I have used this plenty. My buddy left it over and I became attached to it. When he wanted it back I was kinda depressed about giving it back. I have a 6505 half stack with a nice pedal board so I know what a good amp sounds like. This thing is cheap and can do it all. Perfect for portability and convenience when you want to leave your big expensive stuff at home. Infact you could use this with a small amp and mic it up for a great sound at a gig. The key thing to remember is too much gain is a problem when playing with other musicians. Especially drums and if your amp is small. So practice dialing in your sounds with less gain and less treble and plenty of mids. This approach will get way more out of a small amp and help you hear your amp with the band. Always remember not to invest your ego in expensive gear. Cheap gear including guitars and amps can sound great when dialed in properly, and expensive gear can sound like crap if not setup right.
To be very honest, these multi effects pedals always were pretty good in combination with a good combo. The only problem always is that you get overwhelmed by all the options, buttons and possibilities, which results in not having any real inspiration because you just keep fiddling around.
Forget the drums on it; but this pedal, when used with a perfectly set-up guitar and the strings that you love and an decent quality amp, will produce more than what it is criticized for. I used many effects and managed to feel the sweet spot for them all. There is no reason why this unit couldn't be used properly too. Learn it to death and the magic will come. It is simple enough to master after a short while. Main suggestion: Play a lot with it! Or, just try it a bit and trash it with critics and yes, you wasted the little bit of money spend on this. I recorded songs and tracks for people using 'cheap ass units/effects' among the others; and none of those people came back to me to complain about it. I never heard that what I have produced was 'cheap' sounding. So, I believe that anyone who gets this can make it "sing". And I wouldn't discourage any beginners to feel like they are buying a crappy unit when they have there, laid simply, a lot to venture into and a lot to help them create the sound that will please their ears with their compositions. Or even, come to some that feel close to a sound they like for playing a cover. 59! Hell, you get a lot for this price! Enjoy!
Not bad for the price. I'm like Rob I have a soft spot for digitech. I had a RP55 YEARS ago that did me well.... Apart from the buttons breaking (pushed in). It also really helped me in my early years of playing with tuning and finding a sound I liked with my dads old Peavey Bandit 112 solo series.
My first pedal was a Zoom 505, which I then upgraded with a Zoom8080. I think these kind of devices are really helpful for young guitarists to learn with, without needing to get too deep.
Just wanted to say thanks for this video. Started playing guitar a few months ago and I have been looking at pedals. Had been kinda put off on the prices of pedals because not sure what I want. This however seems perfect. It's not expensive and will let me play around with different pedals without shelling out the cash.
Got one a few months ago for my Orange Crush 12. Great pair to just play around with some tones and effects. Definitely helps to have the manual handy to reference rather than scrolling around blind.
BEST!! you guys make some of the best presentations and product demos... and entertaining to. again this one saved others that didn't succeed to do good review. but you nailed it! greetings from Portugal
This pedal was my first big step up a year or so ago. Now I've got my $800 guitar with EMGs, and a 100 watt Blackstar head that is much better. That pedal got me some damn good cleans, though.
Well done gentlemen. I am a harmonica player, and I love this little box. The sounds I can get wailing into a dynamic mic plugged into this little box are fantastic. And pipe some backing tracks through the AUX port, and turn on the drums, and I can have a blast. Running it out to my JamMan or RC-30 looper pedal, and I am good to go. I enjoy the visual pedal layout on the display panel. Gives us amateur pedal board nubes a visual reference similar to a real pedal board layout. Better I think that just knobs with numbers that you get with most multi effects controllers. Thanks again guys. Appreciate you sharing your time and knowledge with us. Stay safe.
Idea for a video: Which brand has the best 'all round pedal board' You take a board of the essential pedal types (i.e. drive/distortion, delay, chorus, fuzz, flange, etc.) from one brand and compare how that set of 5/6 pedals sound with another. For example, will a board full of MXR pedals sound better than a board full of TC Electronic pedals? Find who has the best sounding board, best value for money board, most functional board and the most diverse sounding board.
