There's no replacement for displacement... or is there?
No, that rule still applies, this is intelligent use of what the Alfa has to offer, which is nimbleness. I bet this would've been great fun to watch from start to finish.
Video was too short you will make money if the video was 10mins long and I would enjoy watching more racing or a job? Wanna hire me?
@@chemxfan so....there is replacement for displacement, and it's nimbleness and intelligent driving.
How about some electrons?
I love the Alfa and cheered when it overtook...
@@georgantonischki1188 and what about with those high beams on?!
One of the best looking small coupé ever
A thousand times more entertaining than F1.
No it is not
@@fidemclam Yes, yes it is. This is when racing was actually racing. Completely different methodologies to the choice in cars and the manner as how to set them up. Huge tanks with big block V8s vs petite nimble European cars with small displacement engines yet they seem to be so equally matched. The American V8s dominate on acceleration and the Europeans can real it back in through the turns and braking. F1 is boring as hell compared to this.
@@chefdan87 well...that is your opinion
@@fidemclam Do you agree that your opinion that F1 is better doesn't necessarily mean you are right?
@@fidemclam watching classic cars battle it out like this is more exciting than watching lewis and valterri get p1 and p2 constantly
I love seeing those Fords being really put to it. You expect it from a small Alfa, not so much from the land yachts.
Galaxie is rather a trade vessel than a yacht 😉
More of a cargo ship. A really fast cargo ship
amazing how much body roll the Fords don't have
no suprise to me, the ford galaxy has a strong racing history. They were used for nascar and did really well. won in 1964
@@VcrThunder . The truly frightening Ford in NASCAR was the Torino Talladega...
It just amazes me that these guys are out there actually racing these things and not just driving around the course.
An inch off a galaxy's bumper in a shoebox while it takes a corner almost sideways certainly looked like racing.
Race cars are meant to be raced, not putting around in.
I love how they powerslide and drift through the turns, that overtake towards the end was amazing, he just dumped that GTA into the turn and powered out, amazing! His size let him through that gap.
No 'out-braking' that I noticed. He didn't seem to even consider using the brakes, from what I could see!
@@alanmumford8806 Looks like he touched them at the end to keep himself in front of the Galaxie......and from shooting off the track. That was some splendid driving.
"Nearly hits the tail of the Star Ship Enterprise there" "Headlights reflecting of the rear bumper, acres of rear bumper" made me laugh. I love how you don't steer a Galaxie, you look where you want to go and smash that gas pedal and back your *ss into it.
Yes lol. Have you seen the Thunderbird video?
The Alfa Romeo GTA a masterpiece.
2:11 I like how this dude is just staring at the camera with a pink scarf, sunglasses and a beret. 🤣🤣🤣
If you can stare down the barrel of a camera with a pink scarf and a beret, then you have become a man my son.
There could have been a row of dancing gorillas on the side of the track and I wouldn't notice them. I was totally focused on those Galaxies. I used to own one like that.
@@RBCharger One beret?
Aha....yeah...you got hawkeye...Ruslan
@@oganwaluyo12 how did you know? I have him locked up in the basement until the next avengers movie...
Everyone else: Let's take off our bumpers to save weight
Galaxie: Hold my beer
As an american and a ford fan, nothing fills me with more joy than seeing a massive Ford Galaxie battling it out with a little alfa and nearly winning. I love Bill Shepherds 58 Ford Thunderbird
They fought with honor against a legend
Power vs handling is always a interesting battle.
Alfa Romeo is a legend.
Did you notice that the Lotus Cortina was being driven by Mr Bean?
there was no story.big power but no handling.
Am I the only one who is amazed by how well those Galaxies move around the track?
No not at all
Alfa Romeo GTA is a pretty car.
More than a pretty car, it is a legend
Agree but the Galaxie is a lot cooler in my opinion
It's just badass 🤘
like when you have an overweight friend who manages to do something and you compliments him
Love that Alfa!
A friend of mine's brother had one (red too) when I was in high school (class of '68). I once was treated to a ride and was scared out of my wits as we bombed through streets and back roads of a small New Hampshire town. Luckily the police were on extended coffee break or something. Nonetheless, I loved Alfa sedans before, after, and still do. Classically sculpted, classical beauty.
Alfa Romeo have always consistently produced gorgeous cars, my favourite being the 33 Stradale of the ‘60s.
A legend
@@aviationlba747 Right; great that Gta carrying the 33 number on it. I think it's not accidental, but a quote
Oh yeah! Never noticed that.
Mr Bean, Jochen Mas, Jackie Oliver, Rupert Keegan...... Wow, that's a group of people you don't normally see.
3:18 I Like how the GTA is like "No! I am NOT getting sandwiched between two tanks! I pass NOW!"
Great Alfa Romeo!
There's something seriously mesmerising about these vintage cars going all out inches away from each other.
Did the announcer say "Rowen Atkinson" aka Mr. Bean was in the Cortina @ 2:58?
