Congrats, guys..looks like you got over day 1 assinitis, lol.and I was so pleased that you didn't experience serious injuries with that fall.. my son and I made the opposite ride (Montreal to Toronto) in 2018, and it was AWSOME!!! Thanks for the vids.. brought back great memories. 😊
@@SheelaghDaly Actually last year, I was planning on taking the train out to Toronto and ride back to Montreal but a rather serious head-on collision with another cyclists put the kabosh on those plans. Fortunately no one was seriously hurt but a huge crack on the carbon down tube of my Trek Emonda frame toasted my ride and killed the season.. At 66 years old I almost hung up my wheels but alot of pushing and shoving from my riding buddy got me back in the saddle this season.. I won't do the To/Mtl ride this season but I do have my eye on achieving next year. (Hopfully If all gows well I'll still get a fair amount of KMs under my belt.. If yiu guy's are up in the Montreal area You may want to look up the ride to/from Montreal/Mt Laurier.. aprox 300 km of which 80% is on a scenic beautiful trail (I useally stop at Mt Tremblant for an overnight.. the ride takes me 2 days) Anyhow happy trails you two.. ride hard..stay safe.. 🙂🚲
Wow! What a great adventure for you both!!! I hope you both have recovered from your fall. Love Michael’s sandwich wrap idea especially the addition of potato chips! I think I will try that out 👍. Gotta use what you have 😊. Well done you two!
Sandwich wrap would definitely be a highlight for me. Nice ride. Tough rain days. Did you know ahead that rain was coming on the last days before leaving? Tough to plan around.
We did have an idea we would get some rain, but I think I’ve learned to just always plan for rain and bring all my rain gear and if none comes I’ll just be pleasantly surprised 😂
Great video.. I am planning to ride from Toronto to MTL as well in June 2025. How did you manage to come back with your bike. Via rail only allows folding bikes. Buses do not allow bikes to be checked in. ??
@@GurpreetBhela I know, so frustrating via rail doesn’t take bikes anymore. We actually ended up renting a car. Not a cheap option unfortunately but the only one we could find at the time. I hope you find a solution that works and have a great ride!
Great question Barbara! We bit off a little more than we could chew in terms of distance per day and weren't able to stop too much. We had lunch in some really nice spots but I think if I were to do it again I would reduce our kms so we could relax and see more :)
@@SheelaghDaly I agree on the mileage you prefer, I am putting a bike trip together for next year and I am looking at about 70 km per day! Great job on doing 100 km per day, that is a lot in my book.
An awesome adventure. How did you return home? I wanted to ride this trail from Casselman to Niagara but I couldn’t find a way to get back. Via Rail didn’t have any coaches for bikes. If I had the time I would have ridden back to Casselman.
Yes we encountered the same challenge with Viarail! We ended up renting a car to drive back. It was a pricey option but we did the trip quite cheaply otherwise so decided it was worth it :) I hope you're able to do the trail some time!
Thank you so much! The wrist is doing great! The knee is improving as well -- I think I still need to make some tweaks to the geometry of my bike but it's almost there!
Just started watching your videos -- great bike touring stuff !! A quick question about your Toronto/Montreal trip -- what are the options for getting back to Toronto after completing the ride, and also, does the "lake front trail" have a formal map or web site detailing the route ? I might like to ride that some day. Best wishes from South Carolina !!
Great questions! Yes there is a waterfront trail route: waterfronttrail.org/map/ Typically you could take the Viarail train back to Toronto but currently their COVID regulations won't let you bring bikes (even boxed!) on the train. So we rented a car. Don't hesitate to ask if you have any other questions!
Your boyfriend packs like a bikepacker. Convenience for 500 km is not convenient. Pack like a true bike tourist. Panniers, lowriders, front bag. Like your issue, things happen. Heavy rain, as you stated, is a safety issue. Also, take your cargo, keep it low (panniers, lowriders). Would be nice to have our route publishes and announced here.
This was actually his first tour ever! He had a single speed with no mounting points so we made it work by having me carry more of the gear and him carrying what he could in bags that worked :) I don’t have a GPX track but this was almost entirely following the Waterfront Trail (an established trail) from Toronto to Montreal.

Aww thanks for the lovely message! It's such a lovely route, we've thought about doing it again :)

Thank you so much! We are both fully recovered 🙏 Ahaha he is very creative! We love us some wrap combinations😜
Nice video, what an adventure.
Thanks very much!

Perfect.
So nice to see a healthy and radiant face with no need for makeup. Go safe and thanks.
Awesome
Sounds like you had a great time despite the weather. Sorry to hear about your wrist. Injuries always suck! Hope you are recovering well.
Thank you so much Steven!
Congratulations!!! Hope various body parts heal quickly!
Haha thank you Kim!!
Glad you made it! And hope your wrist is OK :)
Thanks Hilary! It is thankfully doing great 🙏😀

A wonderful adventure. I fell off my bike and injured my hip which has been trouble for the last six months. An accident is no joke.
Great ride, did you stop a bunch along the way to enjoy the sites?? Thanks for sharing

@@SheelaghDaly what did you avg per day for mileage??
@@vanomadcyclist3474 We did about 100km per day. I know a lot of people can do that comfortably but I've discovered I'm more of a 70/80km rider :)

Great videos! How do you manage when you need a washroom on the long cycling trip?
Sometimes we stop into chain restaurants like McDonalds... otherwise it's the bushes ;)