The x series, from digitech, was the first to offer 2 outputs, one with cabinet simulator! They are visionaires!!! Became a fanboy when i bought the weapon by dan doneghan!
Is the wah pedal any good and is it at all durable cause ive been told that the sides are metal but top is like a cheap plastic the reason i ask is because i want to get one but i will say im not one to be gentle with my equipment
I bought one of these to mess about/use with my home studio. I was pleasantly surprised by the price. The inbuilt drums also served as a stand-in for my drummer. It'll be a keeper for sure especially when combined with my EHX 720 looper. Most of the sounds are really usable, though I accept the distortion isn't as good as a true tube OD - but then what is?
I have an Element, no expression pedal, and I gotta say that for the current price, it's pretty decent. However, the cab sim is not something to die for. Works if you have no amp, but nothing stellar. You can turn on the cab sim even for the main output if you keep the Tone button pressed when starting the unit. The Blackface amp model takes high gain pedals well. I've put a Behringer UM-300 in front of it and it was decent.
Honestly, I'm 40 and can't really claim to be a beginner anymore, but I am just really starting with pedals. I have a looper and a tuner and not much else in the way of pedals. This thing would be an extremely fun little toy, no matter your experience level, in my opinion.
I am in the same situation as yourself so took the plunge for the price - just the drums filling in alone when our drummer couldn't make it to a rehearsal was worth the money. It's a great little toy and actually works really well in a home studio environment. I'd say I've had so much fun with it that I'd have paid double happily.
Digital multi-effects boards are the window to boutiques, baby! I'm so grateful to my (relatively) cheap pedalboard I bought over a decade ago for giving me a crash course in the possibilities of effects and amp emulation. I cannot express clearly enough how much of a clueless numpty I was (and possibly still am) back when I started. They're a great place to start!
Had a GNX3 several years ago. Pre-installed patches were horrible (all high gain) but if you spent the time to dig into the programming mode you could get some really decent tones. In addition you could download a vast number of user created models and patches from the website. It was built like a tank too. One useful little trick was the fact that you could save all your presets to your computer, swap the firmware and you'd have the bass version (BNX3).
It doesn't sound good but it serves a purpose. These types of inexpensive multieffect units are perfect for new guitar players who are trying to figure out what effects they would actually use and need without buying expensive pedals. Some effects you might enjoy goofing around with but never actually use, this will scratch that itch without costing you money. Buy one of these, experiment and when you decide what effects you like, upgrade to a suitable version. Once you've accumulated a few of your favorite effects, use this as a tuner or as your practice pedal board or even better pass it along to a another new guitarist you know.
I find that little units like this and the zooms are really good for weird guitar tones. I never liked these for getting bluesy/rock sounds but there will always be some nasty digital drive and a really odd kinda modulation effect to destroy the tone in a nice kinda way. That being said the chorus sounded pretty nice and the old zoom one (that I do still have) does a good job of the whammy thing.
I use computer software at times, but I really like digitech, there pedals to me have the best sound for just about any situation. Hopefully they will bring these relics back.
Me and a lot of guitarists from my generation had DigiTech RP multi-effects pedals. They were wretched, but sadly mine was still better than the Squier amp I had to play with. Now I'm all grown up and have an Axe-FX and am super happy with my tone.
I own an Element (without the expression pedal) and still using it as backup, in case I have issues with my tube amp and analog pedals. In its price range it's the best multifx I've heard so far. I come from the era (late '90-early 2000) when people used to buy shitty Zoom 505 or low-spec Boss and at that time I bought a Digitech RP80, because I felt it was superior in several aspects. In the following years I owned a Zoom G2 and G9 for few years (I was playing in a cover band and I needed more versatility and a lot of modulations), but still I felt they weren't good enough like these Digitech.
I have a similar cheap Digitech multifx with drum patterns, it is not easy when you want to edit your sounds but it gives a wide range of different sounds for very little money.
