's too and if I'm drilling a lot of holes through thicker ice it would cut out but if you're not doing 6 or more holes in a row through a foot of ice the regular batteries would probably be sufficient.
Thank you 👍
I've never been ice fishing... How does the bobber work if the line simply slips through it? I guess you just have to pay attention for any movement at all....
There’s a stop I’ll usually set to 1-3ft off the bottom for when I want to set the rod down. The parts of the trip that make most of the video are when fish are coming through and a lot of times I’ll work them up well above the bobber stop and feel the bite.
Mornin folks ☕️
Are you interested in going dark house spear fishing?
Thank you !
🎣🔥😁👍
Ok now I’m itching to get out on the ice but still a few weeks before hard water here in SE Michigan 😋 Great video as usual!
I'm just across the border from you and looking like it will be awhile with these warm temps
@@dougroberts3643 I was born and raised in the Great White North eh! Windsor to be exact
@Dubba Windsor, eh? Right across the river from Detroit. I'm an hour and a half south of Detroit / Windsor. I'm on the southern part of the western end of Erie. I can look out my windows and see the city lights from Detroit in the winter when the air conditions are right. It's supposed to get cold this weekend. Maybe the ice isn't too far off
Fun video! Lookup "barotrauma". You were fishing in pretty deep water and likely all of your released fish dyed as a result of barotrauma because they were pulled from such deep water, typically over 28'. Studies show that even if the fish swims off lively, it has a high risk of dying later from the damage.
I live in California and I catch huge Crappie on 65mm walking baits, as well as the Super Spook Jr., and Lucky Craft 110mm Jerkbaits. My friends use Crappie jigs on 4# and have had great nights, but I can't put down the bass gear. Even a Whopper Plopper 90 works. My biggest is 1.9, but that's the common weight for me.
No pike action haa. Good catch.👏🐟🐟
What kind of bobbers are you using?
