Atlanta just went from having one of the worst QB rooms in the NFL last year to one of the best QB rooms in the NFL this year. I think Kyle’s reaction was very telling. He was shocked but also exited because he knows Penix can throw dimes!

He’s played the last two seasons with no injury issues and balled out. He played Bo Nix 3 times in the last 2 seasons. All three times Oregon was the favorite to win. All three times Washington won and Penix threw for more yards and TDs then Nix. Who cares that Atlanta is paying Kirk Cousins. Penix will be on a rookie contract. They can afford both. All teams at some point end up having to play multiple QBs during the season. He doesn’t have to start year one. He gets to learn from a seasoned pro like Kirk and will be the full time starter by the end of his rookie contract.
@@jameslynch4042if your biggest knock against Penix is that he looked average against Michigan, well how did CJ Stroud(the reigning NFL offense rookie of the year) look against Michigan’s defense his last year in college? He threw two picks and his team lost by 20 so kinda average I guess. I think the outcome of the championship game had more to do with how good Michigan has been then how average Michael Penix was.

This pick itself is not bad, I understand that they probably wanted to lock down Kirk's successor, but there's just no way justifying taking a QB top 10 when you just dropped a bag on another one. Plus they needed a pass rusher like yesterday.

Justin Houston wasn't drafted but he doing pretty good in Detroit. There is good talent in the draft on both the offensive and defensive side some of them you never heard of.

Kirk literally never runs, his ACL won’t hinder his game. those types of QB’s can play well close to 40, he’s a pure pocket passer and hasn’t shown any decline in skill.

That’s encouraging. I mean really, Atlanta is 1 good QB away. Extra weapons are always nice(would have loved Brock), but a good QB is what separates a team.
I like Penix, but the Falcons didn't really need him, especially as a Top 10 pick. The Falcons needed weapons to win NOW, not have someone hold a clipboard unless Kirk breaks down. There are other QBs that could fill that backup role and you get Top 10 talent on defense.
You don't know football this is exactly what the falcon need. A young talent qb that will grow. Cousin is good but doesn't show in big games

If you have a guy rated as the #2 player in the draft and he drops to you at 8 and you don't expect to be up there again you take him. You know everyone is talking about how great this draft was for offensive players...and it is, but it wasn't a great draft for defensive players and I'm not convinced that in 3-5 years that any defensive player would have had a bigger impact then Penix will have for this team. And everyone talks about "he's good"...no, the dude is a winner and he's got all the talent in the world and he hasn't been hurt for the last 2 seasons.

Agreed. Rodgers had already played for the Packers for 16 years. Kirk hasn't even started a game yet in Atlanta. A better comparison is Rodgers with the Jets who will play his first full season there this year. The Jets did NOT draft a first round QB. They drafted a tackle.

As Belicheck said just a little while ago: "I think they could have traded back and still gotten Penix." Moreover, to me the opportunity cost (getting one of the top three edge rushers) here is HUGE. They get no advantage from a cheap-contract player, because he'll be on the bench. I think it was a brainless move.

I don't dislike this pick - without the injury concerns, Penix is a top 3 pick. Give him 2 years to rest up, then promote him to first team. Meanwhile, you get 2 good years for a top 10 QB in Cousins. Seems like a good plan. I remember people going crazy when the Packers made the same move with Aaron Rodgers. That turned out OK

When this pick was first announced, I was pissed. We desperately need a top tier pass rusher in a bad way. But Penix himself is a great pick, though. Also, look at the 2025 QB draft class. Raheem got his guy. We have the QB of the future that can sit for a couple years. We still need to address the pass rush situation. In my mind, that's our only and main need. Anything else is just bolstering other positions.

As a husky fan. I've seen every snap Penix has taken for the last 2 years. You guys got the best quarterback in the draft by far. He is outstanding. Go to RUclips and watch his 2023 highlights. He's amazing he's a total winner. Cousins is won won playoff game in 12 years. Yeah the guy puts up numbers but he's not a winner my cousins has played on some good teams.

Penix is a great pick. The only mistake Atlanta made is paying on old QB fresh off an injury 180M. Kirk isn’t worth that. Not saying Kirk isn’t a good fit, not saying we can’t win with him either, he’s just not worth that much money. Penix is exactly what fonenot said… the future.