Yes, he’s raced for years, owns a McLaren F1 for which he made the world’s most expensive single car insurance claim after he damaged it in a spin and it had to be rebuilt.
I remember on top gear he was one of the faster celebrities on the show. He's been busy since mr bean
He's raced that Cortina for years.
That’s what I heard
I recall seeing mention of him racing in a Renault 5 class back in the 90's (or maybe even late 80's), so he's been at it for some time.
Go, you little beauty.
The Alfa ist a little beauty...the Ford is a big one! ;-)
See Bubba, The Galaxy CAN go Right and Left.
Yess After a little weight reduction..
Results of the race? Results!-- Goodwood Road and racing makes these wonderful little videos, but at the end of it, they never show the final results!-- all it would take, is one simple graphic four five seconds for 10 seconds, to show the final outcome of the race. They are so shabby about this. And, they never listen to the comments to improve their uploads!
This is one of the best examples of "It's the driver that matters, not the car"
In this case it is the car and the driver actually as Alfa is brilliant.
The 105 is an absolute legend... No other cars shape comes close... As old as it is!!!
And to think it's designer was 17 YEARS OLD!!!
BELLISIMA ❤❤❤
For sure. Nice the comparison with a fox terrier that I read in another post
Love those 63 1/2 Ford Galaxies!
look at that big galaxy move around those smaller cars.
Alfa Romeo.........CUORE SPORTIVO.........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Goodwood road and racing, you have managed to reignite my interest in motorsport. After years of watching my favourite saloon car races descend into over regulated, kevlar clad manufacturer backed processions and demolition derbies, only to be ring fenced by pay per view channels I found your channel. Real motor racing, driven well without contact or team orders. Thanks for reinvigorating my passion. ♥️🚗🚗🚗♥️
Alfisti for life!
Wow!! For sure
It's even more amazing that you take a huge Ford not made for a sports car track and the tiny cars generally cannot win. Try an Alfa on a big, open track.
Those '63 Fords have some of the most beautiful grille lines of the era.
I think the lead Ford's brakes were fading hence the Alfa pass.
The GTA putting so much pressure on him and cornering better, the Ford need to let him pass and take less risk at 2nd position.
Brake fade 😂 Nah, it's very clear he was going a hair too fast if you watch the rear end sway as he straightened it back out to slow down. Which that in itself is going to cost you a position or two depending how they stack behind you.
I regularly drive a BRZ, a Pantera, and a '68 Firebird. Despite the Firebird having a Hotchkiss suspension it still feels like I'm driving the Flintstone mobile compared to the other two. The skill the Galaxie drivers are showing powering those bricks through the corners deserves to be mentioned.
that Gta that chases (J.Mass, please) with high beams on ignites the passion. Go Frank Stippler!
British historical races are the best of the world
The big heavy yank tanks will run out of tyres and brakes .
Galaxies, you can put a kitchen and bedroom in them and they'll still do the bends dead flat.
Wow what an amazing pass and drift to clear and under braking turn with that much momentum?? That was impressive!!!!!
Considering I'm never gonna bother watching anything to do with NASCAR again this is great!!!
( And way more exciting🇺🇸🖐)
Goodwood seems to favor smaller cars. Even then, the Alfa did not have enough power to overtake the Galaxie without something else happening on the track (traffic). Well raced by everyone, though.
The weight of the Galaxie overheated his tires and brakes at the end. The GTA is one fast little car.
That was a great race.
I was brought up around 61-64 galaxies. Mainly 63 1/2 like you see here, granted they weren't 427 lightweights. I live for these clips, all the lads out there do a fantastic job....keep em comin.
Alfa power to weight ratio wickedly awesome, over the tank Ford's V8 weight, also driver has a lot to do with it also, as you need more then power, you need control, awesome video cheers KC Tasmania Australia 🇭🇲🇭🇲😎👍
All true but don't discount the skill and finesse needed to get a boat like that around corners so quickly. Both excellent drivers here.
hope you know that galaxy is probably only like 3300lbs.
Every straight for the galaxie, every corner for the alfa! Nice and clean fight.
All these cars are cool, but the Fords are nearest and dearest to my heart. GO FORD GO BLUE!
Go Blue: yes, but for me is related to that beautiful Giulia Super (laughing)
..and kids that's why american cars will always be behind the European ones.
Those Galaxies held their own. They still beat a ton of European cars. Also the break fade must have been terrible on a car that large that wasn't built to preform like that.
Miss old style racing like this. we need this in 2020/21 with modern cars!
That was very enjoyable to watch, great battle.
I grew up in a Galaxie house. We had a 63, a 64, a 66, and a 73/LTD. Nothing thrills me more than seeing a big boat like that thrashing through the turns.
Absolutely in love with those two Ford's
This is way too short.
REAL NASCAR "stock cars" at Goodwood, what a show!
probably the best 3 minutes spent on youtube .. magnificent cars, unbelievable drivers and one hell of a race !
I didn't blink
2:57 Rowan Atkinson?!