I have one of these, preset 6, 32, 53, 55, 77, 83 and 94 are crunchy metal tones that sound good with CRY applied and eq adjusted to taste. Though preset 83 is kinda unpredictable and hard to control lol
Yeah I had one from the early 2000's when I was a beginner. It's super fun as a beginner. I cringe at their tone now though, being more experienced. Their tones gotten better but still. Though for the price as well as ease of use, best & fun for beginners.
Why is it when I hear a chorus effect, I start thinking of 'The Police'. They were a bit before my time but what a great band and Andy Summers? was an awesome guitarist
Looks like my SG. Mine's a 2016 Special HP. No complaints, but Rob plays it a helluva lot better than I do! I also have an RP 360. Pretty great for the money.
I have a lot of build in effects in my amp, since it's a katana, but at 59 pounds this is also pretty affordable as a wah, expression and volume pedal. Is it worth it?
So, I’ve got an older RP70 and I think they’re missing a HUGE part of these pedals. It’s a baby Kemper!!! I’ve had plenty of sound guys who don’t want an amp on stage, and these guys have a setting where they’ll cab sim and plug straight into a mixing board and sound top-notch. The amp sims also take pedals really really well, so you can put it behind your other pedals (provided you have an isolated power supply) and sound great straight into a mixing board. Digitech has made an AWESOME little machine, and this one fixed the crappy buttons they put on the old models, so it’s flawless now.
How do I wire it properly? Manual says front input only, but I want to use it on the fx loop so I can use the Drive channel on the amp. Problem is it sounds too quiet and also is very noisy, hissy... Any advice?
I just traded one of this for an MXR fullbore metal... toyed around with it all weekend and I still don't know how to setup a pitch shifter, there are patches in it, but I need it close to what I use for clean and lead... how do I do that??
Which small affordable Multi Fx pedal is the best and easiest to use? Digitech, Jaya, or Boss GT 1. I mainly only need Chorus Delay, and flange and phase and really I mainly want chorus and delay and Maybe overdrive in one pedal maybe phase or flange also.
What always amazes me is that just a few minutes online you already had 3 dislikes (59 likes). You guys may already have given up trying to understand this but it's really puzzling to me what is here not to like??? Is it the product or the professional presentation or that it talkes about being a good deal? Be it as it may - I wish one day, one of those (notoric?) "Dislikers" would surface and tell what it exactly is what he/she dislikes... (maybe as an answer to this post? ;) Btw 60 likes now.
Volker Linzer Dude it's the internet. Don't try to understand it. I can guarantee it'll be something trivial. Maybe one of them once said something less than complimentary about somebody's favourite guitar brand, or amp, or pedal, and now they're all butt hurt because they have a mental age of 7. Such is the way of the brave keyboard warrior.
October 2, 2018: Can I adjust each effect, such as having a fast and tight Delay, which is hardly heard, and then a very low volume on Reverb, and then Compression. I have heard this will give my Telecaster great TWANG
My first pedal was the degitech rp55 it was cheap as hell and sounded like ass but it was still worth getting to get a bassline on what cheap will give you. I still use the drum mechine from time to time probably the most useful feature. I have also owned the boss me 25. Multieffects are good to grab cheap at the start of your guitar playing adventure to give you a taste of all the available effects sounds at a budget price.
Thanks both for the nice review. Searching your other reviews, I found that you have also reviewed Zoom G3Xn, Mooer GE100, and Mooer GE200. I have a Blackstar ID core 20W amp and use only the clean channel. All sounds come from my current Zoom G1Xon, which is working fine, but just considering a change. My questions is: just from a pure sound quality perspective which of the four pedals you found better and why, (eg, clean, bright, transparent, longer sustain, etc sounds)? Looper and drums are not important as I have a separate pedal for that and so is the ability to connect to a DAW (as my Blackstar amp allows that). I am also considering Boss GT-1, Digitech RP360XP, and NUX MG20 - in case you have tested these, please comment. Look forward to your reply, thanks!
Well i guess it's personal choise. I have tried lots of Harley Bentons and have not been satisfied with any of them, but i also want the feel of the Gibson SG.
