Tenchi Universe is actually more top tier than the 3 OVAs, at least in my opinion, and heck Tenchi in Tokyo is a underappreciated masterpiece. Before i forget, you should REALLY look up El-Hazard, you're gonna love it!
I will be doing Tenchi in Tokyo eventually, if only because it's the last really major Tenchi series that I've yet to cover on the channel. I've heard decent things about El-Hazard, but I've never sat down to watch it. I do enjoy Tenchi Universe, but if I had to compare ALL the Tenchi I've watched thus far? War on Geminar is probably the best out of the bunch for me. ~ Pokeprof
@@CritiquingMindsEl-Hazard was made by the same team that did the Tenchi OVAs, Universe and in Tokyo, and i think it's safe to assume that both take place in the same universe and heck there was a planned crossover but it got canceled due to AIC ending El-Hazard. And after you review Tenchi in Tokyo, i suggest you give the first El-Hazard OVA a go.
What I loved about Tenchi Universe was it introduced Konei. I personally find her cute and she was the perfect foil to Mihosi. Whereas Mihosi is a bubble-head and lazy Konei is a workaholic and a worrier. Konei would like to ditch Mihosi, but at the same time they probably need each other. Watching the series it's shown that Mihosi is loyal to Konei to the point where she'd take a bullet for her. They just compliment each other in being opposites.
The whole 'Opposites work best together' idea is strong with these two, though I still stand by Mihoshi being the worst here more than anything else. It's definitely a case of me not meshing well with the character, though. ~ Pokeprof
Probably will eventually! As it stands, I'm going to be doing War on Geminar first, considering that's the one people keep on saying I've forgotten about in the original Tenchi Video, which is my biggest video by far. ~ Pokeprof
Never seen it! Though you're like the fourth person or so to bring it up, so I'm guessing people are really interested to see my thoughts on it! The question is, should I watch GXP first? From what I've read up on it, Geminar is a Sequel to that. ~ Pokeprof
The OVA in general is a LOT weirder and wilder in comparison to Universe. I like Universe a bit more because it is, for lack of a better word, Down to earth. ~ Pokeprof
I wouldn't say that, if only because Star Wars occasionally has more plot driving it and a lot less harems. But there are similarities here and there! ~ Pokeprof
@@CritiquingMinds You're kidding, right? The thing that Lucas lacks and has always lacked, is character development. He's just not capable of it. Empire Strikes Back was directed by an Italian director, DUE to this.
I meant more in the state of Universe here. For all the things I dislike about Star Wars (I'm not a fan of it at all, thus why I've not covered it at all on the channel) I can't deny that they pushed forward a story. As much as I enjoyed Tenchi, with this one being one of my old favorites, we don't really get any story progression till super late in the series. It's mostly just 'Here's the harem, here's goofy highjinx'. Very little matters in a large part of the series by the end, where as I can't say the same for most of Star Wars, especially if we're talking about the original 3 movies. ~ Pokeprof

@@CritiquingMinds we don't talk about tenchi Muyo War in geminar
@@CritiquingMinds geminar is not a sequel
GXP is based On Seina
Geminar is based on tenchi brother Kenchi
I love Tenchi Universe. I was devastated when I found out Tenchi in Tokyo was nothing like it.
I enjoyed rewatching the series, I'll admit it! Outside of... well... my complaints I had of Mihoshi! ~ Pokeprof
The OVA probably got confusing after 3

Tenchi Universe is basically Star Wars, but Japanese