Rowan. Bloody. Atkinson.
Goodwood Road & Racing Mister. Frickin. BEAN
Gta. Beat touring car ever.
A legend
Alfa Romeo is born before Ferrari... Enzo Ferrari drove an Alfa Romeo... know it!!
0:27- starship enterprise 😂😂
GALAXIE! that's a great driver! Holding off a Alfa on a road course. Sick! Wheel base, suspension, stance? Alfa owns all those yet, GALAXIE did a hell of a job. In the same cars we know who would have won.
He wasnt gonna outrun that Galaxie so he had to outbrake him, good stuff
This is some of the best racing I've ever seen. Who knew two completely different philosophies of vehicles would be so equally matched. Had Pierce Eagan live to see this he would have called this racing the "sweet science".
I love galaxie 63.5 R- code like this 2 in the clip. So I have my on galaxie R-code whit the legendery 427 topoil engine
The Galaxy's are gorgeous. The Alfas...what is it people see in those shapeless little turds?
It doesn’t take a professional race driver to floor it on a straight
@@ilariomattina9156 it doesnt take a professional driver to turn a low hp light car into a corner either...
Henry Ford himself told he took his hat off when he saw an Alfa
You've got to have absolute strength in your hands and arms to wheel a 500 Galaxie
a boat with wheels*
Tom Kristensen and Jochen Mass got this.
Yes, infact they are a couple of champions
Those little cars can draft the hell out of those big bodies 😂
Ma quei bidoni americani dove credono di andare 😂😂
It’s crazy to see a boat looking like it’s going 20 miles an hour and a tiny Alfa looking like it’s literally going light speed right next to each other
This is how all categories should be.
And simply handicap the winner with weight or air restrictors.
This type of racing is what we fans all enjoy.
Not this modern road train robotic racing today..
Gorgeous little car, absolutely stunning
Nearly hit the back of the Starship Enterprise. Lmao
Put this alpha in oval track with the Galaxies and you will see the V8 smach the little spaghetti
Rowan Atkinson/ Blackadder behind the wheel of a ?
Lotus/ Ford Cortina
You meant Johnny English?
I thought American cars don’t handle well? Oops!
Would have been a great video if you could hear the cars and not people talking.
Those Galaxie battle ships are fantastic to watch. a brilliantly built car from Ford Motor Company. those giant heavy cars handle beuatifly. my father had 1964 Thunderbird and I can tell it handled like it was on rail. the two cars are built on the same platform.
I wonder dat alfa did not brake during the race. Its a miracle. When alfa works, its amazing car. But the reliability omg. Anyway very nice race-
No, please.
The road Alfas were race cars for the road, they only needed the right manutention and the right hands working on them
That overtake at the end was so satisfying omg
WOW!! that's racing!
Those galaxies are massive in comparison with the alfa, amazing!!
So what happened?!
Adding lightness can be better than adding horsepower !
So fun watching these vintage racers
alfa romeo, making pocket rockets since 1910
Man that frank stippler i think he said is a great driver. Patient
That was fun!
Splendid driving by everybody. Not a ding in the bunch. Even the dude who slid off track avoided the tire wall. :-)
QUESTA ERA ALFA ROMEO AI SUOI TEMPI MITICA
.
Alfa Romeo !!la leggenda continua!( The Legend go on!)
Quando l' ALFA ROMEO... non era... Fiat...!!!!!
Back in their day though you could actually take the kids to school in that Ford, and in the end of the day it was less likely to leave you on the side of the road than any Alfa. Really surprised it managed more than a lap or two!
7l v8 versus 1.6l 4 cylinder, and still lose 😂😂😂
@@lucasquattrucci4122 tin can vs full size family car.
Handling and lightness is definitely a replacement for displacement
nah. could have come out with a shelby cobra with the same engine and whooped the alfa.
What happened in the end???
Victory 🏁🏆👙💰🎉🚼💒
The Alfa should torn off the light: De Adamich used to race with lights out in order to have a half horse power more
alfa romeo legend!!
Grande Alfa... BMW soliti catorci
Some really good camera work there I have to say.
Holy crap that boat can move though.
TORQUE!
Beautiful
Now this is fun. Puts F1 and touring car racing to shame.
Carrying a lot of speed so it was an all-or-nothing move
love the drifting through those corners!
STARSHIP ENTERPRISE? "EXCESS WEIGHT CHAMPION?" Learn that at Oxford? Hilarious you bloody bastards! Great racing. Great commentary.
Yet another stage managed bit of racing from Goodwood. Suddenly the Alfa manages to find a surge of power, gets past the Ford and accelerates away. Just nonsense.
Power? Didn't you see the tight turns they went through? Light, great handling cars can enter tight turns a lot quicker and therefore exit with more speed, it's basic stuff.
I Luv it. 4 cyl vs 8 cyl. But that's not the best of it, 2,000cc vs 8,200cc; 1/2 the cyls only 1/4 the displacement. That's American ingenuity for ya.