Dagur Runolfsson I have the SG too, and I'm super happy with it! I think it's the only Gibson guitar I haven't had to do any adjustments too at all. It was pretty much perfect from the factory.
Could someone make a video and show exactly how to model a preset(s) for playing Mark Knopfler 's songs (like "You and your friend"etc..). This would be a great help for amateurs (like me) trying to make use of this device. Thanks!
I keep one in my gear bag. It's great for a backup if everything else goes down. It's also good for guest/opener spots when you want to set up quickly and tear down quickly. In those situations, I put it after my other pedals and just use the amp simulator. It makes the sound guys happy.
£59 isn't bad for something like this, but I feel like the NUX MG-100 is better value, especially as it includes a looper. I'm not sure Andertons stock NUX gear, though. But maybe they should :)
I haven't had that experience with my NUX pedals personally (and I own several), but it's always worth buying from a shop where you can return the item if necessary. :)
Zoom all the way, they make the best Multi effects pedals in my opinion.. My G1xn is still on my board which i have pedals that coast 500 bucks on it and i still use that Zoom at gigs..
The Zoom G1XN is getting a bit hard to find these days. The G1Xon might be similar but to me it just looks cheap. I own a Zoom MS-50G which has been fantastic, especially for the number of effects it emulates, but it's still missing a bunch of features provided by the NUX MG-100 (eg. looper, expression pedal, headphone jack). The NUX is also much quicker and easier to program.
I've checked the manual and it does not - although it does have a variety of delays (including tempos) to choose from. There is analogue, ping-pong, digital etc so quite a variety. You can however set the delay length in the editor.
nope... looks more like a PT 20 combo ... www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PTMiniCd1--friedman-pink-taco-mini-combo-20-watt-1x10-inch-tube-amp?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzJ2PhJCe2gIVi7XACh2eIQLWEAQYASABEgK8kvD_BwE
Lee -- did it take hours to read/understand the manual? My first ebay purchase was for a RP350. The user interface for it is brutal (vs., say, Boss ME30 - knobs!). In contrast, I have a simple to use Whammy xp100 -- sounds great, and easy to use!
Okay, can we all agree Rob's opening jam was sick
yes (I like SG Rob probably the most)
I'm more into Lee's solid drumming.
i like it when plays with more chunky sound, he usually uses a tone that isnt my preference but that fat sg sound is pure thrill
No
Looks good for a beginner wanting to get into the world of effects, without having to spend lots of money on different pedals
Nailed it.

Idea for a video:
Which brand has the best 'all round pedal board'
You take a board of the essential pedal types (i.e. drive/distortion, delay, chorus, fuzz, flange, etc.) from one brand and compare how that set of 5/6 pedals sound with another. For example, will a board full of MXR pedals sound better than a board full of TC Electronic pedals?
Find who has the best sounding board, best value for money board, most functional board and the most diverse sounding board.
This would be awesom
Good idea
I love this idea.
VKMcMeister EHX would win all day
THATS SIMPLE TO ANSWER ,,, THE RP 360 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I still have my RP500, can get some really great tones from it.
I have one of these and it sounds good. Ive used it on small gigs when i can't be bothered to take my pedalboard. Nothing wrong with it.
The x series, from digitech, was the first to offer 2 outputs, one with cabinet simulator!
They are visionaires!!!
Became a fanboy when i bought the weapon by dan doneghan!
How I wish it had a looper! It's got some "decent" tones, I use it strictly with headphones and it does the job quite nicely.
Peace!
I have an older model of that digitech RP-90 and it has been lots of fun and awesome for beginners with low budget.
Proud owner of an element xp here 🔥🔥🔥🎸🎸🎸

Gary Shaw Thank you sir! I need to get my hands on one and put it through it's paces. Home studio is really what I do, more than anything else.
Good value indeed, perfect little starter pedal. They should always put drums on multi effect units

Just ordered one from Andertons, this is ideal for me as a beginner guitarist with no pedals at all.
This is a great option for guitarists starting off. I wish I'd had something like this. £59!

