Wow, just wow. What a great set! How is Lyle Workman not more well known? The guy is a fantastic player and he sounds like nobody else. For that matter, how is Frank Black not universally recognized as being the best singer/songwriter of an entire generation? Of course that's subjective but he's easily my favorite.
J Carl Johnson - Lyle is a genius. I remember finding his email address not long after he left the Catholics. I sent him a message and he was nice enough to reply and chat a bit about his work. As a guitarist myself (not saying I'm a good one by any means), Lyle's solo and melodic runs are works of art. He certainly doesn't get the credit he deserves.
I wish Eric Drew Feldman would have still been a part of their lineup at this point. His keyboard embellishments on those first two records are part of what made those albums so unique, along with Frank Black's genius songwriting and compositional strength obviously.

I'd like to think that the crowd is so bewildered by this awesome, outlandish sounding music that they become entranced, unable to move, as they welcome this alien space-ship to planet Earth.
For someone who grew up with the Pixies and Frank Blacks solo work I am blown away but not surprised how much of an impact the music has been to all the newcomers later on when the internet became a powerful medium to explore all kinds of things. Cheers to all the people here that like and think Charles Thompson’s solo work was better than the Pixies . I am a fan of both but am love them differently. Kim Deals raspy voice combined with Frank’s to create those wonderful harmonies combined with Joey Santiago’s screaming tweaking backed by David Lovering’s drumming is something Frank Black will never be able to create by HIMSELF . What the Pixies gave us musically starved kids looking for something worth listening to and the rest is history . Don’t disrespect
this was so awesome. thank you so much for this. God the 90's were the greatest time for alternative music. I was at the perfect age, my 20's. Frank Black was a major sorce of joy for me back then. What a great band, for those that just love Tele hard rock. Love it!!!!
Thanks for posting this. Multiple eargasms. My all-time favourite artist by far. Saw them live in this era. Need to track him down again while I can...
phenomenal range he has ....still Rocking deep in 2022 . U got to find the concert they gave in Koln ( Germany ) in July 2022 - recorded by Pros of Rockpalast . Phenomenal set list - the best in 30 years . Frank is enjoying himself .
I was lucky enough to see this exact lineup and pretty similar setlist around this time. Was a great show. Honestly the Catholics live were almost better than the Pixies. Don't get me wrong, I love the Pixies too, but as a live band, The Catholics always brought their A-game.
That punkish opening with back to back "Whatever Happened to Pong/Thallasocracy" is exactly how Frank's second solo album "Teenager Of The Year" starts out.
Very nice. Thanks for posting. I liked the scenic shots and the huge jug of tub brew being passed around by the dudes in the crowd about three quarters into the show. Straight ahead rock'n'roll. Damn Charles can scream! Good to hear Cult of Ray stuff again, too.
+weaselsuit i think ALL of his solo records beat the shit out of anything the pixies ever did. dog in the sand may be the best thing hes done but its all so good its hard to say.

This performance is totally golden. Guitar heaven
I've had an eye out for Lyle's work since I first heard Teenager, but he took a different route. He did a lot of film music for Judd Apatow comedies.
Man I couldn't agree more!!!
Lyle's lead work on the "Frank Black & The Catholics" album is up there with the greats
J Carl Johnson Frank and Curt Kirkwood in my humble estimation!
Telecaster through a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier is not something you hear every day. Lyle Workman sounds absolutely awesome in this show.

Some of the songs in this set are better than the studio versions.
Hats off to Lyle, amazing guitar work. 👍
What an amazing gig. Frank Black indeed is one of the best rock musicians ever.
I wish Eric Drew Feldman would have still been a part of their lineup at this point. His keyboard embellishments on those first two records are part of what made those albums so unique, along with Frank Black's genius songwriting and compositional strength obviously.
Dude the keyboards took Frank's genius to an entirely new level.
people just didn't realize the genius in front of them...
No they just German lol 👍🏼
Ppl were different back then.
In a way more inhibited, in other ways more real *)
Dude at @30:26 getting caught singing then smiling is the most wholesome thing I've seen on the internet all week.
LYLE WORKMAN RULES FANTASTIC!!!! THE GUITAR
I shook his hand…After they played “The Marsist”….👌

Beautiful. ❤

Frank Black has never given a fuck about what anyone thinks. 34 year career of zero fucks given. God bless him
Indeed. God bless that man.
He is more beautiful than even he knows. ❤
seen him a few times and blew me away every time. Genius!

Wow lyle workman is crazy good!
Way....ahead of his time. So overlooked.
Imo he's actually outside of time completely *)
How he rules... Love this guy.
Holy freak. The lead guitarist is on FIRE. All over that fret board. Not to mention frank, in the element.
Yeahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!! Thanks for posting this!!!
much charisma! such rockstar!!
Girl clapping unsurely at 28:45 during Jesus Was Right is arguably the best part of the show.

Frank Black is a master in his genre, and Teenager is his masterpiece

O.M.G. fb & los Catholicos- Reunion2022!!!
18:11 best scream in Rock and Roll hands down!
@24:31 Frank skipped a line, confusing the band…
Throw rocks at me if you must, but his first two solo records were better than anything the Pixies ever did.
Couldn't agree more. In fact the only pixies record I like as much as franks golden age solo stuff is bossanova
+weaselsuit i think ALL of his solo records beat the shit out of anything the pixies ever did. dog in the sand may be the best thing hes done but its all so good its hard to say.
i love the pixies but franks solo work is way better imo. black letter days is one of my top 5 records of all time
i agree fully. almost never listen to pixies but fb and the catholics over and over and over and makes me laugh with its artistic brilliance!
cool, but.....its not a competion man! ;)
Good Guys 🤘

This is what Kurt would've done hadn't he been suicid3d ..
Nah. He was too depressive for this level of enthusiasm.