Worth it simply for the "Bremolo"
I am pretty sure that was meant to indicate harmonic tremolo, as in a brownface Fender.

(maybe as an answer to this post? ;)
Btw 60 likes now.
Humans are a strange lot
Perspective.
people just wanna say theyre the first 2nd or 3rd to dislike a video cuz it means theyve seen it before everyone
Just start using this.
Multieffects are good to grab cheap at the start of your guitar playing adventure to give you a taste of all the available effects sounds at a budget price.
great playing rob. j.
At first I thought it comes with pitch bender...., or does it?
What a lovely sounding device. Cannot wait to buy all 150 pieces ! XD
That was actually refreshing. If an SG can make Rob play like that, he should always play SGs from now onwards.
HOLY @#$% THAT CHORD AT 4:50 MADE ME WANT ONE OF THOSE THINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like so much,no noise and very clear tone but look not so smart but good..
for someone accused (in the past) of not playing SG`s, oh man but that little country boy can play!
Sounds exactly like the RP90 from a decade ago.
This things better than a Kemper. Everyone should buy one now.
Lemme tell you I have this one and you won't believe it sound like a 1000 pound piece of equipment!
This guy will make anything sound good . It's the player
I really enjoyed the mug graphics!
Giovanni Cerva of course, hahaha hahaha hahaha hahaha hahaha hahaha hahaha hahaha
captain is the best drumer
Digitech rp 360 with whammy SIMPLY ROCKS !!!!!
I have that same SG, it is absolutely amazing
it's really not, i own it and i own the Harley benton sg that was 2 times cheaper at 175 bucks and it's so much better..
How to reduce the buzzz noise..
Can you connect other pedals to it?
Very nice playing from Rob this time
Could someone make a video and show exactly how to model a preset(s) for playing Mark Knopfler 's songs (like "You and your friend"etc..).
The chappers tone is awesome
£59 isn't bad for something like this, but I feel like the NUX MG-100 is better value, especially as it includes a looper. I'm not sure Andertons stock NUX gear, though. But maybe they should :)
I read some reviews of NUX; good, but quite often not working on arrival.
You interested in a G1xon i have 3..
Still use my RP50 from time to time, even to record with. I've got "better" stuff, but it makes me all warm and scrumply.
That SG looks and sounds amazing
Might swap my helix 4 this
paramediccpo lol
Lol no
ok i'll give you £59 for your Helix, contact in MP ;)
Saxoprane to be fair it’s crap - should have got a kemper
oh crap, good to know :D
Opening jam 10/10
Есть ли в этом процессоре looper?
Anyone know if this pedal has a Tap Tempo function for the delays??
I've checked the manual and it does not - although it does have a variety of delays (including tempos) to choose from. There is analogue, ping-pong, digital etc so quite a variety. You can however set the delay length in the editor.
What tuning does he use for this video?
What is that little Freidman combo amp hiding behind Rob? New?
Runt 20 or 50 combo maybe?
nope... looks more like a PT 20 combo ... www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PTMiniCd1--friedman-pink-taco-mini-combo-20-watt-1x10-inch-tube-amp?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzJ2PhJCe2gIVi7XACh2eIQLWEAQYASABEgK8kvD_BwE
Lee -- did it take hours to read/understand the manual? My first ebay purchase was for a RP350. The user interface for it is brutal (vs., say, Boss ME30 - knobs!). In contrast, I have a simple to use Whammy xp100 -- sounds great, and easy to use!
I never read manuals. I am a man!!!
I'd get it for nothing else than it's a whammy for half the price of a whammy by the same people who make the whammy, like why not? xD
You didn't show us the whammy :((((
Prehistoricman that's for redtube , but seriously I concur
Can I add a loop pedal after the DigiTech element xp pedal to loop everything?
I'm used to these sounding really terrible, but this wasn't too bad!
Please any body give suggestion to reduce noise when i use processor.
Try decreasing the master volume.
I had an RP1 and in that day I was Really Cool Man
